I blacked out again...

It was not my first time.

You tend to black out a lot when you're a Key holder.

My head throbbed like someone had taken a hammer to the inside of my skull and kept swinging.

Everything was dark, then light, then dark again, I saw blurry flashes of motion and the constant, bone-rattling jolt of wood wheels over uneven ground.

I was lying on my side, my cheeks were pressed to rough planks. My wrists burned. Chains clinked evrytime.

The chains confused me. I was in no state to escape, so why bind me? Unless my prison itself was moving. The constant rattling gave it away.

I was in a cart probably.

My biggest assumption, I had to be in one.

It was cramped.

I must have blacked out. One second Maeve was shoving me up out of the tunnel into blinding daylight, the next—nothing. Just pain and the sick lurch of being dragged.
