Chapter 282 : wedding
Uchiha Karin and Aburame Jiku were really getting married.
The two had been through a lot during the war, and their feelings had quickly deepened.
As soon as the war ended, Aburame Jiku decisively proposed to Karin, and she happily accepted.
As for whether he would marry into her family… Karin still felt a little bad for Jiku, so after some discussion, the young couple decided to move out and live on their own. Neither of them would have to change their surname.
If they had children in the future, they would first take the Aburame surname, and if they awakened the Sharingan, they would change back to Uchiha and be entered into the family registry.
After all, the Aburame Clan's Insect Ninjutsu could most likely be learned, but whether the Sharingan could be awakened depended solely on talent and luck.
Marrying outside the clan was a big deal, so it definitely had to be reported to the elders and clan heads of both sides.
Fugaku was delighted by this. At Naraku's suggestion, he very graciously offered to be the officiant for the new couple.
He even discussed it with the Aburame Clan Head, inviting him to attend as well.
Karin and Jiku were, of course, overjoyed and endlessly grateful.
Since they wanted to set an example, Fugaku simply allocated a portion of the clan's public funds specifically to host a grand wedding, hoping that everyone in Konoha would know about it.
Even if Ninja and civilians didn't know the new couple and didn't have an invitation, as long as they contributed a gift, they could enter the banquet and join in the festivities.
This turned out well; on the day of the wedding, it was packed with people. The Uchiha and Aburame responsible forReception were so busy their pens were almost smoking, and they couldn't even get a drink of water.
The two Clan Heads were reliable and quickly called in a few more people to help temporarily, which relieved a lot of pressure.
After Naraku and Kakashi handed in their wedding gifts, they entered and froze on the spot. Over a hundred tables were set up in the spacious banquet hall, all packed with people.
Fortunately, Fugaku and Mikoto had already reserved seats for them, which prevented the embarrassment of not being able to eat.
Naraku and Kakashi were pulled by Mikoto to sit in the front, and Little Itachi was placed in Naraku's arms to play with.
Naraku was pinching Little Itachi's chubby hand, tickling him, when he turned his head and saw another table a few meters away filled with familiar faces, some of whom were waving at him and Kakashi.
There were Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru, disguised and stealthily sneaking in for a meal; Shizune and Rin, who continued to exchange gossip after greeting them; Kushina and Kana, who were openly present and didn't even bother to dye their hair; Minato, who was clearly accompanying his girlfriend to join the fun; and… huh?
-- Who was that man sitting next to Kana?
-- Why were they sitting together? What plot did I miss?
-- Oh no! Has my cabbage been snatched by a pig?
Although Naraku had never thought of preventing Kana from dating, wasn't this progressing a bit too fast?
As Karin's mother in the original timeline, what if Kana was also an extreme 'love-brain' and was deceived emotionally and physically by a scoundrel?
Naraku narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing the man, planning to privately ask Kushina tonight about who this guy was.
He would also have Fugaku's subordinates investigate the scoundrel who dared to 'steal' from his family, turning him inside out.
Kakashi squeezed Naraku's fingers, reminding him to focus: "Are you very concerned?"
"...Yes." Naraku nodded slightly, explaining, "Sister Kana seems very easy to fool."
Kakashi's head was full of black lines.
-- Kana easy to fool? Do you even hear yourself?
-- The Uzumaki Clan's Sensing Ninjutsu is almost like a lie detector, isn't it?
-- Sure enough, Naraku, this idiot, is just worried sick.
But he just found such a silly Naraku inexplicably cute and couldn't help but want to make him happy.
"Hmm, if this person isn't good, we'll go bag him together."
Little Itachi didn't quite understand, but instinctively felt his older brothers were talking about something interesting, and clapped his little hands loudly: "Bag! Bag him! Hehe!"
Mikoto, who had been secretly listening to the two brothers' whispers the entire time, couldn't help but laugh: "Oh, Little Itachi is a warm-hearted little man now, isn't he~"
Naraku affectionately ruffled Little Itachi's hair and continued to look around for other people he knew.
He didn't know until he looked, and when he did, he was shocked.
Almost everyone Naraku knew or recognized was present.
