Time slipped away as Sayo worked day and night, his existence a singular focus of engineering and chakra theory. When the last micro-seal component for stabilizing the natural energy output was finally carved and passed its brutal stress test, the workshop fell into a profound, heavy silence.
Sayo straightened his aching back and swept his gaze over the components arranged in neat categories beside the bench: a sleek matte-gray platform shell, a magnetic-levitation array baseplate inlaid with precise runes, and vector-thrust nozzles designed with fluid dynamic principles. Beside them sat the sensor modules, miniaturized weapon hard-points, and an emergency survival bay. Every piece of the "Mirage" prototype was complete.
They lay there quietly, like the skeleton of some slumbering beast waiting for a soul.
Just then his father, Sharyu, returned home. Seeing the mountains of futuristic parts, he was startled; but after Sayo's excited, crystal-clear explanation of magnetic flux and natural energy conversion, he understood the gravity of what lay before him.
"You… you built all this alone?" Sharyu's voice shook. He had known his son was a prodigy, but he hadn't imagined a creation that moved so far beyond the traditional "humanoid" or "animal" puppet concepts of Sunagakure.
"Every blueprint and part is mine," Sayo answered, his eyes shining with a Jōnin's intensity. "Father, I need your help for the final assembly. Your hands are steadier than anyone's."
Without hesitation, Sharyu rolled up his sleeves. The two threw themselves into a tight, orderly assembly. Sayo directed with surgical precision, while Sharyu, with decades of puppet-repair experience, fitted the delicate components together.
Core Installation: Seating the Type-II Natural Energy Puppet Core into the heart of the chassis.
Energy Mapping: Laying the high-purity chakra-conducting lines that linked the core to the peripheral systems.
Hull Integration: Sealing the streamlined, aerodynamic shell over the internal frame.
Calibration: Fine-tuning the angles of the magnetic-levitation array and the vector-thrust joints.
Days later, the last panel clicked flawlessly into place. In the center of the workshop stood an unprecedented creation. Its matte charcoal surface was sleek and sharp, forming a flat, elongated shuttle. A slight rise created a protective cockpit frame, while complex vector nozzles studded the flanks like the gills of a predatory fish.
It was the Mirage.
The moment of truth had come. Sayo drew a deep breath and stepped forward. Sharyu stood back, fists clenched. Sayo raised his hands, and ten near-invisible Chakra Threads shot from his fingertips, latching precisely onto the Mirage's control nodes.
He steadied his mind and, through the threads, fed his refined, nature-tempered chakra into the core.
"Activate."
Inside the core, the Spirit Siphoning Seal awoke. It began to draw in and convert the ambient Natural Energy of the desert.
Voom—
A deep, potent hum resonated through the workshop floor. It wasn't the rattling click of mechanical gears, but the full-throated, harmonic resonance of a high-energy system. The magnetic runes along the underside blazed with a soft, milky light, generating a powerful, invisible field.
In the next instant, the heavy Mirage prototype defied gravity. It rose smoothly, hovering exactly a palm's breadth above the floor—rock-steady and silent.
Success! The maglev system was online.
Stifling a shout of triumph, Sayo twitched a single finger. The vector nozzles pivoted with a soft hiss of compressed wind, and the platform glided forward, turned, and reversed with a fluidity that no legged puppet could ever hope to match.
"It… it works! Sayo, you did it!" Sharyu's voice trembled as he gingerly touched the hovering hull, feeling the immense upward pressure of the magnetic field.
"We did it, Father!" Sayo's face lit with a brilliant grin.
Only a prototype—weapons still unmounted and flight ceilings untested—but it flew. The hardest step had been taken. Gazing at the floating Mirage, Sayo didn't just see a puppet; he saw a vehicle that would skim the dunes, rewrite the rules of shinobi warfare, and perhaps, one day, bring water to the parched throat of the Land of Wind.
