Chapter 35 - CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE: HANRYEON FOODS. IT'S....LIVELY

The next morning, the kitchen slowly came to life.

Do-Hyun wandered in first, still half-asleep, followed by Nisa tying her hair back.

Ha-Joon entered last, already alert, already composed.

Ji-Ah was there before all of them, moving between the stove and the table, setting plates down like she actually knew what she was doing.

"Sit," she said, pointing. "Before I change my mind."

Do-Hyun raised his hands. "Yes, chef."

They all sat.

Ha-Joon took the first bite.

He paused for a second too long, chewing carefully.

Ji-Ah watched him closely.

"It's… edible," he said.

The room went silent.

"That's an insult," Ji-Ah said flatly.

"It means it's improved," he replied calmly. "Significantly."

Do-Hyun laughed. "Wow. High praise coming from him."

Nisa smiled softly. "You really are getting better, Ji-Ah."

Ji-Ah crossed her arms, pretending not to care. "Say that again but louder."

They continued eating, the atmosphere easy, warm. For a moment, everything felt normal.

Then Ji-Ah spoke up. "I don't want to stay home alone today."

Ha-Joon looked up. "Why?"

"I just don't," she said simply. "I want to go out."

He studied her for a brief moment, then nodded. "Alright."

Do-Hyun immediately leaned forward. "She can come with us to Hanryeon Foods. We need help anyway."

He glanced at Nisa.

She smiled. "Yes. I'd really appreciate your help."

Ji-Ah's face brightened. "Thanks, guys."

Ha-Joon wiped his hands, then cleared his throat and stood.

He slipped on his suit jacket, straightening it like armor. "I'll be leaving now."

The room quieted again.

"We don't know what might happen," he continued. "Do-Hea could appear without warning."

His gaze settled on Ji-Ah, more serious now. "Take care."

She nodded. "I will."

With that, he turned and walked out, the sound of the door closing echoing softly—leaving the rest of them seated around the table, the warmth of breakfast lingering just a little longer.

The door clicked shut behind Ha-Joon.

Silence.

Then—

Ji-Ah exhaled loudly and slumped back into her chair. "Why does the room feel ten degrees warmer when he leaves?"

Do-Hyun snorted. "Because the tension finally clocked out."

Nisa laughed, shaking her head. "He really said 'take care' like he was sending her into battle."

Ji-Ah groaned. "I was just going to eat noodles, not fight a villain."

Do-Hyun stood and stretched. "Alright, let's go before she starts overthinking again."

She grabbed her bag. "I do not overthink."

Nisa and Do-Hyun said together, "You do."

---

Hanryeon Foods announced itself before it was even fully seen.

The doors swung open to heat, motion, and sound. Oil sizzled, knives hit boards in quick rhythm, voices called orders back and forth.

Steam rose toward bright lights, and the scent of food wrapped around Ji-Ah all at once.

She stopped just inside. "Whoa…"

People noticed immediately.

"Boss is here."

"Good morning, Nisa."

"Manager Do-Hyun!"

Nisa smiled easily as she walked in, calm and confident, returning greetings with a nod.

She tied her apron without breaking stride and disappeared into the kitchen, already in command.

Do-Hyun turned to Ji-Ah. "I'll have someone give you a quick tour. Otherwise, you'll get lost."

"I would not," Ji-Ah protested.

He smiled. "You absolutely would."

Before he could say more, there was a sudden squeak of shoes against the floor.

"JI-AH?!"

A tall figure rushed toward them, nearly slipping before catching himself.

Min-Jea stood there grinning, hair slightly messy, eyes bright, the kind of handsome that felt warm and familiar rather than intimidating.

"Oh wow," he said, looking her over. "You came. You look really good."

''Oh Babes.'' Ji-Ah laughed. "You're dramatic."

"Only for you," he replied, already pulling her along. "Come on. I'll show you around."

They moved deeper into the kitchen.

Min-Jea stopped beside a prep table where a girl worked with steady hands.

She had soft features, neat movements, and a quiet elegance.

"This is Aiko Tanaka," Min-Jea said. "She keeps this place running."

Aiko looked up and smiled gently. "Nice to meet you, Ji-Ah."

"Nice to meet you," Ji-Ah replied, bowing slightly.

Next, Min-Jea led her past a station where a boy balanced three plates at once, nearly losing one before laughing it off.

His smile was bright, his energy infectious, eyes always darting around like he was in the middle of a joke only he understood.

"That's Kenji Sato," Min-Jea said. "If something falls, it's probably his fault."

Kenji flashed Ji-Ah a grin. "Welcome. Try not to trip."

"I'll do my best," she said, amused.

They moved again.

Near the drinks station stood someone different.

Tall.

Calm.

Sleeves rolled up just enough.

His movements were unhurried, precise.

When he looked up, his eyes met Ji-Ah's—and didn't rush away.

Min-Jea slowed slightly. "And that's Lin Jae-Min."

Lin held her gaze for a beat longer than polite, then inclined his head. "Nice to meet you."

His voice was low, smooth, unreadable.

"Nice to meet you," Ji-Ah replied.

For a moment, the noise of the kitchen seemed to dip around them.

Lin's attention lingered, subtle but unmistakable, before he returned to his work.

Min-Jea leaned closer, whispering, "He doesn't look at people like that."

Ji-Ah glanced back once.

Lin was focused again—but somehow still aware.

Min-Jea clapped his hands. "Alright. Tour done."

Ji-Ah looked around—the movement, the people, the warmth—and smiled. "It's… lively."

Min-Jea grinned. "That's Hanryeon Foods."

Behind her, Lin glanced up again, just briefly.

And somewhere between the steam, the noise, and that quiet look, something new settled into place.
