Chapter 44 - Chapter 43

Will POV

Morning came too quickly. I got ready for work with a heavy heart. I had so many pending works, yet my mind was stuck on one person-Minnie. It had been a month since I slept properly. I sighed and went downstairs.

Mia : "Will, you're finally awake. Come and have breakfast."

I nodded and sat beside my sister.

Luna: "Good morning, brother!"

I forced a small smile.

Luna: "What happened to you? You look so tired. Are you even sleeping these days?"

Will: "I'm fine, Luna. Just work pressure."

I tried to continue eating.

Luna suddenly put her hand on my shoulder and smiled teasingly.

Luna: "Bro... are you missing someone from India?"

I froze for a second, looked at her, and gently pushed her hand away.

Will: "How do you know about Minnie?"

Luna's eyes widened in excitement.

Luna: "Wow... Minnie? So it's true! My brother fell in love! Tell me everything about her."

Will: "Don't teasing me, Luna. This is adult business. Don't interfere."

Luna: "Adult business? Bro, I'm already 22. I finished my degree. I'm ready to work now."

I looked at her seriously.

Will: "Then come and join my office from tomorrow."

Luna: "What? Your office?"

She laughed nervously.

"No way! I'm still a child. I can't handle your office pressure."

I smirked.

Will: "A minute ago you said you were an adult. Now you're a child?"

Mom and Dad were listening quietly.

Dad: "Will is right, Luna. It's time you start working."

Luna quickly grabbed her bag.

Luna: "Okay okay! But not today. Today I'm going out with my friends.'

She waved her hand dramatically.

Luna: "Bye Dad, bye Mom!"

Mom shook her head and smiled.

Mia : "This girl will never change."

I watched Luna leave and suddenly felt the house become quiet again...

I reached the office and immediately got busy with my work. My mind tried to focus on files instead of memories. After some time, I heard a knock on my cabin door.

Will: "Come in."

The door opened and Nova walked in with a wide smile.

Nova: "Good morning, Will. Today is a special day, you know."

Will: "Special day? Did the coffee machine finally start working?"

Nova laughed.

Nova: "No, sir. We got a new personal assistant. She' s joining today."

I raised my eyebrow.

Will: "Since when? When did you interview her? And why am I hearing this at the last minute"

Nova: "Hey, don't blame me. You told me to coordinate with HR, so I did. Everything happened very fast."

I sighed.

Will: "So... who is he?"

Nova shook his head dramatically.

Nova: "Not he. She. And trust me, she's really pretty."

I gave him a serious look.

Will: "Nova, this is an office, not a dating platform."

Nova placed his hand on his chest.

Nova: "Boss, maybe this year I will finally get married. Who knows? Love can happen in the workplace"

I smirked.

Will: "With your attitude, you'll stay single for the rest of your life."

Nova pretended to be heartbroken.

Nova: "Wow, such motivation from my boss."

I stared at him coldly.

Will: "Go back to work before I fire you for talking too much."

Nova saluted playfully.

Nova: "Yes sir. Wish me luck with my future wife."

He ran out of my cabin laughing, and I shook my head, trying not to smile... unaware of how much today was about to change my life.

Time passed,I was sitting in my cabin, reading a story draft for our upcoming movie project,Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in," I said softly.

The door opened. Nova walked in first... and beside him stood a woman.

She was looking around my cabin with curious eyes.

For a second, I didn't understand what I was seeing. My breath stopped in my chest. My hands froze. My heartbeat forgot its rhythm.

It was Minnie.

Standing right there. In front of me. In my office. In my life again.

My mind screamed, What is she doing here? My heart whispered, Is this destiny?

I had left her. I had walked away from her. I told myself she would be happier without me. And now... she was standing just a few feet away, looking real, warm, and painfully familiar.

Our eyes met.

In that moment. the whole world went silent.

All the memories came rushing back-Chennai, her smile, her tears, the distance I created, the words I never said. I didn't know whether I should feel happy that I was seeing her again... or ashamed because I didn't deserve to.

I wanted to step forward.

I wanted to say her name. But my body refused to move.

I heard a cough.

Nova.

The sound pulled me back to reality. I quickly looked away from Minnie, afraid that if I looked at her any longer, my emotions would betray me.

Nova cleared his throat and spoke, unaware of the storm inside me.

Nova: "Mr. Will, this is Minnie. She will be working here from today as our new personal assistant."

