Chapter 31: The Blueprints of Home

[System Notification: Achievement Unlocked — 'Legacy of the Blue Shutters']

Location: The Blue Shutter Patisserie | Time: 8:00 AM

The morning light in Mumbai is golden and thick, filtered through the steam of the industrial espresso machine. I was standing behind the counter, looking at a framed photo on the wall: the "Golden Trio" on opening night, covered in flour and grinning like idiots.

The patisserie wasn't just a local favorite; it was a landmark. We had won the National Award for Adaptive Reuse, and today, the blueprints for our second location—a converted seaside warehouse—were spread across the table.

"Meera! The cardamom buns are out!" Ananya's voice rang out from the kitchen. She looked radiant, her hair tied back in a messy bun, wearing an apron that said CEO: Chief Eclair Officer.

"Coming!" I called back, but I was distracted by the sound of the front door chime.

The Resident Doctor

Ishaan walked in, still wearing his light blue hospital scrubs, looking slightly sleep-deprived but entirely content. He didn't say a word; he just walked behind the counter, pulled me into his arms, and kissed my forehead.

"Long night?" I asked, handing him his usual black coffee.

"Three successful surgeries and one very grumpy toddler," he sighed, leaning against the counter. He glanced at my ring finger. The silver band was still there, but now it was joined by a gold wedding band—a simple, elegant design we had sketched together.

"I saw a man in a charcoal suit outside the hospital today," Ishaan said softly. "He didn't come in. He just left a box of those rare Himalayan seeds for you. No card this time."

I smiled. Madhavan Rao had stayed true to his word. He was no longer the "Titan" controlling my life, but a quiet observer, finally letting the "common branch" grow on its own terms.

The New Project

"So," Ishaan said, nodding toward the new blueprints. "The warehouse. It's a big project, Meera. Lots of structural challenges. Exposed steel, salt-air corrosion..."

"I can handle it, Dr. Malhotra," I teased, tracing the lines of the seaside elevation. "I have a very good consultant."

"Oh? Who's that?"

I pulled a small, ultrasound photo from the pocket of my apron and slid it across the blueprints.

Ishaan froze. The coffee cup stopped halfway to his mouth. He looked at the photo, then at me, his eyes widening with a realization that no medical textbook could prepare him for.

"Is that...?" his voice broke.

"The new project lead," I whispered, my eyes stinging with happy tears. "Due in seven months. I think they might have a thing for architecture. Or maybe cardiology."

Ishaan didn't say anything. He just lifted me off the floor, spinning me around in the middle of the fragrant, sun-drenched shop. Ananya came running out of the kitchen, flour flying everywhere, as she realized what was happening.

"I'm going to be the cool aunt!" she shrieked, joining the hug. "I'm teaching this kid how to bake before they can walk!"

The Final Foundation

As the three of us stood there—the architect, the doctor, and the baker—I realized that the "Altitude Therapy" had worked after all. We weren't hiding from the world anymore. We had built our own.

The walls were solid. The windows were open. And the shutters were a perfect, deep, ocean blue.
