Chapter 59 - He Had No One

My hand slowed before it stopped.

I hadn't even realized I had stopped wiping. A heavy sigh escaped me as I leaned over the table, my weight supported by my palms.

My mind was a wreck. The event from last night refused to leave me.

I really should have known.

I stared at the diner's sign, frowning as I checked the address on my phone one more time.

"... That's strange."

The place was big and clean, brightened by the colorful lights.

"What are you standing around for?"

I turned. Alex brushed past me without stopping and pushed the door open.

"Wait! We're actually eating here?" I called out, breaking into a light jog to catch the door before it swung shut.

"No, we're here to smell the food."

I was stunned as he clicked his tongue before a smile formed on my lips.

"I'm just confused. You've never asked me out to dinner before, and now you're bringing me here?"
