Chapter 24 - A Late Night Call

It was a clear night.

Stars shimmered across the dark sky, and the moon glowed so vividly that even the faint markings on its surface were visible. The sky was spotless, just as it had been throughout the day, not a single cloud drifting across it.

I was sitting on one of the chairs outside that familiar convenience store.

It had been a while since I finished my part time job, and I had already been sitting here for some time.

A drink rested loosely in my hand. I had emptied more than half of it by now, yet I remained where I was, waiting. Waiting as if, given enough time, someone might suddenly call my name.

It wasn't that I had anything planned for the night.

What I had instead was a small, unspoken hope. That if I stayed here a little longer, someone might appear. That someone might start a conversation with me.

I took another sip and glanced down at my phone.
