Chapter 8 - Wheel Of Fortune

Seeing that his son was shell-shocked by the news, his mother's expression worsened.

She pouted deeply; it was clear from her reaction exactly what she was feeling.

She's jealous... how adorable.

Realizing that the longer he stayed silent, the worse the situation would become, he quickly shifted his expression like a master manipulator, cupping his mother's face in his hands.

"Mother, you don't have to be jealous. Whoever that woman is, even if I have to marry her in the end, she will always be second place in my heart compared to you!"

Hearing those words of reassurance from her beloved son finally softened her expression and yet he was clearly not off the hook yet as she spoke in a begrudging tone.

"Hmph, you're only saying that now because you haven't seen her yet. Once you do, you'll forget all about your old mother!"

Her response shocked him, and his brain quickly went into overdrive.

My mother is already a beauty that can topple nations. In fact, I don't even know how my scoundrel of a father managed to bag both her and my real mother at the same time—but even she admits that this so-called fiancée of mine is beautiful. Maybe this engagement isn't so bad after all...

This time, he didn't make the mistake of staying quiet for too long. He gave his mother a soft smile before kissing her on the lips.

"Don't be ridiculous, Mother. You are the woman who took my first time. How could anyone compare to you?"

Finally reassured, she let the matter go and smiled in turn. "It seems my son has learned how to speak sweet nothings to women. Hopefully, you don't use them on anyone else!"

The veiled threat in her words made him shiver. He shook his head quickly. "Of course, Mother, you can count on me!"

Like hell I won't use it on anyone else! I've reincarnated in a different world; of course I need a harem!

He kept that thought to himself, quickly trying to shift her attention. "Mother, shouldn't you get out of bed now? Aren't you afraid of getting caught?"

The reminder made her jolt. She stood up quickly, using her cultivation base to clear the "naughty smell" from the previous night before changing her clothes.

Suddenly, she disappeared from the room without even saying goodbye. He gaped in shock; he hadn't expected her to escape his clutches so abruptly.

Damn, not even a goodbye?

Before he could complain, his mother reappeared. She approached him, pecked him on the lips, and disappeared again. This time, a soft voice rang through his head: "I'll see you later tonight at dinner, my love."

Seeing that she had returned to give him a proper goodbye made him smile, feeling very satisfied with the situation.

Seems like my woman still has some tact. Guess I'll forgo giving her a punishment...

Now that he was alone, he focused on what had been occupying his mind.

Now that I've slept with her, I've technically stolen her from my father. That means the requirements of the quest have been completed, right?

As if answering his query, a crisp, ethereal "ding" resounded directly in his mind, vibrating through his very soul.

In an instant, the dim room was illuminated by the soft, neon-blue glow of a transparent screen that flickered into existence right in front of his eyes.

As the words began scrolling across the system interface, a surge of excitement hit him. He was so pumped that he leapt out of bed, completely naked, unable to sit still.

"Damn... this is it. My spiritual veins are finally going to be fixed. I'll be able to cultivate and graduate from being a damn cripple!"

He barely had time to catch his breath before another chime echoed.

This time, the blue screen dissolved into a swirl of golden particles, knitting themselves together into a massive, ornate wheel that hovered in the center of the room.

It was etched with ancient runes and divided into shimmering sections of purple, gold, and crimson.

What the hell? Is this a roulette?

Sensing his confusion, the system's cold, mechanical voice spoke up clearing his doubts.

[This is the Wheel of Fortune, every time the host completes a new quest he will be given rewards based on the things he needs the most during that time this could be spiritual tools, cultivation techniques, cultivation pills etc..]

Awesome!! A Wheel of Fortune?! I wonder what it's gonna give me, since I have damaged spiritual veins, will it give me a pill to fix my broken meridians?!

Driven by a surge of pure adrenaline, he stepped toward the golden construct. He reached out, his hand passing through the edge of the light as he took hold of the spectral rim and gave it a violent, desperate spin.

Whoosh!

The wheel blurred into a kaleidoscope of gold and white light. The sound of it spinning was like a rushing wind, filling his ears and making the air in the room turn heavy with static energy. His gaze was locked on the pointer, his breath hitched in his throat.

Come on... come on! Don't screw me over now! Give me something good!

The wheel began to slow, the clicking sound of the pointer hitting the pegs echoing like a heartbeat.

Click... click... click... It passed a section for a "Heaven-Grade Spiritual Reconstruction Pill" then skipped over a "Meridian Birthing Pill"

Finally, with one last agonizing lurch, it slammed to a halt on a section that began to emit a blinding, sun-like radiance.

The system's voice returned, but this time it sounded like a thunderclap.

A pillar of searing heat suddenly erupted from the floor, engulfing his body. He felt as if his very blood had been turned into molten gold.

"What the fuck?!!"
