Chapter 94 - Chapter 93 – The Silence

POV: Jay

The final bell rang.

Chairs scraped. Bags zipped. Section E exploded into noise as usual.

Keifer slung his bag over his shoulder and looked at me.

"I'll drop you home."

Before I could respond—

Ci-N jumped in. "Wait. Why don't we all go to Jay's house for group study?"

I froze.

"Ohhh no," I said immediately. "The last time we did group study at Yuri's house, we learned absolutely nothing."

Ci-N gasped dramatically. "Excuse me? We did learn something."

Felix nodded proudly. "Yeah. We learned friendship."

Blaster added, "And fun."

I stared at them.

"Academically?" I asked slowly.

Silence.

I turned to Keifer. "Wouldn't you say something?"

He adjusted his bag.

"I'm in."

My jaw dropped. "Seriously?"

Before I could argue further, Nathan and Hannah approached.

"We're leaving," Nathan said. "See you tomorrow."

Hannah gave me a small look. One of those careful looks.

"Be careful," she muttered softly before turning away.

They left.

Then Yuri suddenly cleared his throat.

"Um… guys… I just remembered I have some errands to run. So I can't join."

And before anyone could react—

He left.

Calix blinked. "Since when does Yuri Hanamitcchi run errands?"

No one answered.

I sighed. "Fine. Let's go

When we reached the house…

It was quiet.

Too quiet.

Usually at least Aunt Gemma would be home.

But today?

Nothing.

Strange.

The boys didn't hesitate. They walked in like they owned the place.

Straight to the kitchen.

Opening cabinets.

Looking for snacks.

Endrix and Rory were already recording everything.

"Welcome to Chaos House!" Rory announced dramatically into his phone.

"This is educational content," Endrix added.

Educational my foot.

The maid approached me quietly.

"Miss Jay, would you like anything?"

"Just… don't come here until I call you. Thanks."

She looked at the boys wrestling over juice cartons.

Then at me.

Shook her head.

And left.

I sank onto the couch.

Keifer came and sat beside me.

"So," he said casually, "you sure Angelo or Aries won't show up?"

"If Angelo or Aries come home and see this," I whispered, "you guys are dead."

He smirked. "Worth it."

I leaned back.

"You know this isn't even my house, right?"

Before he could respond—

David, who was surprisingly the only one actually studying, looked up.

"Where's Hex?"

My heart skipped.

"He… Hex… is with his mom."

Everyone paused.

Chairs stopped moving.

Blaster lowered the juice box.

Keifer frowned. "What? Trisha found out?"

"Yes."

"When?"

I swallowed.

"Yesterday."

Then I told them everything.

About Trisha showing up.

About the tension.

About Hex leaving.

When I finished, the room felt heavier.

"This doesn't seem right," Felix muttered.

"She must have a motive," Endrix added.

Ci-N suddenly gasped. "What if she found out Hex is super smart and wants to transfer his IQ into her other son's brain?"

Blaster immediately smacked him. "That's not possible!"

"Anything is possible!" Ci-N argued.

But I wasn't laughing.

What if…

What if she found out Hex is Night Byte?

What if she found out Hex is rich?

What if she found out everything?

A cold feeling slid down my spine.

I hadn't heard from him.

Not since yesterday morning.

I grabbed my phone.

Called him.

No answer.

I called again.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

Keifer noticed.

"What's wrong?"

I stood up.

Then I called Mila.

She answered quickly. "Hi Jay! How are you?"

"I'm fine. How's Hex?"

Silence.

"What do you mean?" Mila asked. "Hasn't Hex been coming to school?"

My stomach dropped.

"No… he hasn't?"

"No," she replied. "The teacher said Hex's guardian called and said he's ill."

Ill?

"What about Marco?" I asked quickly.

"Marco comes to school… but there's something a bit off about him."

My grip loosened.

The phone slipped from my hand.

It hit the floor.

The room blurred.

No.

No no no.

Something is wrong.

Voices surrounded me.

"Jay?"

"What happened?"

"Hey!"

David quickly picked up my phone.

"Okay, Mila. Thanks," he said calmly before ending the call.

Everyone was staring at me now.

I could hear my own heartbeat.

Too loud.

Too fast.

Hex isn't at school.

No answer.

Guardian called.

Marco acting strange.

This isn't just illness.

Something is very, very wrong.

And I have a bad feeling…

This is only the beginning.
