Chapter 45 - CHAPTER FORTY FIVE: WHO IS THE NEW GUY?

The airport breathed movement.

Rolling suitcases hummed across polished floors.

Departure boards flickered. Voices overlapped in a dozen languages, excitement and exhaustion sharing the same air.

He came to a stop near the arrival gate.

Young.

Confident.

Slightly mad in the way people are when they believe the world is about to be kind to them.

He wore all white.

Clean sneakers.

Loose trousers.

A light jacket thrown on like an afterthought.

Fashionable without trying.

His suitcase trailed behind him obediently, wheels clicking in rhythm with his steps.

Brown hair fell softly over his forehead, silky and unruly. Big eyes scanned the crowd, curious and calm.

His skin held a warm tan, like someone who knew sunlight personally.

He smiled.

Soft. Easy.

Yes.

He was waiting for someone.

Far, far away from his calm orbit, chaos wrestled with luggage.

Soo-Yeon was losing a war.

Her suitcase refused to cooperate, dragging sideways like it had personal grudges.

Her hair wasn't tied neatly.

Just gathered loosely, strands escaping to frame her face in messy defiance.

She wore good clothes, stylish in a lived-in way, but nothing about her posture suggested peace.

"Move," she hissed at the suitcase. "I swear, if you do this one more time—"

The suitcase did it one more time.

"Of course," she muttered. "Of course you would betray me here."

She yanked it closer.

And promptly bumped into someone.

She fell straight onto her butt.

"Ow—!"

She scrambled up, brushing herself off. "I'm so sorry, I didn't—"

No one.

She blinked.

 Looked left. Right.

"Huh," she muttered. "Strange."

Her phone buzzed.

I'm here. I can see you.

She frowned, then slowly turned around.

Ji-Ah stood there.

Arms crossed. Smiling brightly. Too bright.

"About time," Ji-Ah said Excited.

Soo-Yeon stared. "You—"

Ji-Ah rolled her eyes.

But smiled "You were busy fighting your suitcase. I've been standing here for a while."

Soo-Yeon scoffed. "I'm lucky your boss is such an awesome, generous man that he let me to stay."

She leaned in and whispered, almost conspiratorial, "Thank you."

Ji-Ah paused.

Blink.

"…Thank you?" she repeated, like the words were a foreign language.

Soo-Yeon grinned. "Yep. That's me. Grateful. Occasionally."

Ji-Ah exhaled, shaking her head. "Wow. First time in history."

Soo-Yeon laughed, tugging her suitcase along at last. "Don't get used to it."

The airport swallowed them back into motion, excitement humming under their steps as somewhere nearby, someone else was still waiting, smiling, and unaware that chaos had already arrived.

---

"Ha-Joon," Do-Hyun said with a grin sharp enough to tease, "next time you invite people over, maybe tell us how many."

Ha-Joon didn't even look guilty. "You complain too much."

"I complain accurately," Do-Hyun replied.

Nisa stayed glued to his side, fingers curled into his sleeve, not scared at all. Just comfortable.

Watching everything with wide, curious eyes.

The doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," Nisa said, already halfway there.

The door opened.

Ji-Ah stepped in first, casual and familiar. Behind her came Seo-Yeon, suitcase in hand.

She looked tired but composed. Fragile in the way porcelain is fragile. Carefully dressed, shoulders squared, eyes observant.

Not smaller than Ji-Ah. Just quieter.

"This is my elder sister," Ji-Ah said. "Seo-Yeon."

Seo-Yeon nodded. "Hello."

Do-Hyun smiled. "You look serious."

"I am," Seo-Yeon replied calmly.

Ji-Ah laughed. "She's like that all the time."

"And you're loud all the time," Seo-Yeon shot back.

"See?" Ji-Ah grinned. "Witty. Dangerous."

They laughed.

The doorbell rang again.

"I'll open it," Ha-Joon said, already standing.

The door swung open.

"I'm home."

The voice carried warmth. Light. Almost musical.

Min-Hyuk stepped inside.

All white outfit.

Clean sneakers.

Easy confidence. Suitcase rolling behind him like it knew where it belonged.

He looked younger than the rest of them, the baby of the three brothers at twenty, energy practically spilling out of him.

"Wow," he said immediately, eyes scanning the room. "So this is the chaos."

Do-Hyun laughed. "Min-Hyuk."

