Chapter Eighteen: Flirting
A little later.
The sky's scenery changed.
Under the red, beautiful sunset—
"Hello~ handsome."
An energetic female voice approached.
Hayashi Yoshiki had just finished his shooting practice for the day and had not long left the Organization's secret firing range when he was approached.
He wasn't surprised; he simply showed an elegant smile:
"May I help you?"
"Uh, ah..."
The girl who approached suddenly lost her confidence.
Hayashi Yoshiki's eyes looked at her.
She was a hot girl type.
She had dyed, quite beautiful, long blonde hair, fair skin, and makeup. Although she wore a regular school uniform, she had unilaterally altered it to the point of being on the edge of school regulations. Both her sparkling phone case and the small stickers on her face fully adorned her personality.
"Are you interested in karaoke?"
"I'm sorry, but unfortunately, I'm not good at singing."
"...Alright."
Then how about going for bubble tea?
—She was about to ask that, but looking at that excessively handsome face, the hot girl suddenly lost her nerve before the words left her mouth.
Hayashi Yoshiki was still smiling.
"But may I ask why you approached me?"
"Why would you need a reason to flirt with a handsome guy?"
She mumbled, and realizing her attempt to flirt had failed, she left straightforwardly.
Hayashi Yoshiki, left standing there, glanced at the time on his watch, ignored the middle-aged man walking past him, and calmly concluded:
"I see. Although she approached me according to what I wrote, it was essentially an action she made out of her own free will."
"Tomoya Tozawa"
"March 28th, 5:47 PM, passing by the Beika Imperial Bank entrance, saw a hot girl who just got out of school flirting with a boy carrying a shopping bag."
"April 16th, 10:08 PM, angered by Michiko Miyazaki, a conflict arose between them. He cut Michiko Miyazaki's throat with a knife and escaped."
"April 17th, 3:17 PM, during the process of being apprehended by the Police, he accidentally fell from the rooftop and died."
However, just a few sentences can control a person's every action and life...
The death note is incredibly useful.
Through the girl's flirting just now, Hayashi Yoshiki now understood more about using the death note as a "script."
Although there are still many things to test, let's call it a day for now.
Furthermore, the arrangements for Tozawa and Michiko Miyazaki's causes of death were also intentionally made by Hayashi Yoshiki.
After all, whether they were gang members or criminals, if too many people died unexpectedly during this period, it might attract the attention of some sensitive individuals... A few cases like these, where they "mutually eliminate" each other, are the least conspicuous...
"Buzz~! Buzz~!"
His phone received a text message at this moment.
The sender was Yoko Okino's agent, Yamagishi Sakae:
"Hayashi-sensei, is this Detective Kogoro Mouri you recommended really reliable?"
The question came very directly.
Upon seeing it, Hayashi Yoshiki, holding his phone, didn't know how to reply for a moment.
After thinking for a moment, he composed a text message:
"Have Yamagishi-san and Miss Yoko already been to the Mouri Detective Agency?"
Soon after he sent it, a reply came.
Yamagishi Sakae: "Yes, Miss Yoko and I are at the Detective Agency now, but I somehow feel that this Detective Mouri is a bit rash."
Yamagishi Sakae: "But Miss Yoko said that since he was recommended by you, Hayashi-sensei..."
Hayashi Yoshiki: "Perhaps that's just his characteristic."
Although he said that, seeing how Kogoro Mouri left such an unreliable impression on his employer after just one meeting, Hayashi Yoshiki didn't know how to describe it.
Yamagishi Sakae: "Alright, Miss Yoko has decided to entrust it to Detective Mouri."
Hayashi Yoshiki: "Okay, if anything happens, you can also let me know."
The conversation ended here for now.
Seeing that it was still relatively early, Hayashi Yoshiki began to consider dinner.
Eri-aunt always worked late on Mondays, so at that time, she would usually be thinking about a late-night snack.
Let's just grab something to eat now...
However, just as Hayashi Yoshiki casually found a restaurant and ordered, Yamagishi Sakae's call came in.
"Lin, Hayashi-sensei, there's a body in Miss Yoko's residence!!!"
"Do you need me to come over and take a look?"
"Yes, yes! Then I'll trouble you!"
Yamagishi Sakae's speech on the other end became hurried.
After he and Yoko Okino formally entrusted the case to Kogoro Mouri, they decided to return to Yoko Okino's residence to check for traces of the stalker. As soon as they opened the door, they found a male corpse lying in the living room!
The shocking scene made Yoko Okino scream on the spot.
Yamagishi Sakae, even more flustered, pulled out his phone and called Hayashi Yoshiki—although there was a Detective beside him, he always felt that this guy was not very reliable.
"Yoko, Hayashi-sensei said he's coming over now."
"Okay..."
"Who are you talking about? No! We should call the Police immediately!"
"Oh, oh! You're right—"
At Kogoro Mouri's reminder, the few of them belatedly remembered to call the Police.
While Ran Mouri was calling the Police, the little kid next to them—Conan Edogawa, who was Shinichi Kudo—was frowning and observing the corpse lying in the living room. As he habitually approached to observe carefully,
"Ah!!!!!"
The piercing scream made the adults present turn their heads, only to find that several little kids had somehow secretly snuck into the apartment and were so scared they fell to the ground the moment they saw the corpse.
"Where did these brats come from?!" Kogoro Mouri roared.
"Conan!"
Ran Mouri quickly pulled Conan back. Seeing this, Kogoro Mouri immediately gave him an iron fist to the head.
Bang!
Conan's eyes instantly saw stars.
Kogoro Mouri, retracting his hand, then looked up and asked, "Who is this Hayashi-sensei you were just talking about?"
"Huh? Mr. Mouri, you don't know?" Yoko Okino looked at Kogoro Mouri in surprise. "Actually, we came to you upon Hayashi-sensei's recommendation."
The latter was even more confused now.
Ran Mouri couldn't quite stand it: "Dad, didn't you read the newspaper today?"
"Oh, I woke up early this morning and drank...
Uh! No, I just woke up late and forgot to read it!"
"So you were drunk again early this morning?!"
"No, no! I only had a tiny bit!"
Kogoro Mouri chuckled awkwardly, cornered by a furious Ran Mouri, who advanced on him step by step. He glanced at Yoko Okino, seeing the elder flustered and scolded by his daughter.
It's better to wait for Hayashi-sensei to arrive.
His eyes conveyed that meaning.
Yoko Okino nodded gently.
...
