Chapter 38 - Chapter 36: The Second Gate

Comoe rainforest.

This rainforest, covering a total area of 11,500 square kilometers, still has nearly 70% of its area untouched by humans, and the abundance of highly venomous mosquitoes deters even local tribes from venturing there.

However, along the border with Ghana, several construction teams belonging to Atlas are working intensively on construction.

Furthermore, due to the towering trees and the outer perimeter blockade by armed mercenaries, even the local government was unable to approach and spy on the construction.

Furthermore, this area has been acquired by Atlas and is now private territory. Atlas also has military power that surpasses that of the local government to protect it, allowing the construction to progress steadily deeper into the rainforest.

If one is to follow the direction the construction team is moving, that is, rapidly heading northwest, we will arrive deep in the Comoe rainforest.

At first glance, this area is no different from other places that humans have never set foot in, with towering trees and dense foliage covering the ground, all year round.

However, tens of meters below this area

"All personnel, please prepare yourselves. Repeat, all personnel, please prepare yourselves. The second spatial gate is about to open. Advance team members, please report to area SG-002."

"Please have everyone ready...."

The broadcast announcements echoed throughout the vast space.

Originally built with granite bricks, the ruins have now been expanded and transformed by Atlas into a more spacious underground base.

The engineering department also neatly planned the living areas, laboratories, training areas and energy facilities, making it almost like a small underground town.

On the southeast side of the base, there is a passage with a diameter of ten meters. Combined with the already completed tracks, it is not hard to guess that Atlas's construction team wanted to dig out a subway that would lead directly to the border of Ghana under this rainforest.

And only Atlas would undertake such a national level construction project without regard to cost or return.

Although this underground ruin has long lost its original appearance, the engineering department has preserved the load bearing stone pillars that burned with golden flames, as well as the altar located in the very center.

To the north of the base lies the first space, which resembles a mercury mirror, with heavy trucks constantly shuttling between Zero One and the main universe.

Although the Zero-One Universe no longer needs much attention, Atlas continues to send various personnel to infiltrate it. The investigators who were the first to integrate into that society even established an Atlas branch.

The company's main business is to conduct cross-border trade by taking advantage of price differences between different universes and eras. While maximizing profits, it is also gradually expanding Atlas's influence from a single universe to the multiverse.

The secondary task is to find high value individuals from different universes, make contact with them, and then attempt to recruit them.

For example, Henry Carter, who had in depth research on mimicry but was dismissed as a lunatic, is the disheveled, unkempt man PhD in the movie Edge of Tomorrow.

Faced with the high salary offer from the Atlas division, and with the mimicry threat having been eliminated. Dr. Carter gladly accepted the offer and has now passed the assessment process, being transferred to the research department under Mr.Wang

And at this moment.

As the broadcast alerted, warning lights placed in prominent locations began flashing, putting the entire base into a state of emergency.

People were bustling about in various areas, corridors, and passageways, while an armed team dressed in airtight pressure maintaining combat suits was traveling in an open top shuttle bus toward the vicinity of the first spatial gate.

Once the vehicle arrived at the outer waiting area and came to a stop, the armed men quickly dismounted. Four of them, equipped with mechanical exoskeletons, were responsible for carrying large equipment boxes.

looking at the central altar.

Sui Yang, dressed in a black suit, stood on the altar, looking down at the skull mark that represented the skull from Warhammer.

He then raised his left hand, spread his five fingers, and then used his right index finger-or rather, his nail to forcefully scratch the palm of his left hand.

Beep, beep.

The bright red blood dripped slowly at first, then flowed in torrents, consciously flowing into the gaps in the engravings. In an instant, the blood-red skull appeared before Sui Yang's eyes.

boom!!

A golden light suddenly erupted, filling the entire underground base.

The second door frame, covered in mud and with moss growing in the cracks between the stone bricks, also bursts into flames.

As the flames grew ever more intense, a burst of light erupted once more, causing everyone present, except for Sui Yang, to involuntarily close their eyes.

A moment later.

The light faded.

When everyone opened their eyes again, they found that the mud and bricks in the second door frame had been replaced by a mercury mirror that emitted a faint glow.

"Attention everyone, green light, green light, the second spatial gate has opened."

The broadcast also reminded everyone in a timely manner

"Please send the advance team to Universe 02 immediately to investigate the situation there and build a wired communication base station."

In fact, there was no need for a broadcast reminder, everyone had already arrived at their respective posts and was ready to explore Universe Zero Two.

Sui Yang walked slowly to the edge of the altar, gazing at the advance team of less than twenty people, who stepped through the spatial gate one by one until all their figures were submerged by the mercury.

"Huff... Hah... Huff..."

Because of the sealed mask, the breathing sounds were exceptionally clear.

Moreover, the mask has a built in HUD, with a slightly smaller radar in the upper left corner with a rounded frame, displaying nearby dynamics detected by the dynamic sensor, and marking nearby comrades as green dots.

The top right corner displays the heart rate and the name Sgt. Gary Roach Sanderson, along with some real-time data.

As for Sergeant Sanderson, nicknamed 'Roach' he was standing with his comrades in front of the second spatial portal, letting the ripples of light, resembling the surface of a lake or the sea, shine on them.

Upon hearing the broadcast announcement, a deep voice came through their communication channel with the command "Roach, Ghost, Soap, Price and John Doe the five of you go through the portal first."

"Roger, let's go."

Upon hearing this, Sanderson stepped forward and quickly moved to a position only two fists away from the mercury mirror.

"Hoo... Ha!"

After taking a few deep breaths and feeling their heart rate rise slightly, Sanderson and his four teammates took another step forward until their masks and vision were completely enveloped and filled with mercury.

The rest of the team also started walking towards the mercury portal, following behind the five men

Fortunately, in the blink of an eye, he and his four comrades passed through smoothly.

At the same time, the mercury rapidly receded from the center of the mask, moving upwards and to the sides, restoring his vision, and before him...

It is a rainforest

However, it is quite different from the Comoe rainforest outside the ruins site, or from any other rainforest on Earth.

All the giant trees he could see were at least a hundred meters tall, and all the nearby flowers and plants seemed to have grown larger. Most importantly, Sanderson felt that he was lighter.

He glanced at the data feedback on the right side of the mask, and one item displayed 'Gravity: Approximately 0.8G' confirming his guess that he had become lighter and also confirming...

They have now arrived on another planet.
