Chapter 37 - Controlled Damage

The first vibration came at 5:47 a.m.

Lucas Harrington's phone skittered across the nightstand like a trapped insect, the screen lighting up with notification after notification. He didn't move immediately. Beside him, in the penthouse's master suite, Elara slept undisturbed, her dark hair fanned across the pillow, utterly unaware that the world was already dissecting her.

By the twelfth vibration, Lucas swung his legs over the side of the bed, bare feet meeting cold marble. He grabbed the phone and walked into the living room, closing the bedroom door softly behind him. The sky over Manhattan was just beginning to lighten—that bruised purple before dawn—but the city never truly slept, and neither, apparently, did its appetite for destruction.

He unlocked the phone and scrolled.

Bloomberg: "Harrington Holdings Plunges in Pre-Market—Leadership in Question."

CNN: "Inside the Harrington Marriage: Love Story or Corporate Merger?"
