Chapter 13 - In which he was a boring man

"Really."

"Why not?" Sullivan was a breathtaking man. If he decided to go into the modeling industry, no doubt other men would have their careers ruined.

With an eternal beauty like that, he could so easily be on top of the world. Plus the fact that he didn't mind being seen with Anna in public meant that he was interested in her.

"I don't want to be too forward. And I am not in a position where I can afford to worry about that." She didn't even have a penny to her name or a real job, how was she to fraternize with a man of his calibre? "Let's just say Mr Sullivan is my benefactor."

"He is that kind?" She asked, a bit surprised.

"Very." At least to her.

They spoke some more about work and the things they had in common before exchanging contact with the promise to meet outside of the foundation before the week ends.

Because there had been two teams working that day, Anna was able to leave early. She didn't know what to do so she phoned Sullivan.

"Hi."

"Hi. Are you done?" He asked, light tone, soothing voice and she soon found herself smiling.

What is this weird satisfactory feeling she was getting from such mundane conversation she was having with a man that isn't even hers?

"Yes." Silence. "I am a little bored."

"Do you want to come over?" He asked.

"Will I be a bother if I do?"

Sullivan smiled. "No." He couldn't wait to see her. If it were left to him, he would be watching her day and night.

"Okay."

"Should I send you a car?"

Anna chuckled. "Of course not." She was very aware of where the Sullivan building was. After hanging up, she took a taxi and gave the man the address.

Minutes later, Anna was sitting in front of the one place she had destroyed three months ago. The building entrance was busy compared to the quiet one that midnight.

It gave her a sense of melancholy as she stared at the rotating glass door of it and the new decoration the first floor now had. If four months ago someone had told her she would willingly come here, Anna would have argued to the brink.

Walking in, she greeted the receptionist and told her she was here to see Sullivan.

Of course news of them being together was on the internet and it made a lot of women jealous. Women like the receptionist who felt that Anna wasn't good enough to be seen with their vice chairman.

"Do you have any appointments?" She asked, eyeing Anna like she was there to steal something precious.

"Not really." She picked her phone. "Let me just call him."

The other lady next to her heard what Anna said and quickly stopped her. "No Ma'am." She walked around the receptionist desk and stood next to her. "You don't have to, I will help you through."

The first receptionist couldn't understand why her colleague was being over friendly with the lady. She helped Anna to the elevator, before returning to her position.

"Why are you kissing her ass?" Her friend asked.

"I just saved your job." The other lady didn't know why her friend can't put two and two together and read the situation. "Have you ever seen our vice chairman with any woman?"

"No."

"Yet, he had been seen with her and she came here so they just have spoken beforehand. What do you think will happen to you if he finds out you kept his woman waiting?"

The receptionist held her breath. She would have lost her job if her friend hadn't interfered. She hugged her friend's waist and thanked her before moving closer to whisper. "Do you think the rumours that it was her who crashed into the building is true?"

The lady glanced around the first floor and whispered in return. "Vice Chairman Sullivan has been leaving work early and arriving late in the last three months. A blogger saw him frequenting the Sullivan Hospital. I think the rest is easy to understand."

Although there had been gossip when the news carried the issue of the building, it didn't take too long for the rumour to start. Especially since there were also rumours of Anna being in a coma at the same time.

Anna got to the floor and was well received by the lady she had seen him with. His personal assistant, Brook. "Miss Harbinger, the vice chairman, has been expecting you. Please…" she gestured to the huge double door and helped Anna with it.

Amna walked in. It's her first time visiting his company or office—save for the obvious incident—and Anna was surprised to see that the office had the same design as his home.

There wasn't any unnecessary decorations in it. And it was all of dull color tones. A huge conference table to her right, glass view of the entire city before her, two couch in the center, a spare table. His desk that was situated in front of the glass, two doors to her left, a little bar and Sullivan himself emerging from one of the doors.

He looked glad when he saw her as his eyes twinkled with a glint in it. "Anna." he breathed, almost whispering her name.

"Mr Sullivan."

They walked towards each other and stopped with just a few inches between them. She took in his attire, the same black suit and black shirt. Well pressed and perfectly fitting to his body.

She wanted to press her hands against his lapels and adjust his tie, not that it needed adjusting. She just really needed a reason to put her hands on him and feel if his chest was as sturdy as it looked.

"Thank you for having me here." She comments as he gestures to the couch.

"You are welcome. Would you like some macaroons? I picked them up this morning. I felt you might like them."

She immediately walked to him as he brought out the box of colorful macaroons from his refrigerator. "Of course. God! Finally something sweet."

Anna took the box and sat down with it, then picked her phone to read an ebook she had bought. Sullivan noticed that she had already settled in and went about his business, although he barely got anything done because he kept watching her.

Barely an hour later, she dozed off on the couch and it made him laugh a little. She was definitely more bored here and there was nothing he could do to keep her fun and happy. He was a boring man through and through.

Sullivan covered her with a blanket and went back to work, his thoughts filled with the lady sleeping just a few feet away.

Anna woke up by evening and her first view was of him, face seriously buried in documents. She stared at him, the contours of his face and how perfect he looked staring down. Her heart skipped beats and she wanted it to not betray her words of creating boundaries even though she knew she was weak to him.

Regardless of what she had seen him do, she was still weak to him. Always has been. Perhaps, that was why she had avoided him a lot.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

"You are awake." He said without raising his head.

She left the couch and walked to his desk, grazing her hands across the shiny surface of his table before stopping two feet away from him.

Sullivan looked up then, meeting her gaze, the question on his lips a huge bother to his usual bother–free mind. "Anna…"

"Hmmm..?" She picked a fountain pen and toyed with it, writing something on the palm of her hand.

"Are you scared of your sister in law?" She stopped twirling the pen and stared at him. "Let me rephrase, is your sister in law involved in your accident?"
