Chapter 39 - Exiled(2)

'Now that he said it, I do notice the difference.' Ren swept his gaze around the Inner Keep residences — or mansions if described better.

The roofs were lined with glazed tiles at the curved eaves. The doors were decorated with various guardian figures, and the walls were made from thick, grey bricks to provide security.

As he walked, Ren got a glimpse of the courtyard of one of the houses. It had a well-maintained stone path and a natural garden with ponds. Not to forget the pavilion inside it.

'Wait, are these dwellings not rummaged for food?' He narrowed his eyes as the suspicion sprouted in his head.

But it was too late for him to ask someone about it, for he was already thrown out.

'Sigh... First, let's figure out where to stay.' He stepped out of the Inner Keep as the guard swung open the massive door.

He turned back, just for a last glance. The gates closed before him slowly, and the sun had almost set completely.
