Chapter 8 - The First Years

(Pov Satoshi)

Once we made it inside the building, we were met by a rather stern-looking man and two other students. One was already rather tall and had flat blond hair; he had a rather serious look on his face, which was contrasted by the other student beside him, who was shorter but seemed much more energetic with black hair that barely reached his ears.

The stern man who must have been Yaga-Sensei seemed to be rather upset if the veins on his forehead were any indication. "You three were supposed to be in class already, not just waiting around for new students, even if you know them personally." He was nearly shouting, though none of the others seemed worried, like they had gotten used to this attitude from their teacher.

"Oh, come on, Sensei, we aren't that late, and how could I let my poor little brother enter this school without checking on him? Why, what kind of brother would that make me?" Satoru, as usual, wasn't taking things very seriously. It was part of what made him so great, if you could deal with his attitude at least.

"Just get in the class, we have introductions to get through, and you have classes afterwards. I need to speak with the first years before introductions, so sit tight and no complaining." Yaga, at this point, had seemingly given up on trying to get through to Satoru and shooed the three second years away.

After they had entered a room down the hall, Yaga turned back to us, his expression once again turning serious as he seemed to be trying to look into our souls through those sunglasses of his.

"Alright, you three are the new students this year, so you'll be paired up for most missions and classes. I am Yaga Masamichi. You will refer to me as Yaga-Sensei. I will teach you how to use your cursed energy and best utilize your techniques in combat against curses and curse users. Any questions?" Despite how gruff he could be, there was no denying that Yaga knew what he was doing as a teacher, especially if he could deal with Satoru.

None of us raised our hands, so Yaga-Sensei continued. "Good, now the three of you will enter the class, introduce yourself and your technique. After that, once homeroom is finished, you'll be given your schedules." With that, he turned and walked towards the room the others had entered earlier, and we followed him close behind.

Entering the room, I heard the end of some conversation Satoru and Suguru had been involved in. They had taken their seats near the front, though the options were limited with so few seats available. Yaga-Sensei wasted no time and gestured for me to go first. Most likely because he knew that Satoru and the others had already met me.

"Hello, my name is Gojo Satoshi. I have no technique or cursed energy, but I am proficient in the use of cursed tools." I said there were shocked reactions from the other first years and, to a lesser degree, from Suguru and Shoko as they had been told a version of this information already by Satoru. The only other person who seemed unfazed besides Satoru was Yaga-Sensei. He had most likely been briefed on my restriction by the clan when I first showed interest in attending this school, likely in an attempt to get them to reject me. Unfortunately for them, Satoru had my back.

After my introduction, I took a seat to the left of Shoko, and the blond first-year student walked up. "My name is Nanami Kento, and my technique is called Ratio." He was very to the point, and quickly took a seat across from mine.

The last student came up with visible excitement in his movement. "Hello, my name is Haibara Yu, and I don't have a technique, but I do have one of these." With that, he caused something to appear. I couldn't see it clearly, but I could tell it was a shikigami of some kind, both from its presence and the reactions of the others in the room. I didn't know much about how shikigami worked apart from the ones utilised by the Ten Shadows technique, but I did know that other sorcerers could create them through effort and large amounts of cursed energy, as seen with Okkotsu Yuta and Tsukumo Yuki.

With that, Haibara also took a seat in the last available chair, and with all of the students ready, Yaga-Sensei began with the homeroom class, and yet I couldn't focus; I was too excited at the possibilities. Finally, I was going to enter the world of Jujutsu and get to take on missions to exorcise curses. I also was rapidly approaching my chance to change the fate of the world and prevent it from going down its dark path, but to do that I'd need this school's lessons to become stronger.
