Chapter 408 - TSWH: Chapter 408

Even with most of its personnel deployed elsewhere, the Marine base in Loguetown remained heavily guarded.

As the "gateway" guarding the route from the East Blue into the Grand Line, it held immense strategic importance, and Marine Headquarters in Marineford kept it under strict watch.

The armories here were well‑stocked, and the soldiers were highly disciplined.

Ordinarily, for just two people — Oboro and Dom — to force their way inside would have taken considerable time and effort. But Dom's ability to "open doors" was incredibly convenient.

Although limited by range and coordinates, to them, the base's defenses were nothing more than an empty shell.

Alarms blared throughout the compound. Countless soldiers who had remained behind poured out from every building, rushing to intercept the intruders.

Under the rainy night sky, gunfire and shouts echoed endlessly.

The Marines at the front line fell one by one — not in a rush, but steadily. Worse, they didn't even know which direction to aim their weapons.

The lone attacker moving among them wielded only a short blade, yet he moved as if walking through an empty field.

Before they could pull the trigger, this figure — swift as a hunting leopard — was already upon them, driving his weapon straight into vital spots.

Part of the problem was the heavy rain, which blurred their vision.

But the main issue was his speed — far beyond what ordinary soldiers could react to.

And there was something else… even when squads tried to use formation and numbers to cut off his movement, it was completely useless.

He could vanish into thin air at will, disappearing without a trace, only to reappear from another direction before anyone realized he was gone.

The deadliness of a single individual had been raised to its absolute limit.

"Send word to Captain Smoker immediately!"

"Already done! He's on his way back!"

"Headquarters has also received our report!"

At the edge of the battlefield, a Marine Ensign from the branch shouted, his face dark with fury and alarm.

The Cunning Fox!

The God‑Slayer really had come to the East Blue… and Loguetown was his very first target.

What terrified him most was that all attention had been focused on the God‑Slayer himself. His accomplice — the Cunning Fox — had been largely overlooked.

According to his file, this man had originally been a small‑time pirate with a low bounty, serving in a crew so obscure it barely registered in the Grand Line.

The only unusual thing about him was his mysterious ability… and his bounty of 50 million Berries was generally believed to be entirely due to his association with the God‑Slayer.

No one thought he was truly dangerous.

But what the Ensign was seeing now proved them all wrong.

He didn't know what might have changed recently, but judging solely from this display of combat power, that 50‑million‑Berry bounty was far less exaggerated than everyone assumed.

"Search for the other one! He must be hiding somewhere inside the base!" the Ensign commanded.

"Sir, yes, sir!"

Lines of soldiers immediately broke off from the fighting and spread out in every direction.

Two men had breached the base.

Only the Cunning Fox remained visible. The Ensign had no idea what Oboro was planning, but he was certain: relying on just one pirate to buy time was nothing but a foolish fantasy.

Even with reduced manpower, the base still held far more troops than two men could ever hope to overcome.

"You the man in charge here?"

Suddenly, as the Ensign surveyed the chaos, a door‑shaped portal appeared out of thin air directly behind him.

Dom leaned halfway out from the "window", his face coming level with the Ensign's shoulder.

And smiled coldly.

The Ensign's face went white. He reached for his sword —

But a flash of silver had already sliced across his throat…

---

Meanwhile, inside an administrative building within the base…

Oboro walked slowly down a quiet corridor and pushed open a heavy door.

Behind him, the floor was littered with Marine bodies, sprawled in every direction.

"This is the place."

He knew he had found it.

The base's Archive Room. Here were stored mountains of documents, records, and intelligence covering every corner of the East Blue.

Much of it was information never meant for outsiders to see.

He walked to a shelf, pulled out a stack of files, and began to read through them one by one.

Minutes later, footsteps and shouts echoed from the hallway outside.

A fresh squad of reinforcements had arrived.

Oboro glanced briefly toward the door, then continued searching for whatever "information" he deemed valuable.

---

Elsewhere, Smoker was already racing back toward the base on his motorcycle the moment he received the alert.

He tried to contact Tashigi, but there was no answer from the Den Den Mushi.

As for the pirates causing havoc in the northeast… he had already defeated and subdued every last one of them, leaving them bound and guarded by the Marines who arrived later.

His coat and hair were disheveled from the fight, but he was unharmed — one of the greatest advantages of a Logia‑type Devil Fruit.

Especially in the Four Blues, very few opponents could actually hurt him.

Even so, dealing with them had taken far longer than he expected.

"Granting power to others… making them stronger… even altering their very bloodlines?"

Cold rain lashed against his face as Smoker's heavy brows drew tight together.

Under intense interrogation and pain, those pirates — so fierce and arrogant only a short while ago — had quickly broken down and confessed everything that had happened to them.

Some of their descriptions were nothing short of unbelievable.

Enhancing another person's strength… changing their bodies and appearance… what kind of Devil Fruit power was that?

And they had said the God‑Slayer intended to build his own crew and power base right here in the East Blue — using these waters as a foundation before eventually returning to the Grand Line.

If he really meant to settle here, his presence would completely change the balance and survival rules for every pirate in the East Blue. And that meant directly challenging Smoker's authority.

He would never allow that to happen.

Today, he would capture the God‑Slayer.

But despite his resolve, Smoker was furious.

He had finally realized… he had been played for a fool.

His grip tightened on the handlebars, and the roar of the motorcycle's engine grew louder and more ferocious.

---

Dom's job was to create chaos and confusion.

Oboro, meanwhile, strolled casually through the base like a guest at a banquet.

Every squad of Marines sent to intercept or stop him posed absolutely no threat — they were nothing more than rising numbers on a death toll.

He didn't even need to fight. Using only his soul perception to sense movements and hide himself, he could move freely without ever being detected.

After spending some time in the archive room, he moved on — until he found exactly what he was looking for.

The ammunition depot.

When he saw the crates and barrels stacked neatly inside, he smiled.

Minutes later, with the first earth‑shaking explosion and a towering column of fire rising into the sky, the destruction of the Loguetown Marine Branch began in earnest…

---

Smoker pushed his machine to its limit, rushing back to the base.

But long before he arrived, he saw it — thick black smoke and raging flames tearing through the curtain of rain, rising high into the air.

His pupils shrank. Veins bulged on his forehead.

He had never imagined Oboro capable of something like this!

The reality was ten, a hundred times worse than his worst fears.

No matter how thinly manned the base was, it should never have been possible to destroy it this thoroughly in such a short time.

Especially since the moment the attack began, every nearby unit had been rushing back to reinforce.

The situation should have been getting under control.

"BASTARD!!"
