Chapter 20 - Something is wrong with Souichiro

In the courtyard of the Takagi family home.

Something bad was really going on.

"What are you trying to do?" Shiryu caught the wrist of one of Souichiro's subordinates who was trying to touch Rei.

Rei stepped back with a disgusted expression. Saeko and the other women were alert, they raised their respective weapons.

"Boy, you and the others will have to go through inspection like the other survivors. What if some of you have been bitten by the zombies? Don't try to prevent me from doing my job or you'll regret it!"

Although Shiryu's figure was no less than that of his leader, the soldier was fearless and confident after knowing the man in front of him was a high school boy.

Not only that, there were other soldiers around and would help him to control the situation.

Of course, it would be a lie if he said he was just performing his duties honestly. The appearance of Rei and the other women in Shiryu's group made him have evil intentions.

"Hey, wouldn't it be better for us to obey? They just want to check us out, right?" Ishigami looked at the soldiers holding firearms around them with fear.

"I was thinking the same thing as you, Ishigami. But..."

Shirogane agreed with what Ishigami said.

Kaguya happened to hear that and couldn't help but look at him in disappointment, "President, you really don't mind those men touching me and the other women?"

"No, that's not what I meant, Shinomiya. You misunderstand..."

Shirogane panicked, he just wanted them to settle the matter peacefully. However, he did not expect his comment to make Kaguya misunderstand.

Kaguya wondered if she was in love with the right man?

Compared to Shiryu who was now trying to protect them, Shirogane was like a coward.

"Are you blind? None of us look like zombies. We're fine and no, you can't touch them."

"If you want to insist, I will personally make you all regret not being able to control your lust for the women in my group."

Shiryu tightened his grip on the arm of the man in front of him.

"You— ahh! My hand! Damn boy, let go of me right now!"

The soldier was angry, but soon, he was screaming in pain and immediately kneeled in front of Shiryu.

However, Shiryu refused to let go and looked down on him with a cold gaze.

*Crack!*

He broke one of the soldier's arms.

The sound startled the spectators and the other soldiers.

"Aaahhhh!"

The soldier let out a loud scream and rolled on the ground.

Shiryu had removed his hand and now, he looked at the soldiers around him.

"Boy, you're too domineering in the wrong place."

"You think this is a school?"

"I'll give you a lesson in respecting your elders."

Some of them were about to attack him with weapons in their hands.

Of course, they were not stupid enough to shoot the friend of their leader's daughter.

They just wanted to hit him until he cried.

However, Shiryu was indifferent. Even if they shot, he was still confident to dodge their attacks and make a swift counterattack.

With the buff of the Blood Pointer, he felt capable of doing that. He was ready to break their arms and legs. But unfortunately, at that moment...

"What is this commotion!? All of you, stop!"

Souichiro came to the scene.

He was like a tiger intimidating everyone except Shiryu. His piercing gaze was enough to make his subordinates bow their heads.

He saw one of his subordinates rolling on the ground with an expression of pain.

Then, his gaze fell on Shiryu and the many women in his group who were making defensive postures with weapons in their hands.

"What's going on?"

"L-Leader, this boy broke one of my arms and forbade us to check on the women in his group!"

The injured soldier complained like a child while pointing at Shiryu with his other hand.

Souichiro frowned, he walked up to Shiryu and was slightly surprised that his figure was as tall as he was.

His muscles looked even more warrior-like than those of his subordinates. To be able to break one of his subordinates' hands, he must not be an ordinary boy.

"Are you Shiryu? The boy whose name was mentioned by my daughter?"

"My full name is Sou Shiryu and yes. I don't know how Saya talked about me to her father, but the person she's referring to is definitely me."

"It's really you... You also seem to know me. But let me introduce myself, my name is Souichiro Takagi. I'm the leader of this place."

Souichiro admired Shiryu's calmness as they spoke, he continued to look into his eyes without fear.

"Is what my subordinates say true? You broke one of his hands just because..."

Shiryu interrupted the man in front of him, "Just because he tried to touch the women in my group? That's right. So Souichiro-san, are you angry and seeking revenge just because I taught one of your unruly subordinates a lesson?"

Honestly, Saya's father was strong.