Except for a few Clan Heads who were too high-ranking to appear in person, most of their heirs were there, sitting in very prominent positions.
The best wingman, Fujiwara Yuichi, had his wish of having a table to himself fulfilled, sitting proudly in the front, not caring at all that he was being watched by many people.
Might Guy and his father, in their green jumpsuits, were also there, sitting a bit off to the side. Naraku, relying on his astonishing eyesight, noticed that there was no support under their buttocks.
Even so, the father and son remained as steady as mountains, showing not the slightest tremor.
Naraku looked further afield and even saw the "Small, Medium, Large" trio, his temporary teammates from the Chunin Exams.
They were probably just there to eat and soak up some good luck.
The fact that these three had gone through such a brutal Third Great Ninja War and none of them were missing had to mean they had some skill.
Looking in another direction, closer to Naraku, Shisui's family and relatives occupied one table. Nearby were Kazuki, Tsuki, and Hibiki's families.
Continuing to look further, it was all Uchiha clustered together in that area.
The Uchiha Clan really showed up for this wedding; most who could come brought their whole families.
In this sea of black hair, Naraku also found the sisters Akari and Shizuku, as well as most of the new generation who had trained on the Eastern Front.
Kakashi, meanwhile, saw his Ninja Academy classmates in another direction, gave a simple nod in greeting, and then refocused his attention on Naraku.
At eleven in the morning, the wedding officially began.
Fugaku and the Aburame Clan Head, as the officiants, first expressed their blessings to the new couple. Afterward, the young couple successively vowed their fidelity, exchanged rings, and toasted all the guests.
After completing this, Aburame Jiku, who had always been accustomed to being quiet and low-key, was sweating profusely.
He forced himself to smile throughout the entire event, smiling until his face was stiff, which made Karin a little amused.
Although the process was arduous, this ceremony, witnessed by over a thousand people and blessed by half of Konoha, was enough to add a significant and colorful chapter to the young couple's short twenty-odd years of life.
Perhaps even in their old age, they would still recount this precious memory to their children and grandchildren, reminiscing about the happiness and joy they once felt.
Once the formalities were over, the entire venue immediately filled with the sounds of talking, chatting, and people eating with their heads down. It seemed everyone was quite hungry.
Minato picked up a piece of meat for Kushina, and was suddenly asked a question by Tsunade that made him blush.
"I say, Minato, you two aren't young anymore. When are you planning to get married?"
Kushina, who feared nothing, also blushed: "Sister Tsunade, we're not in a hurry yet…"
"You're both over twenty and not in a hurry? How long are you planning to drag this out?"
"Exactly, exactly. This should be done sooner rather than later."
Jiraiya swallowed the sake in his mouth: "Minato, Tsunade and I will be leaving in a while. It would be such a shame if we missed your wedding. Right, Orochimaru?"
"Indeed," Orochimaru was excellent at fanning the flames, "Not even getting to eat your own student's wedding feast, as a teacher, Jiraiya, you're quite a failure."
Minato gave a dry laugh, breaking into a sweat: "We will, we will…"
Kushina & Minato: Why did I crave this meal back then?!
The young couple, Minato and Kushina, were urged so much that they finished eating and quickly made their escape, off to some unknown place to talk and express their love.
Kana had noticed early on that Naraku was constantly looking in their direction. Feeling guilty, she didn't dare to make any intimate gestures with her "boyfriend." As soon as she was full, she quickly put down her chopsticks and urged him to leave, afraid of being caught by her younger brother on the spot.
This matter had happened so suddenly. She had only discussed it with Kushina and hadn't yet figured out how to tell Naraku.
Who knew the Uchiha would arrange her so close to Naraku? There was no way to hide.
Seeing Kana actually avoiding him, Naraku almost snapped his chopsticks.
-- Holy cow! Kana is definitely a 'love-brain,' no doubt about it!
-- The guy who snatched my cabbage, you're dead!
-- Prepare to face the Uchiha version of a 'bounty hunt'!
Feeling the subtle low pressure around him, Kakashi silently hugged Little Itachi in his arms, observing a minute of silence for the brave warrior who dared to steal Kana's heart…
The end.