His words felt like a thunderbolt in my chest.

Working here... with me... every day?

I stood there, pretending to be calm, pretending to be professional, while inside my heart was breaking and healing at the same time.

Minnie POV

I stood beside Nova, holding my documents tightly in my hands, trying to look confident and professional. On the outside, I was calm. I smiled politely. I nodded when Nova introduced me. I reminded myself again and again, You are here for your career, Minnie. Be strong.

But inside... everything broke.

The moment my eyes met his, my heart forgot how to beat.

It was Will.

I felt the air leave my lungs. My chest tightened, and my hands started to shake slightly. I wanted to look away, but I couldn't. All the memories I had buried so deeply came back in one second-his smile, our time in Chennai, the pain of being left behind, the nights I cried hugging my pillow.

Why him?

Out of all the places in the world... why did my destiny bring me here, to his office?

I forced myself to stand straight. I forced a small smile. I told myself not to cry. This was not the Minnie who cried for him anymore. This was the Minnie who came to Paris for her dream job.

Nova's voice echoed in my ears, but I barely heard it.

My mind was screaming, Don't look at him. Don't fall again. Stay strong.

But my heart whispered, You never stopped loving him.

I introduced myself in a steady voice, even though my throat felt tight.

"Hello sir, I'm Minnie Thomas."

Professional words... but a broken heart behind them.

I could feel his eyes on me, and that made everything harder. I wanted to ask him so many questions-Why did you leave? Did you ever miss me? Was I nothing to you?

But I said nothing.

I was standing in front of the man who once meant everything to me, pretending he was just my boss.

On the outside, I was his new assistant. On the inside, I was the girl who was breaking all over again... silently.

Will POV

The moment she said, "Hello sir, I'm Minnie Thomas," something shattered inside me.

Sir...

That single word built a wall between us.

Not Will.

Not the man she once trusted. Just her boss.

I forced myself to Noted, pretending to be calm, pretending she was just another employee. But inside, my heart was screaming her name. I could feel my hands trembling under the table, so I clenched them together to hide it.

She stood there straight and professional, but I could see it-her eyes avoided mine. She was trying to be strong. She was trying to act like nothing had ever happened between us.

And that hurt more than anger would have.

Nova kept talking about her role, her responsibilities, her joining date... but his words became noise in my ears. All I could hear was my own heartbeat and the silent question inside me:

Why are you here, Minnie? Why did fate bring you back to me?

I wanted to apologize.

I wanted to explain.

wanted to tell her that every night in Paris I had missed her more than I ever admitted.

But I said nothing.

Because I had no right.

She came here for her future. I was only a part of her past.

When she finally looked at me again, her eyes were calm... too calm. Like she had already accepted that I was just a chapter she had closed. And suddenly I realized something painful-

She was healing. And I was still stuck where she left me.

I cleared my throat and spoke in the coldest, most professional voice I could manage:

"Welcome to the company, Minnie. I hope you'll do well here."

She nodded politely. "Thank you, sir."

That was it.

No memories.

No emotions.

Only distance.

But when she turned and walked out of my cabin, my heart whispered the truth I couldn't say aloud:

I never stopped loving you.. I only lost the courage to tell you.

Minnie POV

After leaving his cabin, my legs felt weak, but I forced myself to walk back to my seat as if nothing had happened.

I sat down slowly beside Caroline and kept my bag on the table. My hands were shaking. My heart was beating so fast that I was afraid everyone could hear it. I took a deep breath... then another... trying to calm myself.

You are here for your career, Minnie. Not for him, I reminded myself.

But it was too hard.

Seeing Will again after everything... in this way... as my boss... felt like reopening a wound that had just started to heal. My chest felt heavy, and my eyes burned with unshed tears. I lowered my head and pretended to arrange my notebook so no one could see my face.

Nova pulled his chair closer to me and smiled.

Nova: "Hey... are you okay? First-day shock?"

I forced a small smile. "Yes... just nervous."

He nodded. "Don't worry. I'll teach you everything slowly. You're safe with me."

His words felt kind, and for the first time since entering the office, I felt a little relief.

Nova opened his laptop and turned the screen toward me.

Nova: "So, Minnie, this is our daily work. We manage schedules, meetings, client mails, and pro ject files for the business development team. Your main job is to help Mr. Will and me with appointments and reports."

I listened carefully, trying to focus on his voice instead of the storm inside my heart.

