Chapter 3 - 03. Mother.

"But wait a minute. Did I really regress?"

'Or was I just having a really bad dream all along?' Ray pondered.

'No, I don't think so.'

'That doesn't make any sense.'

'How could I have a really vivid dream worth of five years.'

'No, it's not possible.'

'I'm certain everything that had happened to me before wasn't a dream.'

'But if it's not a dream, then that means I've truly returned back to the past.' Ray uttered in his mind as he slowly clenched his fist and releases them right after.

Ray noticed that his memories were still intact and he could vividly recall everything that had happened to him in every moment of those five years.

He recalled the battles, the betrayals, the sacrifice, and the pain he had felt, but most of all, he recalled the look on all of his previous party members' faces when he was just about to be killed, and this filled him with even more rage.

However, that didn't really mattered right now.

And so, Ray swiftly summoned his status window to check out his stats and skills.

"Huh?" Ray stared at the skills displayed in front of him.

He wasn't really interested or worried about his current stats because they were exactly the same as he had recalled them to be.

Even the class he had Awakened now was exactly the same as what he had awakened before, along with the top two skills that came along with it, <> and<>.

However, the last two skills displayed on his screen were new.

Initially, Ray only received two new skills along with his awakening, but now he had received four skills in total, and Ray couldn't help but wonder what his two new skills could do.

And so, he began to read their details.

<> This innate ability allows you to absorb skills, traits and abilities from defeated enemies or bonded allies. Once stored, all absorbed skills can be equipped and used as your own.

<> This ability allows you to form bonds with allies through romantic and sexual connections. All marked candidates will be able to share experience with the host and you can absorb their skills as well.

Looking at the screen displayed before him, Ray's jaw dropped slowly as he read the details of his newly acquired skills.

These skills were clearly unlike any other skills he had ever seen or heard of and they definitely looked overpowered as well.

Based on what he could see on the details of the two skills, Ray felt really excited on what the future had in store for him.

But while Ray was about to start daydreaming of what he would be doing with his new skills from now on, he suddenly heard a knock on his door which startled him a bit.

"Ray?" A female called out from outside his room.

It was his mother and he was certain of it because he recognized her voice.

"Breakfast is ready dear, so come out and eat. Mira made your favorite as well."

Ray's heart skipped a beat when he heard what his mother had said.

Mira was a girl he cared about a lot, and Ray still couldn't believe that she was alive right now.

In fact, he still couldn't believe his mother was alive right now and standing in front of his room.

For years, he had lived with the knowledge that his mother and sister were dead, but now that his mother was still alive, Ray had to take a good look at her.

He swiftly threw off his blanket, then he stumbled to the door before opening it, and right in front of him was his mother standing in the hallway, smiling.

Helen had brown hair tied in a bun and she was wearing a simple dress that was stained with the flour she had used for cooking.

In a nutshell, Helen looked exactly as he had remembered her to be.

"Good morning, sleepyhead." Helen greeted with a smile on her face, but then she noticed the surprised and worried look on Ray's face.

"What is it, dear? Is something wrong?" She asked but Ray couldn't speak.

He simply stared at her and Helen frowned in worry. "Ray? If there's anything...."

Helen paused mid-sentence when Ray swiftly stepped forward to hug her, catching her by surprise.

"Ray? What's....."

"I'm fine, Mom. I'm just so happy to see you this morning."

Helen wondered why he would say that but she didn't dwell on the thought for too long, and instead, she slowly wrapped her arms around him to give him a hug as well.

"Well, I'm happy to see you too, honey. But you're acting strange, are you sure there's nothing wrong? Did you have a bad dream?"

Ray paused as he pondered on what his mother had asked.

In a way, she was right.

Everything that had happened to him in these past five years could easily be described as a bad dream.

Or a nightmare.

But they were definitely the worst five years he had ever experienced because during that time, he had been mocked, betrayed and sacrificed.

Moreover, he was powerless and absent to prevent his mother, sister and first crush from dying.

"Yeah, mom. You are right. I did had a bad dream." he replied softly.

Hearing this, Helen pulled back and studied his face gently. "It's fine dear. Everyone has bad dreams once in a while. So, come downstairs and have breakfast, you'll be forgetting about that dream of yours once you've had something delicious to eat."

Ray smiled and nodded in response.

Helen smiled in return and the two of them headed downstairs with Ray trailing behind her.

Looking around, Ray noticed the house was exactly as he had remembered it to be.

It looked small, clean and warm, and the smell of fresh bread filled the air.
