Chapter 25 - The Law of Resonance

The frequency rippled out from the Lab, washing over the five boroughs like a silent tide.

In that instant, the physical laws of the city shifted.

The Architect's "Static" was replaced by a living, breathing Resonance.

Suddenly, the city began to "react":

• In Harlem: A block-party erupted in dance, and the brownstones glowed with a warm, amber light that felt like a hug.

• In the Financial District: A wave of collective stress turned the glass skyscrapers a dull, cold slate-grey, and the air grew heavy.

The dark goddess stood over her, her silver eyes glowing.

"You set the Law, but you didn't set the Filter.

If you don't find a way to balance the Resonance, the city will shake itself apart from the sheer volume of its own feelings!"

Down on the streets, the effect was becoming dangerous.

A sudden argument between two drivers in a traffic jam caused the asphalt beneath them to crack and turn black, while a nearby wedding caused a fountain to erupt in sparkling, violet water.

The city was literally "acting out" the internal chaos of its people