Nova: "See this file? These are today's meetings. You will prepare the documents before each one. And this is the email system. I'll show you how to reply professionally."

I nodded again and again, writing everything in my notebook like my life depended on it.

But inside, my mind kept drifting back to him.

He is just my boss now. Nothing more. I must be strong.

This was my first day in Paris. My first day at work. And the hardest test of my heart.

I didn't come here to break again.

I came here to build myself.

And this time... I would not let love destroy my dreams.

Nova POV

After I finished explaining Minnie's work and made sure she was comfortable at her desk, I walked back to Will's cabin, feeling proud of myself for surviving "trainer duty."

I knocked and went inside.

"Good morning, Mr. Serious Face," I said cheerfully. "So... how is our new personal assistant?"

Will was looking at his laptop. "She's fine. Is her training done?"

nodded. "Yes. She's smart and very quick to learn. HR really chose well this time."

I sat on the chair in front of his table and smirked. "You know, Will.. I think I like her already."

He finally looked up. "Like her"

"Relax, not love," I laughed. "But she's kind, polite, and beautiful too. I think I found my future wife.'

He rolled his eyes. "Focus on your job, Nova. This is an office, not a marriage bureau."

I laughed louder.

"Why so cold? You always tell me to get married soon. Now I found a girl and you're scolding me?"

He replied seriously, "Don't mix personal life with work."

I teased him again.

"You once told me about a girl you liked in Chennai, right? Minnie something... maybe this Minnie is my Minnie."

I laughed at my own joke.

Will's face stiffened for a second, but he controlled himself quickly.

"That Minnie and this Minnie are not the same. Don't be foolish"

I didn't notice his change and continued joking. "Anyway, I'll take good care of her. She looks innocent. Paris office is dangerous for soft-hearted girls."

Will said coldly, "She doesn't need anyone's protection. She can handle herself."

I raised my hands dramatically.

"Okay okay, boss. You are defending her like her bodyguard already."

He gave me a sharp look. "Nova, go back to your work."

I stood up, laughing.

"Alright, alright. But remember, if I fall in love with

her, don't blame me later."

He didn't answer.

As I walked out, I felt something strange in the air. I didn't know why Will suddenly became serious when I spoke about Minnie... but I had no idea that the girl sitting outside was the same Minnie from his past and that one coincidence was about to change everything.

Minnie POV

After Nova left my desk, the office slowly became quiet again.

Keyboards clicked. Phones rang. Papers moved. Life went on like nothing had happened.

But inside me, everything was shaking.

I sat in my chair and tried to breathe normally. Inhale... exhale...

My hands were cold. My heart was beating too fast.

Why is he here?

Why is Will my boss?

I stared at my computer screen, but I couldn't see a single word.

My mind was still stuck in that moment when our eyes met in his cabin.

The same eyes that once looked at me with warmth... now looked at me like a stranger.

"Focus, Minnie... focus," I whispered to myself.

Nova had explained my work clearly-emails, schedules, meetings-but the only thing my heart kept repeating was his name.

Will... Will... Will...

I straightened my back and forced myself to type.

This job was my dream.

Paris was my fresh start.

would not let my past destroy my future.

I wiped the corner of my eyes before any tear could fall.

No one in this office needed to know how broken I was inside.

To them, I was just the new personal assistant. But inside, I was a girl trying to survive the return of the man she ran away from.

Will POV

After Nova left my cabin, the room felt empty... and heavy.

I stood up from my chair and walked to the window, placing my hand on the glass.

My reflection looked tired. Lost.

Minnie...

Of all the cities in the world... she had come to my office.

To my life again.

I closed my eyes.

Is this destiny... or punishment?

I had tried to forget her.

had buried her name under work, meetings, and silence.

But now she was sitting just a few steps away from my cabin.

I heard her soft voice earlier.

The same voice that once said goodbye to me in Chennai.

The same voice I thought I would never hear again.

My chest tightened.

You don't deserve her, Will, I told myself. You chose to leave. You chose distance. You chose silence.

And yet... seeing her again made every wall I built collapse.

I wanted to go out.

I wanted to ask her, "How are you?"

I wanted to tell her, "I never stopped thinking about you."

But I stayed still.

Because a boss should not show weakness. And a man who hurt her has no right to hold her again.

I sat back in my chair and opened a file, but the words blurred.

She is here now, my heart whispered. And nothing will ever be the same again.
