Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 War criminal level performance? Then you must not understand happiness

"There is nothing wrong with this penalty! This is a clear foul inside the box!"

"Kai has won a penalty kick for the team!"

"The sequence of actions he just showed was extremely smooth and perfectly displayed the qualities of an attacking midfielder!"

"Even though this player is short, when it's time to be tough, he's absolutely not soft!"

"According to Sporting Lisbon's arrangement, the penalty taker should be the team's No. 1 star, Cristiano Ronaldo… Hey, Chris is waving his hand?"

Inside the opponent's penalty area, Ronaldo said to Kai, who had just gotten up,

"Kai, how about you take the penalty?"

Kai looked at Ronaldo and laughed wildly in his heart.

Probably no one knew better than him why Ronaldo had given up the spot kick.

The last time the team had a penalty, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who took it.

And he missed.

Today, Ronaldo clearly felt that something was wrong with his feet. With all those outrageous shots flying like airplanes, how could he dare take another penalty?

Missing one penalty was already bad enough. Missing two would completely wreck his mentality.

At this stage, Ronaldo was still far from having an invincible mindset.

He could only slowly erase the psychological shadow of missed penalties when he was in good form.

Today was obviously not that time.

Facing Ronaldo's request, Kai agreed readily.

"Then I'll take it."

So Kai stood at the penalty spot and took the penalty he had earned himself.

Ten seconds later, Kai raised his arms and shouted.

Although the quality of Kai's penalty wasn't particularly high, his deliberately confused look before shooting caused the goalkeeper to misjudge the direction.

Three–one!

Sporting Lisbon extended their lead.

The surrounding fans couldn't help but sigh — Kai really was a player with a big heart.

However, spurred on by the home crowd, Chaves' players still refused to give up.

In the 85th minute, they once again broke through Sporting Lisbon's defense, created chaos in the back line, and finally scored a goal to keep the suspense alive.

Two–three!

In the final five minutes, Chaves went completely berserk, with every player joining the press.

The situation on the pitch became extremely chaotic.

It wasn't until the 89th minute that players from both sides went to ground in a scramble in Chaves' half.

Kai, who was closest to the incident, rushed over immediately.

There was a huge open space in front of him.

Once he carried the ball forward, it would create the final killing chance of the match.

Fans from both sides held their breath.

Chaves' center-back knew he couldn't destroy the ball before Kai, so he chose to retreat cautiously.

He needed to wait for his teammates to recover defensively.

Unless Kai dribbled all the way to the edge of the box, he wouldn't step up.

Because from the edge of the penalty area, Kai's long shot was extremely dangerous.

Boom!

No dribbling!

Kai actually chose to strike directly when everything ahead of him was completely open?

From this distance, even if you're an alien like Ronaldo, that's a bit outrageous, isn't it?

"No! That's not a shot — it's a pass!"

"The ball is flying toward the left side of the box — that position… Chris!"

"Chris is so fast! He read it!"

"Kai passed the ball from a position where he shouldn't have passed, but the strange thing is that Chris seemed to know Kai's intention and ran forward when he shouldn't have!"

"Everything is perfectly timed!"

"The only suspense is whether Chris can catch this pass and live up to Kai!"

Boom!

Ronaldo volleyed the ball directly and smashed it toward goal.

The goalkeeper instinctively made a saving motion, but before he could react, the ball had already flown into the near corner.

Ronaldo kept it down!

He scored!

"The goal! It's in! Kai and Chris succeed!"

"Throughout the entire match, Kai created at least five excellent scoring chances, but his teammates failed to convert them!"

"But this time, Chris finally lived up to Kai's expectations!"

"Four–two! Sporting Lisbon kills the game!"

"This goal doesn't affect the result of the match, but it has special significance for Sporting Lisbon's future!"

"Any team needs time to adapt to new tactics."

"Some need months, some need dozens of days — but Chris showed why he can become the strongest forward in his age group in Portugal!"

"It only took him one game to adapt to a completely different tactical system! His talent is far greater than what we've seen!"

"And if Chris adapting in one game is remarkable, then Kai — who became the absolute core of the new system in his first match back from injury — is even more astonishing."

"He has been underestimated by everyone."

"He is the brain of this team. I see the shadow of Rui Costa in him!"

In the end, the score was set at four–two.

Sporting Lisbon U15 recorded their second consecutive winning streak of the season.

To those who didn't follow their matches closely, this was just another win.

Judging by the scoreline and rhythm, Sporting Lisbon didn't look dominant at all.

There was no real difference between this 4–2 victory and the previous 3–2 win that relied on Cristiano Ronaldo's explosion.

They barely scraped through.

But to those who truly understood Sporting Lisbon, this victory was extraordinary.

Because Sporting Lisbon had changed its core tactical system!

The team's overall difficulty increased.

Yet the combat effectiveness shown wasn't much worse than before.

If every system upgrade could be this seamless, then why were so many clubs afraid to rebuild aging squads?

Barcelona and Juventus in previous years, and Liverpool this year, all chose to grit their teeth and endure, because generational change was unbearably painful. But the harder they endured, the more painful it became.

Previously, Sporting Lisbon U15 were probably only third- or fourth-tier in the league.

Now, after full integration, this Sporting Lisbon side clearly has the strength to compete across divisions.

In other words, they have the ability to challenge for the championship!

After the match, Kai, who had performed brilliantly, was interviewed by the media as the man of the match.

Reporter: "Congratulations, Kai. Your performance today was astonishing. I believe more and more people are looking forward to your 20th birthday."

Kai: "Why wait until twenty? I believe both Chris and I will meet everyone's expectations much earlier."

Reporter: "At what age do you think that will be?"

Kai: "Eighteen? Or maybe sixteen."

Reporter: "Haha, you're really good at joking. Let's talk about today's match. Your teammates wasted many chances, including Chris. Apart from the final goal, his overall performance wasn't ideal."

"Some people are calling him a war criminal. Would that make you angry?"

Kai smiled.

The reporter didn't understand why.

Kai could clearly feel the shame and fear in his teammates' eyes when they looked at him from a distance. Their performance really had been at a war-criminal level.

They had completely wasted Kai's brilliant passes.

But Kai replied calmly,

"I never think my teammates played like war criminals. If someone believes that, then I can only say they don't understand what happiness is."

"I know my teammates' level. They are definitely the best among their peers. It's my passing that still needs improvement. Right now, my passes are too sharp — even professional players struggle to adapt."

"I believe a great passer doesn't just deliver good balls and beautiful passes, but also makes sure his teammates can actually receive them."

"Of course, this was only our first official match using this system. I believe that after enough time to gel, we'll eventually show a perfect version of ourselves."

"When that time comes, we'll be worthy of any honor."

Reporter: "It's a blessing to be your teammate. Your words just now have greatly eased the pressure they face. Does 'any honor' include the league championship?"

Kai nodded.

"Including the league championship."
