Minnie POV
Finally, the day arrived Sunday.
Will had asked me to give him company to explore Chennai, and I was already awake before my alarm. I got ready slowly, choosing my clothes twice and fixing my hair more than usual.
I really missed Sara today. College felt boring without her, and she was the only one I could tell everything to. So much had happened in just a few days, and I had no one to share it with properly.
Yesterday, I had asked Maya to cover my shift at the café.
Flashback
Maya crossed her arms and looked at me suspiciously.
"So... Minnie is suddenly taking a holiday?" she said dramatically. "And leaving me alone with all the customers? Who is this special person?"
I tried to act innocent. "Maya, please. I really need a day off."
She leaned closer. "You're not sick. You're not tired. Which means... you're going out with someone."
I froze for a second.
To distract her, I quickly made her a big cup of boba tea and placed it in front of her like a peace offering.
"See this?" I said sweetly. "One week of free boba tea. Deal?"
Her eyes sparkled. "One week?"
"Yes. Full week."
She pretended to think. "Hmm... bribery accepted. But tell me-who are you going out with?"
I smiled awkwardly. "A... good friend."
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. 'Good friend.' Just go before I ask more questions and you confess everything
End of Flashback
I smiled to myself while remembering it.
Good friend. That's what I called him,But even I wasn't sure anymore.
After getting ready, I stood in front of the mirror and took a deep breath.
"Why am I nervous?" I asked my reflection. "It's just a trip with a good friend."
My reflection didn't look convinced.
grabbed my bag and checked my phone for the tenth time. No message yet from Will.
Relax, Minnie. He said he'll text you the time.
Still, my heart kept racing like I was about to write an exam instead of going sightseeing.
Outside, the morning sun felt warmer than usual. The street looked brighter, and even the noise of traffic didn't bother me today.
As I waited, I couldn't stop thinking about everything that had happened in the past few days- his cold words, his quiet care, the rooftop dinner, the car ride, and now... this.
This was supposed to be fake.
But my feelings were starting to feel very real.
I shook my head and laughed softly. "First you agree to be his fake girlfriend, and now you're acting like this is a real date. Well done, Minnie."
My phone buzzed.
It was Will.
I'll pick you up in ten minutes.
My heart skipped.
"Ten minutes?!" I whispered dramatically and rushed to check my hair one last time.
As I stepped out of the house, I reminded myself again.
This is just a Sunday outing. Just two friends. Nothing more.
I saw Will waiting outside the car for me. He looked... really good today. For a second, I forgot how to walk properly.
I smiled and went toward him. He smiled back, then opened the car door for me. I paused, surprised by the gesture, before getting in.
"Good morning," he said, closing the door gently.
"Good morning," I replied, trying not to sound too happy.
He walked around to the driver's side and started the car. As we pulled away, I glanced at him and then quickly looked out the window, pretending I was very interested in the road.
I asked him about the plan for today, and he just smiled and said, "It's a surprise."
I sighed dramatically and looked out the window, pretending to be annoyed, but inside I was curious. A few minutes later, the car stopped in front of a beautiful restaurant. I turned to him with wide eyes.
"Let's have breakfast first," he said.
We went inside, and the place looked warm and elegant. The view from our table was breathtaking. It felt like he had planned everything carefully.
"After a long time, I came here again," he said softly. "I used to come here when I lived in Chennai." He began sharing small memories from his past, and I listened closely, smiling at how his voice changed when he talked about them.
We had breakfast while talking about simple things-college, work, and random stories. Time passed without us noticing.
After that, he looked at me and asked, "Shall we go to a movie?"
I nodded. "Okay."
When we reached the theater, I was shocked to see that he had already booked the tickets.
"You knew I would say yes?" I asked, smiling.
He looked at me calmly. "I hoped you would."
That one sentence made my heart beat a little faster.
We walked inside together, laughing and teasing each other like old friends, and for the first time.
Author Note:
In the movie theatre, Will noticed something he hadn't expected-Minnie quietly wiping her tears during an emotional scene, trying hard not to let anyone see. The way she controlled herself, pretending she was fine, made him smile softly without realizing it.
After the movie, they went for ice cream and spent the afternoon laughing and talking like two people who had forgotten the word fake. Every moment felt real, warm, and sincere.
By evening, they ended up at the beach. Sitting side by side on the sand, watching the waves in silence, neither of them spoke-but both felt the same peace in that quiet moment.
It wasn't a fake relationship that day. It was two hearts slowly finding comfort in each other.
Minnie POV
I finally gathered the courage to ask him,
"Why are you so cold to everyone? Why don't you believe in love?"
He looked at me for a long moment. "Do you really want to know?"
"If you're okay with sharing it with me," I said softly.
He took a deep breath and began to tell me about his past-about his college days, about the girl he loved, and how she cheated on him on his birthday. The day that was supposed to be special became the day his trust broke.
After that, he said, he stopped believing in love. He stopped trusting people. And slowly, he turned cold.
As I listened, my heart felt tight, like someone was pressing it from inside. I wanted to hug him, to tell him he wasn't alone. But I couldn't. Our relationship was only fake.
So instead, I gently touched his hand.
"I want to tell you something," I said quietly. "When life hurts me, I remind myself not to lose hope. Some days I feel tired, some days I feel broken... but I still believe that everything will be okay one day."
I looked into his eyes.
"Don't lose hope in yourself, Will. One person's mistake doesn't mean love is wrong. And please... don't change who you are because of your past. You don't have to become cold to protect yourself."
My voice trembled a little. "You deserve happiness too."
