Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Two Who Do Not Stay Dead

The woman didn't move.

Neither did Kael.

The air between them tightened, heavy with unspoken calculations. This wasn't a standoff born of fear—it was recognition. The kind that only existed between beings who had died enough times to understand what death truly meant.

"You're not divine," Kael said first.

She tilted her head, amused. "Neither are you. Not yet."

Her gaze slid to the space above his soul, lingering where the Hollow Crown pressed invisibly against reality.

"But you're wearing something dangerous."

Kael didn't deny it. "And you've been watching me."

"Of course." She stepped down from the pillar without jumping, gravity bending subtly to accommodate her descent. "I felt the Judgement God rupture. That sort of scream carries."

She stopped a few paces away.

"Name's Seris," she said. "At least, the one I still answer to."

[Entity Identified: Seris Valen]

Classification: Undying Executor]

Cause of Immortality: Sealed Contract (Unknown)]

Kael's eyes narrowed. "Executor?"

Seris smiled thinly. "I kill things that can't be allowed to exist. Or I used to."

Used to.

Before Kael could ask, the world twitched.

Not shook—twitched. Like a muscle spasm in reality itself.

Seris swore under her breath. "Too late."

The ground split open.

Black stone erupted upward, forming a ring of obelisks etched with execution runes older than the gods themselves. Chains of light snapped into place between them, enclosing the valley in a killing field.

[Execution Domain: ACTIVE]

Target(s): Immortal-Class Entities]

Kael exhaled slowly. "They really don't like me."

"They don't like us," Seris corrected, drawing twin blades that hummed with sealed authority. "This domain doesn't kill."

She looked at him.

"It erases."

The chains lashed out.

Kael moved.

The first chain tore through his chest, annihilating his heart in a burst of white-hot agony. The second wrapped around his leg, crushing bone to dust.

Pain consumed him.

Then—

Stillness.

[Death Recorded.]

[Cause: Authority Erasure – Partial]

[Resurrection Count: 18]

Kael stood again—inside the domain.

The chains froze mid-motion.

His body reformed faster this time, flesh knitting itself with unsettling efficiency. The Hollow Crown pulsed, absorbing fragments of the execution runes like embers sinking into ash.

Seris stared.

"…You came back inside the domain."

Kael flexed his fingers. "Seems I'm getting harder to remove."

The obelisks began to crack.

Seris laughed—a sharp, delighted sound. "Alright, Unkillable. Let's see what happens if we break the rules together."

She hurled one blade into the nearest obelisk.

The execution field destabilized.

Kael stepped forward, shadows roaring to life around him like a storm given shape.

Above them, the sky split wider.

Somewhere far beyond the firmament, a god whispered the word "containment"—and another answered with "war."

[Hollow Crown Progress: 19%]

[New Condition Unlocked: Shared Immortality — Temporary]

Kael smiled, eyes burning with quiet menace.

"Looks like heaven's finally afraid."
