Konoha Year 47. Several years had passed since the blood-soaked conclusion of the Second Great Ninja War. On the surface, the Shinobi World maintained a fragile, glass-thin peace as the Five Great Nations licked their wounds and replenished their ranks. Beneath this calm façade, however, undercurrents had long been surging into a maelstrom.

Nearly a decade of relative stability had eroded the Five Great Nations' absolute hegemony over the surrounding minor territories. A vacuum of power inevitably bred ambition. Frictions grew daily; skirmishes and proxy wars over dwindling resources, disputed territory, and strategic strongholds erupted with clinical frequency across the continent. Major powers openly wooed or covertly bullied smaller nations, dragging them into the whirlpool of their own self-interest, sparking widespread resentment among the displaced and the conquered.

At last, quantitative friction triggered qualitative collapse. The accumulated grievances were a powder keg—and the world was finally ready for the spark.

The flames of the Third Great Ninja War ignited in full. What began as border friction escalated into open declarations of war and large-scale military clashes. The conflict spread like a plague, sweeping through the nations and hurling millions back into the bloody meat grinder of history.

Sunagakure, only just recovering from its previous scars, was once again shrouded in the shadow of conflict. Mission boards overflowed with high-priority patrol, alert, and reconnaissance assignments; the village atmosphere turned tense and grim. Reports of surgical strikes along the Land of Wind's borders arrived with disturbing frequency.

The storm was no longer on the horizon; it was at the village gates.

Yet for Sayo, the past two years had been a golden age of transformation. Under Elder Chiyo's all-out guidance, his progress had been visible and meteoric.

His Kugutsu (Puppet Technique) had long surpassed basic construction. He now delved into compound architectures, high-level energy-circuit inlays, and multi-puppet coordination theory, all while absorbing the ruthless combat logic Sasori had demonstrated during their "Hiruko" encounter.

In Iryō-Ninjutsu (Medical Ninjutsu), though limited by his primary chakra attributes, his theoretical foundation was rock-solid. His understanding of human anatomy, meridians, and toxicological chemistry far exceeded that of veteran field medics. He developed a signature style of using Sealing Techniques for internal energy regulation—treating the human body like a biological machine to be optimized.

His Fūinjutsu (Sealing Arts) advanced by leaps and bounds. Under Bunpuku's patient instruction and the "poison-tongued" sparring of the Shukaku, Sayo began constructing complex, high-level barrier and sealing formulas. This knowledge laid the groundwork for the next generation of his "Puppet Core" and "Body Tempering Furnace."

Wind and Earth Release remained his combat focus. His Chūnin-level reserves allowed him to sustain high-output techniques, while his engineering-grade control made his Ninjutsu exceptionally condensed. Whether it was the structural defense of Earth or the high-frequency slicing of Wind, Sayo had forged a unique, hybrid combat style that prioritized efficiency over flash.

All of this was sustained by the continuous nourishment of the Body Tempering Furnace. Over these two years, he never stopped refining the device. Constrained by rare materials, upgrades were slow, but the effects were tangible.

The most obvious outward sign: Sayo had finally hit his growth spurt. Once diminutive and frail, he had grown markedly taller. His frame was now well-proportioned and upright, muscles flowing with a supple power that spoke of a body rebuilt from the cellular level. The childhood roundness had left his face, replaced by the sharp, clear-cut lines of adolescence. His dark eyes had grown deeper, calmer, with occasional flashes of a technical sharpness that commanded immediate respect.

Of all his training, the most arduous yet exhilarating was the development of his Jiton (Magnet Release). After countless failures, adjustments, and retries—drawing upon his deep understanding of molecular friction and magnetic field theory—he finally achieved a breakthrough.

At this moment, in the open ground behind his cottage, Sayo held his breath. He extended his right hand, palm up. The chakra within his body circulated and fused in an unprecedentedly complex ratio. A faint, silvery-black mist—composed of innumerable ultra-fine metallic grains—slowly condensed and spiraled above his palm.

It was no mere shape transformation; it radiated a unique, rhythmic magnetic fluctuation. Sayo's eyes narrowed. The clump of Magnet Release chakra quivered.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Several training shuriken scattered on the ground were yanked upward as if seized by invisible hands, clinging tightly to the silvery-black mist hovering over his palm.

Though the chakra collapsed after only a few seconds, sending the shuriken clattering back to the sand, the phenomenon was undeniable. Sayo had officially stepped through the doorway of a Kekkei Genkai.

Magnet Release—initial success.

Watching the fallen steel, Sayo slowly clenched his fist, his heart brimming with a cold, analytical pride. More than two years of sweat and persistence had finally borne the sweetest fruit.

Yet at that very moment, a hurried bell pealed from the village center, shattering the morning quiet. It was the Emergency Assembly signal.

Sayo lifted his gaze toward the sound, his brows knitting. The storm of war was finally sweeping his sanctuary into its maelstrom. The peaceful days of training were over. The era of the engineer-shinobi had begun.