In a battle of skills, he was not sure he could beat her. But, he had a Blood Pointer and was confident his physical strength surpassed hers.

Whether it be strength, speed, endurance and even super regeneration...

Borrowing Captain America's words and changing them slightly.

'Even if you're more skilled than me, I can fight all day.'

Shiryu was not worried.

"Boy, you're sassy!"

"Leader, let us teach this boy a painful lesson!"

Some of the soldiers were not happy with what he said.

Souichiro looked at them and said, "Shut up!"

"....." The soldiers immediately fell silent.

The refugees including those in Shiryu's group continued to watch. Saeko, Rei and the other women hoped Shiryu would be okay.

But the rest? Many of them especially the men hoped that Shiryu would be beaten up. They didn't hate him, and were just jealous that he was so handsome and surrounded by beautiful women.

This is the dark side of humanity.

Some people are happy when they see others who are better than them suffering.

Incidentally, one of them is the protagonist Takashi! He was among the crowd of refugees and quietly watching everything that was happening.

He grinned and wished Shiryu to suffer!

"This boy is the one who saved my daughter. So, I won't let you hurt him and his group members."

"And do you think I'm stupid? They look fine and uninfected, they don't need to be examined. Control yourselves, soldiers!"

Souichiro was disappointed in his subordinates who lusted after the women in Shiryu's group.

Among them was even the daughter of his master.

He certainly could not let her suffer because of his undisciplined subordinates.

The soldiers scolded by Souichiro bowed their heads.

"Tsk!" Takashi clicked his tongue.

He didn't notice Shiryu glancing at him out of the corner of his eye. Instead of being upset that the protagonist of Highschool of the Dead was still alive, he was excited.

He even spotted Junichi and Kohta among the crowd. Before this, they seemed to have managed to find the shelter Souichiro had built.

It must be due to the luck the protagonist had.

By the way, why was he excited?

That's a secret.

System-chan: This guy is excited to give green hats to the protagonists and other male characters. He has developed a bad hobby.

Is it too late to put him back on the right path?

It seems so.

"Shiryu, I'll overlook what you did to my subordinate this time because he deserves it. But, don't get yourself into trouble with them first."

Souichiro said that while looking at Shiryu with a serious gaze.

Shiryu casually said, "I'm a good citizen and a pacifist. Unless they provoke me, I won't beat them."

Hearing this, Souichiro did not know what to say.

He changed the topic, "For now, you and your group can come with me."

Shiryu did not refuse.

The people in his group naturally followed him.

Souichiro was relieved, he felt that the boy was troublesome. With such strength, personality and appearance. He was also worried about Saya liking him.

The problem was that he was surrounded by other women including the daughter of his master.

What he didn't know was that it was too late. Shiryu had stolen his daughter's heart before coming here.

On the way, Souichiro tells them that they can stay in the empty rooms in his house for a while.

Ishigami, Shirogane and the girls in the group were delighted. They were clearly receiving special treatment.

And it was because of Shiryu!

Or rather, his and Saya's relationship so far. Even so, his previous heroic actions increased the girls' favorable impression of him.

Tsubame often even looked at the side of Shiryu's face with an ambiguous gaze. Ishigami noticed this, and suddenly felt uncomfortable.

Soon, they entered the luxurious mansion and in the living room, they met Saya and her mother.

Both of them welcomed them.

Yuriko introduced herself. Unlike her husband, Souichiro. She was very friendly and approachable.

Shiryu was busy watching the beautiful and sexy woman with purple hair in front of him. He certainly knew her from the original work, and that was why he was interested in coming here.

"You must be Shiryu, thank you for saving my daughter and taking her back to her home."

"I have heard many things about you from her. You are very handsome and your figure is no less than my husband's."

"Fufu, no wonder Saya likes you."

Yuriko laughed like a mother seeing her future son-in-law for the first time.

Souichiro frowned and glared at Shiryu.

Really?

His daughter likes this boy!?

Shiryu ignored the piercing gaze of his future father-in-law.

By the way, Yuriko's chest was very large and her figure was very curvaceous. The thin red dress, the white cloth wrapped around her arms and mid to lower body didn't help either.

He could see the cleavage of her beautiful breasts.

