The staff member at the Mission Hall was named Liu Xu.
When she saw a new face approaching the counter, she greeted him with a warm smile.
"Please verify your identity by tapping your electronic wristband on this scanner."
She gestured toward the device beside the counter.
Zhao Mu placed his wristband against it, and his information immediately appeared on the display.
Name: Zhao Mu
Age: 18
Ability: Special Type – Demon Clown
Military Camp: Primary Camp
Combat Level: 7
System Authority: Level 3
...
Liu Xu's eyes brightened slightly when she noticed his Level 3 System Authority.
For a new trainee, that level of authority was equivalent to the privileges granted to an A-Rank Talent.
Although Zhao Mu wasn't officially an A-Rank talent, the academy had granted him these privileges because of his exceptional Jinhai Master talent.
Liu Xu explained,
"According to the Mission Hall regulations, every newcomer's first mission must be completed under the guidance of a senior trainee."
"In addition, beginners are only allowed to accept Level 1 missions."
Zhao Mu had already learned about these rules through Qingshui, the Qingfeng Camp forum, before arriving.
The mission system was divided into five ranks based on difficulty and academic credit rewards.
- Level 1 Missions: Up to 50 Academic Credits
- Level 2 Missions: 51–100 Academic Credits
- Level 3 Missions: 101–300 Academic Credits
- Level 4 Missions: 301–1,000 Academic Credits
- Level 5 Missions: 1,001–2,000 Academic Credits
The greater the reward, the greater the danger.
The purpose of Qingfeng Camp's mission system was twofold.
First, to help maintain public safety throughout Lujiang City.
Second, to temper trainees through real-life combat.
Every year, many trainees lost their lives while carrying out missions.
However, earning academic credits was essential.
Without them, trainees couldn't exchange for Battle Techniques, weapons, or qualify for promotion to higher-level military camps.
Zhao Mu instinctively glanced toward the higher-level missions.
Liu Xu smiled knowingly.
"With your current Combat Level, if you attempt anything above a Level 2 mission..."
"You'll die without a doubt."
Zhao Mu rubbed his nose awkwardly.
It seemed earning academic credits wasn't going to be easy.
"What about Level 1 missions?" he asked.
Liu Xu continued smiling.
"There's still a fairly high chance of dying."
Zhao Mu's lips twitched.
"So basically, I'm volunteering to get myself killed?"
This time, Liu Xu's expression became unusually serious.
"Ordinary criminals are handled by the City Public Security Bureau."
"But every mission assigned to Qingfeng Camp involves Spirit Power Users."
"Most of them are dangerous fugitives responsible for serious crimes."
"Casualties during capture operations are extremely common."
"If your strength hasn't at least reached the Private Rank, and you lack real combat experience, I don't recommend taking difficult missions."
As she spoke, she scrolled through the mission list before swiping to the very bottom.
"You should start with these."
"They're almost completely safe and are mainly intended to help trainees develop communication and social skills."
Zhao Mu looked at the list.
Examples included:
1. August 5: Serve as a bodyguard at the City Museum. Reward: 1 Academic Credit.
2. August 10: Work as a live model at the City Art Gallery to demonstrate the beauty of Spiritual Ability. Reward: 1 Academic Credit.
3. September 11: Visit Yuwu No.11 Primary School and teach children about the history of Spiritual Abilities in the Xuanfeng Empire. Reward: 1 Academic Credit.
...
Zhao Mu sighed helplessly.
"A capture mission rewards fifty credits."
"These only give one."
"Even if I worked every day for an entire year, I'd barely earn the equivalent of one real mission."
He looked at Liu Xu with determination.
"I still want to challenge myself."
Liu Xu met his gaze.
After several moments of silence, she finally nodded.
"Alright."
"If you can find a senior trainee willing to lead you, and join a mission as part of their team, I'll approve it."
This was clearly a privilege granted because of his Level 3 System Authority.
Zhao Mu nodded.
"Understood."
Completing field missions was essential.
Only by facing life-and-death battles could he rapidly improve his mastery of the Seven Kills Battle Technique.
The only problem was...
Where could he find someone willing to take a newcomer?
Just as Zhao Mu turned to leave, a pleasant female voice called out behind him.
"Junior Brother Zhao Mu."
"Would you like to join our team?"
He turned around.
Standing behind him were two trainees wearing the Primary Camp combat uniform.
One was a handsome young man.
The other was a beautiful young woman.
Both appeared several years older than Zhao Mu.
"Senior Brother. Senior Sister."
Zhao Mu greeted them politely.
The young woman smiled.
"My name is Tian Lizhen."
"Combat Level 19."
"Water-Type Ability User."
She pointed toward the young man beside her.
"This is Sun Jiliang."
"Combat Level 20."
"Earth-Type Ability User."
"We're currently earning academic credits to qualify for promotion to the Intermediate Camp."
"We happen to have a mission that requires one extra teammate."
"Would you like to come with us?"
Zhao Mu didn't recognize either of them.
He smiled slightly.
"There are plenty of trainees around your level."
"So why choose me?"
Sun Jiliang laughed.
"You're pretty cautious."
"That's a good quality."
He explained,
"The mission we've accepted is still classified as Level 1, worth 50 Academic Credits."
"If we recruit people at our own level, we'd have to split the credits."
Then he pointed at Zhao Mu.
"But according to Qingfeng Camp's rules, if we bring along a junior trainee who's completing their first mission..."
"We don't have to divide our academic credits."
Zhao Mu turned toward Liu Xu.
"Is that true?"
She nodded with a smile.
"Yes."
"The distribution of academic credits is decided by the mission participants."
"But this has become an unofficial tradition within Qingfeng Camp."
Tian Lizhen clapped her hands with a cheerful smile.
"I watched your match against Shao Han."
"You're talented."
"The mission we're taking is relatively easy."
"The target is an 18th-Level Spirit Power User."
"The two of us will handle the main battle."
"You only need to help prevent the target from escaping."
"So..."
"What do you think?"
"If you pass up this opportunity, don't expect many people to volunteer to take a newcomer."
Zhao Mu opened the mission details.
The target was indeed only an 18th-Level fugitive named Zhang Yu.
He had retired from active service six years earlier and later worked as a factory security guard.
Two months ago, however, he robbed a jewelry store, injured three civilians, and seriously wounded two officers while resisting arrest.
After reading the file, Zhao Mu looked at Liu Xu.
"If I successfully complete this mission..."
"Can I start accepting missions on my own afterward?"
Liu Xu smiled and nodded.
"Yes."
Zhao Mu turned back toward Tian Lizhen and Sun Jiliang.
"Alright."
"I look forward to working with you."
Tian Lizhen smiled brightly.
"We'll leave tonight at 9:00 PM."
"Meet us at the South Gate."
After saying goodbye, the two seniors waved and left the Mission Hall with relaxed smiles.
