Chapter 4 - Damian’s Regrets

Damian's pov:

I stood in Sofia's room, staring at the door she'd just slammed behind her. My wolf, King, spoke up, his voice l loud and low in my head.

You did this, you made her hate us and not want to have us as mates.

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I know, I know. And I'm trying to, I'm going to make things work out. But let's face it, King it wasn't really my fault. You knew why we needed to act that way. We had our reasons.

How were we supposed to know she was going to end up being our mate? King growled, his frustration evident.

It doesn't matter. I want you to fix this and make sure that our mate accepts us and doesn't reject us, Damian. If our mate rejects us, I promise I'm going to tell the Moon Goddess to remove me from you. I don't want to have a human counterpart like you weak and spineless.

His words stung, but I knew he was right. I had stood by and watched them hurt her, break her, say mean things and do mean things to her. And I'd done nothing.

"Break up with Vanessa as soon as possible," King demanded. "I want only my mate."

Immediately, my wolf blocked me, going deeper into our shared mind. I was confused, frustrated.

Can't believe Sofia ended up being my mate. As much as I'm surprised that she ended up being my mate, I've always had this soft spot for her. I was a coward for not really standing up for her and protecting her.

But it wasn't how it might seem...

Sofia and I used to be friends when we were much younger, even closer than I was to Vanessa. But everything changed when I was twelve years old, after I was told to stay away from her. Which I did.

I felt a mix of confusion, hurt, and regret as I headed downstairs. When I got downstairs, I met my two best friends, Josh and Mark.

Mark is to be my future beta and Josh my German.

"Hey, buddy, you look down," Josh said, concern etched on his face. "What's up, are you okay? You've been off since last night."

Mark nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I noticed it too. Is everything cool?"

I hesitated, unsure how to process my thoughts. "I don't know, guys. The thing is... I found my mate."

Josh's eyes widened. "Really? The future Luna, the one I'm to protect? Who is she?"

Josh grinned. "So I can start up my protecting skills as her protector."

I sighed, trying to process the news myself. "It's... Sofia."

Their expressions changed, surprise and curiosity etched on their faces.

"As in... the omega Sofia?" Mark asked, clarifying.

I nodded, feeling a knot in my stomach.

Josh whispered, "Damn, Damian. That's... unexpected.".

"Yeah, it's unexpected, guys," I said, running a hand through my hair. "She hates me. She doesn't want to have anything to do with me. She's insisting on us rejecting each other, and when I told her that we're not going to reject each other, she was pissed."

Josh's eyes widened in surprise. "Demi, hope you didn't use your alpha command on your mate not to reject you?"

I hesitated, feeling a twinge of guilt. "Maybe... I did."

Mark's expression turned incredulous. "Demi, how could you use your alpha command on her? That's not how it's supposed to work."

Josh shook his head. If she wants to reject you, Damian, you can't stop her. It is the law.If I were in her shoes, I'd probably want to reject you too.

I growled, my frustration evident. Josh said after what you did to her and let them do to her, ... you're not worthy of being her mate.

I felt a knot in my stomach. "I know, I know. I'm going to fix things, but rejection is out of the way. King threatened to abandon me if our mate rejects us."

Mark's expression turned serious. "Demi, we're in this together. We're the future leaders of the pack and it's time we set things right. We need to tell our parents about this.

I nodded, feeling a sense of determination. "Yeah, I'm going to tell my dad after school. And I need to break up with Vanessa."

Josh snorted. "About time, dude. We never really liked her anyway."

I smiled wily. "Yeah, I never really liked her. I was just... stuck.

Mark chuckled. "Well, at least one thing is going right. Your mate is Sofia. That's... something.

I smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "Yeah, thank the moon goddess for that."

Just then, I remembered something. My eyes widened in alarm. "Shit, guys, we need to go fast! I scolded Vanessa this morning to stay away from Sofia. She's going to take it out on her in school. You know how she gets shit..

We immediately rushed into our cars, driving my G63 AMG, Josh driving his Lamborghini Sport, and Mark driving his Ferrari Sport. We sped through the streets, my heart racing with anxiety.

as we pulled up to the school gate, a sprawling complex of buildings and grounds. Mystic Falls Academy was a school for supernatural beings vampires, werewolves, witches, dragon shifters, bear shifters... you name it.

We pulled up to the school, and I spotted a crowd gathered near the entrance. My heart sank as I saw Sofia on the ground, being beaten by a group of school bullies.

A powerful growl escaped my lips, and my alpha aura flared, glowing with an intense light. Everybody submitted, taking a step back in fear.

"GET. OFF. HER," I snarled, my voice low and menacing, echoing through the school grounds. The ground shook beneath my feet as I strode towards the bullies.

The bullies scattered, and Sofia looked up at me, her eyes flashing with anger and defiance. I could see the pain and humiliation etched on her face, and it fueled my rage.
