Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: That’s Seriously Unfair

He did not dig any deeper after that.

He did not know the finer details, nor did he bother checking whatever historical records existed.

Still, the very first item he had seen was already a huge surprise, and that alone put him in a pretty good mood.

Expensive things really do exist for a reason.

He kept scrolling.

The next item was no longer something from his own world, but from the world he was currently in, Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World.

[Divine Protection of the Phoenix]

Price: one million popularity points

Effect: Grants one resurrection. After activation, the Divine Protection updates to "Continued Divine Protection of the Phoenix." Upon triggering again, it updates to "Continued Continued Divine Protection of the Phoenix." Can stack infinitely.

Just moments ago, Satoru Gojo had already thought that Adaptation was absurd enough.

But this Divine Protection of the Phoenix was not inferior in the slightest.

Resurrection upon death.

That alone did not need much explanation.

Everyone only had one life. Even someone like him, who could use Reverse Cursed Technique to continuously regenerate and recover as long as his cursed energy did not run dry, was no exception.

Being able to revive once meant having an extra life.

Whether facing a powerful enemy or some unexpected danger, it allowed for far greater leeway.

It was something no one, in any world, would ever refuse.

But the effect of the Divine Protection of the Phoenix went far beyond that.

After reviving once, it turned into Continued Divine Protection of the Phoenix.

Which meant another extra life.

And if death occurred again, it would activate once more.

In simple terms, infinite resurrection.

You just could not die.

Staring at the description, Gojo sat up straight on the bed.

"Hey, hey, isn't this a bit too much?"

"It doesn't even let people die. Against someone like this, sealing is basically the only option left."

He muttered to himself, his gaze linking the two abilities he had just read about.

If someone had both Adaptation and Divine Protection of the Phoenix, then in every possible sense, they would truly be invincible.

Even sealing would not work.

After all, sealing itself was a phenomenon, one that Adaptation could eventually adjust to and nullify.

Before this, Adaptation was already outrageous, but it still had a counter.

As long as you killed the user before they finished adapting, using an attack that exceeded their limits, it was doable.

But in front of Divine Protection of the Phoenix, that strategy was a complete joke.

"Tch, I get it now. This shop is pure bait."

"It uses stuff like this to push people to earn more popularity points, then come back and exchange them."

Gojo scrolled further down the list. There were plenty of items just as ridiculous.

Magic that could send targets into another dimension. Magic that altered the weather. Magic that transferred one's soul, revived the dead, or summoned meteors from the sky.

There were also Divine Protections that leaned toward rule manipulation.

Things like making an opponent's long-range attacks never hit, while guaranteeing that your own long-range attacks always did.

An utterly unfair combination.

Even Gojo had to admit one thing after seeing all this.

The power system of this world was clearly stronger than the one he came from, with a much higher ceiling.

There were simply too many bizarre abilities.

It was hard to imagine just how absurd it would be if multiple synergistic Divine Protections ended up on the same person.

Compared to that, his own world felt lacking.

In this highest-tier exchange list, there were not many jujutsu-related things he recognized, especially when placed next to those Divine Protections.

But a few were still quite unusual.

Aside from the Ten Shadows Technique from the Zen'in clan.

There was even Heavenly Restriction, a condition that people were normally born with.

Unlike the uncontrollable, innate Heavenly Restrictions imposed at birth.

The exchanged version allowed the user to freely choose what to sacrifice, using it to strengthen other abilities.

As long as you had enough popularity points, even a restriction that was normally forced upon you from birth could be turned into a tool for self-enhancement.

The only thing that mattered was how well you balanced the pros and cons.

"It really is a fascinating shop. Without it, I would never have known there were so many strange Divine Protections and special types of magic in this world."

"At this rate, if I end up traveling to other worlds later on, once their anime starts airing, I can probably use this shop to get a pretty clear picture of how strong their power systems are."

Gojo yawned, gaining a deeper understanding of this so-called side character system.

After that, he did not bother looking any further.

The cheap stuff did not interest him.

The expensive stuff was out of reach.

And compared to all of this, he was still confident in his own strength.

No matter how many strange abilities existed in this world.

He was Satoru Gojo.

Even without relying on anything from the shop, he was still the strongest.

Inside the knight fortress, Gojo slept soundly through the night.

The environment here was even better than the inn he had stayed at the day before.

The only real flaw was in the morning.

Once the knights arrived and began assembling for their briefing in the nearby training grounds, it got a bit noisy, making it impossible to sleep in.

It was already late morning by the time Gojo finally got up, moving sluggishly out of bed.

This was his favorite pace of life back when he was at Jujutsu High.

Because of his strength, classes had long since stopped mattering to him.

Whenever there were no missions, he liked to wander around with Suguru Geto.

Even though Utahime always looked down on that kind of behavior, he never got tired of it.

"Yo, you look like you didn't sleep very well."

After leaving his room and finishing a quick wash, Gojo saw Felt walking out as well, dark circles under her eyes.

Felt shot him a look, completely lacking her usual energy.

"You pissed off someone who might end up being king, and you can still sleep?"

"Who knows. Either way, the one who'll get targeted later is you, right?"

"And if we're being honest, I'm kind of her benefactor. If it weren't for me, you probably would've gotten away already…"

Gojo's talent for reopening old wounds instantly set Felt off.

"Oh yeah? You're in this with me now. You really think she'd let you off the hook?"

Gojo looked at her with sympathy.

"I'm not scared. Worst case, I just run. It's not like many people can actually keep me here, right?"

Thinking back to what Gojo had done before, Felt fell silent.
