Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Family Moves to the City

The morning sun bathed the streets of Luoyang in a warm glow as Madame Li adjusted her wide-brimmed hat. Her five daughters chattered excitedly in the carriage behind her, each one dreaming of the day they might finally meet a worthy husband.

Li Yuan, the eldest, fussed over the youngest, smoothing her hair and checking her attire. "Mother, do you really think we'll find suitable matches in the city?"

Madame Li smiled, a mixture of hope and determination on her face. "Luoyang is crowded, yes, but it is also full of opportunities. A clever mother finds clever husbands for clever daughters."

The carriage rattled over the cobbled streets, drawing curious glances from townspeople. Each of the five daughters had her own charm:

Li Yuan, calm and intelligent, always thinking two steps ahead

Li Mei, lively and playful, impossible to ignore

Li Hua, gentle and graceful, like a flower in bloom

Li Fen, witty and sharp-tongued, always ready with a joke

Li Rong, shy yet perceptive, observing everything silently

As they arrived at the city gates, a wave of excitement swept over the family. The streets were bustling with merchants shouting, food stalls cooking, and performers showing off their skills. For the first time, the daughters saw the possibility of a life far beyond their quiet home.

Madame Li clutched the reins and addressed her daughters firmly. "We will open our new tea house here. It will be a place where merchants, scholars, and travelers come together. And while we build our fortune, each of you will meet the life you deserve."

The daughters exchanged nervous glances. A mix of excitement and fear danced in their eyes. None of them knew what challenges awaited in this busy, chaotic city.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted near the street corner. A young man had tripped and spilled a basket of oranges onto the ground. The girls giggled, and Madame Li's eyes narrowed, not at the man, but at the opportunity hiding in this bustling marketplace.

"This city," she murmured to herself, "is full of possibilities… and we will take them all."

As they stepped down from the carriage, a mysterious figure watched from across the street, his expression unreadable. One thought crossed Madame Li's mind: Luoyang may be full of people, but only the clever will thrive.

And somewhere deep in her heart, she knew: the family's life was about to change forever.