Min-Hyuk pointed at him. "Still loud."

Then Ji-Ah. "You're cooler in real life."

Ji-Ah raised a brow. "You flirt with everyone?"

"Only people who look like they could survive an apocalypse," he replied smoothly.

Ha-Joon sighed. "He's like this."

Min-Hyuk grinned. "Youngest privilege."

Then his eyes landed on Seo-Yeon.

And the room… shifted.

For a moment, everything else faded. The noise. The teasing. Even his own smile stilled.

She wasn't flashy. She wasn't trying. She just was.

Her hair framed her face softly.

Her posture was calm but guarded. And when she looked at him, it felt like stepping into quiet snowfall.

Clean. Slow.

Impossible to rush.

Something warm bloomed in his chest.

Sudden. Uninvited.

Unavoidable.

Oh, he thought. This is bad.

He walked toward her, movements slower now, more deliberate.

He extended his hand.

"I'm Kim Min-Hyuk," he said, voice steady despite the strange tightness in his chest.

"Nice to meet you."

Seo-Yeon took his hand. "Seo-Yeon."

Her grip was firm. Her eyes steady.

Magical.

There was no other word for it.

Do-Hyun broke the moment by pulling Min-Hyuk into a hug. "You finally made it!"

Min-Hyuk laughed, but his eyes flicked back to Seo-Yeon almost immediately.

"And this," Do-Hyun said, gesturing, "is Nisa."

Min-Hyuk crouched slightly

Nisa Moved forward ''Nice to meet you''.

"Wow," he said honestly. "You're adorable. Everything about you. Even your accent." He made a soft chef's-kiss motion.

Nisa hid her face against Do-Hyun, shy but smiling.

Before Min-Hyuk could say anything else foolish, Ha-Joon spoke calmly, "Before you fall in love with everyone in the room—"

Min-Hyuk didn't look away from Seo-Yeon.

"Too late," he said softly.

Ha-Joon sighed. "Let's go inside before this gets worse."

Min-Hyuk smiled again, brighter now, heart already somewhere it hadn't been a moment ago.

And Seo-Yeon, walking ahead of him, didn't notice.

Not yet.

They moved into the living room and settled in, all six of them, the space filling with the low hum of familiarity.

Shoes tucked away.

Suitcases leaned against walls. The kind of quiet that only comes when people feel allowed to breathe.

Ha-Joon leaned back slightly.

"So," he said, looking at Min-Hyuk, "how have you been?"

"Good," Min-Hyuk replied easily.

"Mom is being mom. Everything's fine." He smiled, softer now. "I just missed you guys. Thought I'd come by."

Do-Hyun scoffed. "You miss us or the free food?"

"Both," Min-Hyuk said without shame.

Ha-Joon then turned to Seo-Yeon. "Ji-Ah never mentioned you."

Ji-Ah glanced at her sister.

Seo-Yeon spoke calmly.

"We weren't on good terms after she left Gyeongju." She paused, then added, "But I think… we'll get along better now."

Ji-Ah nodded. "We will."

Min-Hyuk tilted his head, studying Seo-Yeon with a puzzled smile. "Have I seen you before?"

Seo-Yeon met his eyes. "Technically, yes. I was the girl who bumped into you."

Min-Hyuk blinked.

Then laughed. "You're kidding."

"You vanished," she said simply. "When I turned around, you were gone."

''But I still remember the scent.''

"Oh," he said, suddenly remembering. "My suitcase rolled away. But I caught a glimpse of you."

Ha-Joon nodded like a judge confirming evidence. "You did."

Min-Hyuk rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed and amused at the same time. "I swear I didn't run away on purpose."

Ji-Ah stood. "Come on, Seo-Yeon. I'll show you your room."

Seo-Yeon followed her.

"Min-Hyuk," Ha-Joon said, already walking. "Follow me."

Min-Hyuk nodded and stood, casting one last look toward the hallway where Seo-Yeon disappeared, something quiet and new settling in his chest.

Soon, only Do-Hyun and Nisa remained in the living room.

Nisa hugged him tighter, her chin pressing into his shoulder.

"You're always busy," she complained softly. "We never get time together. It's lonely."

Do-Hyun smiled, gently pecking the pout right off her lips. "You're dramatic."

She smiled immediately, caught.

"Okay," she whispered, leaning closer. "I'll spare you."
