The engine hummed beneath me as I navigated through the afternoon traffic, my hands gripping the steering wheel tighter than necessary. I had left Felix scrambling to cover the last meeting of the day, feeding him some excuse about needing air and promising to review documents later. The truth burned in my throat like expensive whiskey. I wanted to see her.

What started as a simple verification mission had twisted into something I refused to name. Aria's intel about the Rossi business situation needed confirmation, sure. Any rational entrepreneur would leap at the lifeline I could offer, especially when their empire was crumbling beneath their feet. But rationality had abandoned me the moment I decided to handle this personally instead of sending one of my men.
