Chapter 53 - My Mate

Azura's POV

We walked back to the horses in silence.The path twisted through the trees like it wanted to keep us trapped in this dark place. The forest was quiet around us, just the sound of our boots on dead leaves and birds calling somewhere far away. But inside my head, it was deafeningly loud.

'The hook is set. The line is pulled. And you, little wolf, are already drowning.'

The witch's words kept echoing in my mind, twisting and turning like a riddle I couldn't solve, no matter how hard I tried. What did she mean? What hook? What line? And why did she look at me with that strange mixture of pity and knowledge, as if she knew exactly how my life was going to end?

I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to shake off the deep chill that had settled into my bones, a chill that had nothing to do with the cold air and everything to do with fear.

"You're quiet."