Tsk, tsk. Souichiro, you're lucky.

[Host, she already has a husband. Don't tell me you want...]

System-chan, stop second guessing your host's intentions.

You think I'm the one who would do that?

[Yes.]

"....." Shiryu.

In his heart, he denied, okay?

"Mom! Who likes this perverted man!? I-I don't!"

Saya, aren't you tired of being a tsundere?

You missed a good chance to join my harem officially without making a night attack.

Shiryu was disappointed.

Yuriko shook her head. How could she not know that her daughter was a tsundere?

She looked at the handsome boy in front of her with an apologetic look. Still, there was also curiosity in her heart.

How did the boy in front of her have such a good figure?

She even felt her husband's figure was inferior to him.

If Shiryu became her son-in-law, she did not mind at all.

"Yuriko, stop joking about Saya." Souichiro reprimanded his wife.

Yuriko fell silent. Who was joking?

Her husband was a man who was insensitive to women's feelings. Before they got married in the past, she even had trouble because of that.

"Ano... Can I ask you something? Souichiro-san, Yuriko-san."

At that moment, Kaguya suddenly spoke up.

Shiryu and the others looked at her curiously.

"Of course, girl. What do you want to ask?" Yuriko thought Kaguya was also her daughter's friend.

But if not, she still wouldn't mind answering her question.

Kaguya politely introduced herself, "My name is Kaguya Shinomiya, I wonder if you could contact my family?"

"Shinomiya?" Not only Yuriko, Souichiro was also surprised.

"You are the daughter of the Shinomiya Group?" Souichiro asked to confirm Kaguya's identity.

He certainly knew about one of the richest conglomerate families in his country.

The Shinomiya family background was even higher than the Takagi family.

"Yes." Kaguya nodded.

"This..." Yuriko glanced at her husband.

She also knew about the Shinomiya Group.

But the problem was...

Souichiro said, "Unfortunately no, the EMP explosion on the first day when this disaster started also knocked out the electricity and internet network in this place. We can't help you contact your family."

Instead of being disappointed, Kaguya looked happy, "It's fine, I just asked and didn't expect too much."

What's wrong with this girl?

She seemed to be happy that she had no way to contact her family.

Yuriko and the others were confused.

Shiryu had a guess and took out his diary.

[We have arrived at the shelter built by Saya's father, Souichiro Takagi. I have also met his wife. Is Yuriko really Saya's mother? She still looks quite young and beautiful.]

[If I didn't know the original work, I would have thought she was Saya's older sister and pursued her.]

The heroines: Hmm... Shiryu, you do realize that you're praising someone else's wife, right?

Saya glanced at Shiryu suspiciously.

There's no way he's interested in her mother, right?

If he did...

[Still, Yuriko is one of the women who will die from the zombie pandemic in the future. She could have survived, but she was so stubborn to fight the zombies that broke into the shelter with her husband, Souichiro.]

[Her death left Saya devastated. If possible, I wanted to save her. But the problem is, she's too devoted to her husband.]

[As long as Souichiro wanted to continue protecting refugees he didn't even know, he would sacrifice his subordinates and his wife.]

[The man himself was too devoted to his country, and never prioritized the safety of his family.]

[As proof, he did not send any of his subordinates to search for his daughter before I delivered her back to him.]

[Souichiro doesn't know how to cherish his wife and daughter.]

Shiryu wasn't lying, but also adding a bit of spice to his writing.

Unfortunately, Yuriko didn't seem to have a copy of his diary. But that's okay, Saya read what he wrote and her face looked grim.

Because of that, she became even more dissatisfied with her father.

She was also panicking, how could she let her parents especially her mother whom she cared about so much die!?

She didn't want the future that Shiryu said to happen.

For that, she was willing to do anything. But, what could she do?

Shiryu refrained from grinning and continued writing.

"What are you writing, Shiryu?" Yuriko asked curiously.

Unlike the copies of the diaries the heroines had, Shiryu's diary could still be seen by others.

However, those people would not be able to see its true contents. In their eyes, it was just like an ordinary diary.

"It's just a hobby of mine, I was a novelist before this and often write down new ideas I get so that I don't forget in the future."

