Lord Jethro came back with what he had been asked for and immediately realized that the doctor's head was still resting on the table, unmoved, exactly as he had left it.
"Here. I brought it," he said, holding the container out, expecting that the doctor would finally lift his head and tend to him.
But the doctor didn't.
When the doctor spoke, still without looking up, asking him to place it somewhere on the table, something inside Lord Jethro snapped despite himself.
"I told you," he said sharply, his voice cutting through the room, "I need it right now."
The authority in his tone was undeniable. It struck the doctor like a physical blow, snapping his head up from the table as he stared at Lord Jethro in alarm.
The fright on the man's face made Lord Jethro pause for a fraction of a second, wondering if he had been recognized.
