HER POV:

I took the shortcut because I was tired.

My shift at the library had ended late, and my feet were already aching. The longer road was crowded and noisy, and I just wanted to reach home, eat something, and sleep.

So I turned into the warehouse street.

Big mistake.

The road was quiet, with broken streetlights flickering above me. The buildings looked dark and empty, like no one had been there in years. I hugged my bag closer and walked faster, telling myself not to imagine things.

Then I heard voices.

Low. Angry. Male.

They were coming from behind one of the abandoned buildings.

I slowed down without meaning to. My heart started beating faster.

I should leave, my mind warned me.

But before I could turn back, a loud gunshot echoed through the street.

I froze.

My whole body went stiff, and my breath got stuck in my throat.

Without thinking, my hand flew to my pocket and grabbed my phone. I held it tightly, my fingers numb with fear.

My thumb slipped on the screen.

The camera opened.

And the recording started.

I didn't even realize what had happened. I was too busy staring at the scene in front of me.

Three men were standing near a man lying on the ground.

Blood was spreading beneath him, dark and thick.

One of the men was SHOUTING, his voice full of anger. Another raised the gun again, pointing it at the man who wasn't even moving anymore.

My legs felt weak.

I wanted to close my eyes, but I couldn't look away.

The gun fired again.

I covered my mouth to stop myself from SCREAMING.

My hand was shaking so badly that the phone trembled, but I still didn't know it was recording everything.

I took a slow step back.

Then another.

Careful. Silent.

The men were too busy with what they were doing. None of them looked in my direction. None of them knew someone was standing there, watching.

My heart was beating so loudly I was scared they would hear it.

When I felt far enough, I turned and walked as fast as I could without making noise.

Only when I reached the main road, where cars were passing and people were walking, did I finally stop.

My chest was hurting from holding my breath.

That's when I looked at my phone.

The red dot was still there.

Still recording.

My blood ran cold.

"Oh no…" I whispered.

With shaking fingers, I stopped the video and locked the phone. I pushed it deep inside my bag, like hiding it could erase what I had just seen.

But nothing could erase that.

I didn't tell anyone.

Not my mother. Not my friends. Not the police.

I was too scared of what would happen if I did.

That night, sleep refused to come.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the gun. The blood. The man on the ground.

Around midnight, my phone buzzed.

My heart jumped into my throat.

Unknown Number.

I stared at the screen, my hands cold.

Then the message appeared.

YOU WERE NEAR THE WAREHOUSE STREET LAST NIGHT.

My breath stopped.

Another message came.

WE KNOW YOU SAW SOMETHING.

Tears filled my eyes.

How could they know?

They never saw me.

The phone buzzed again.

DELETE ANY VIDEO YOU HAVE.

DON'T TALK TO ANYONE.

OR YOUR FAMILY WILL SUFFER.

My body started shaking.

They knew about my family.

They knew about my mother.

I curled up on my bed, holding the phone to my chest, feeling like the walls were closing in on me.

I had escaped unseen…

But I was not safe.

Because somewhere out there, dangerous men were now looking for the girl who had walked away with their secret.

And that girl was me.