Shiryu naturally lied.

The lips of the girls in his group twitched.

"Oh, you're a novelist? You're a high school boy, but you can already make your own money. That's good."

Yuriko praised her future son-in-law, her favorable impression of him increasing by another three points.

Shiryu humbly said, "I'm still a beginner and haven't made too much money yet."

"Is a budding novelist capable of making over 100 million yen and spending it casually?" Saeko didn't ask, she seemed to be uttering sarcasm.

Yuriko widened her eyes and covered her mouth with one of her hands.

The girls of Shuichiin Academy including Kaguya also looked at her with admiration.

Shiryu was a little embarrassed.

My wife, Saeko. Good job!

"He also renovated his house into a fortress-like defense."

Yui added while glancing at him flatly.

Oh, are you also interested in becoming my wife, Yui?

You seem to really dislike Junichi's protagonist again.

Shiryu was pleased.

"You renovated your house to be like that, Shiryu? That's amazing. That means, you also have a shelter."

Yuriko became more admiring of her future son-in-law.

Saya suddenly felt proud, like she was showing off her future husband to her parents.

Souichiro didn't even expect Shiryu to do the same with him. I'm talking about building a shelter to help the survivors.

His impression of him became good.

Shiryu didn't realize that.

[Speaking of Kaguya, she doesn't seem to like her family very much. But that's natural. Many people don't know, but since childhood, she was like a bird locked up in a silver cage.]

[For some reason, her status in the Shinomiya family is not as good as her other siblings.]

[She didn't have as much freedom as other girls to do things.]

[That's why when the zombie pandemic appeared, she seemed to feel the freedom she always wanted.]

[This girl... From now on, she seems to be reluctant to return to her home and prefers to go on adventures.]

Kaguya was dumbfounded.

Shiryu guessed her feelings correctly. Other than Hayasaka, he was the one who knew her best.

Suddenly, her heart beat faster and the way she looked at the boy was similar to the way she looked at Shirogane before the zombie pandemic started.

Even so, she herself did not realize it.

Soon, Yuriko offered to escort them to each of the bedrooms they could stay in.

But before that, Souichiro suddenly called out to Saeko.

"Saeko, wait a moment."

"Souichiro-san, you know me?"

Saeko looked at Saya's father with a strange look.

Shiryu did not immediately leave with the others and stood beside her. That made everyone stay with him.

There was no way he would leave his woman alone with another man.

Yuriko also felt strange. What did her husband want from his daughter's friend?

Feeling everyone's gaze, Souichiro's lips twitched.

"Yes, you may not know, but I am a former disciple of your father— Master Busujima."

"Oh." Saeko's reaction was lukewarm. "So, what does Souichiro-san want from me?"

"That..." Souichiro did not expect Saeko to be unenthusiastic about knowing he was her father's former disciple. "I just wanted to greet you and since you are the daughter of my master. I certainly want to treat you well."

"No need to bother, I appreciate your kindness but... Please treat me like Shiryu-kun and the others."

At that moment, Shiryu updated the contents of his diary again.

Saeko saw that and couldn't help but feel disgusted at Souichiro.

[I'd almost forgotten if I hadn't seen this scene myself. Not only was Souichiro overly devoted to his country, he was also very devoted to his master who had taught him swordsmanship, Master Busujima.]

[Therefore, when he saw Saeko coming to his shelter with the group of protagonists in the original work.]

[He treated her very well, even better than the way he treated his own daughter and wife.]

[And that's only because she's the daughter of his master. But, I don't know if I'm remembering wrong... In the past, Souichiro had promised his master that he would protect his daughter and help her if she was in any trouble. If possible, he wouldn't even mind marrying her so that he could take good care of her.]

The heroines: !!!

Saya: Wh-What!? My dad actually said that!?

[I want to say does this guy not care about the hefty age difference between him and Saeko?]

[He can be her father!]

[In life, I certainly wouldn't let Souichiro get too close to Saeko. Yuriko is also pathetic... I feel like she has a green hat.]

Yuriko didn't know the interesting things Shiryu wrote, but she felt a little uncomfortable when she saw her husband treat Saeko so gently.

She couldn't remember when he treated his own wife in such a way.
