Chapter 24 - Imperial Feast

Another soldier raised his hand. "I want to live on the second floor."

"Sure!" Without a second thought, David selected a house and directly built a second floor, connecting the levels with a wooden ladder.

"Will it collapse?" The soldiers looked at the unscientific house with a mix of worry and novelty.

"Suspended! I want to live in a suspended house, like a bird's nest," an even younger-looking soldier shouted excitedly.

"Sure, sure, anything works." David built with great enthusiasm, and the soldiers became increasingly passionate.

They chimed in with all sorts of ideas, some reasonable and others completely wild.

David accepted them all, and for a moment, the scene was quite festive.

"What's all this noise? What are you doing!" a stern scolding rang out.

A Middle-aged Officer from the armored unit walked over with a grim face.

His gaze swept over the excited soldiers. "Don't increase the engineering burden for no reason. Everyone, quiet down and return to your posts."

"Don't be too harsh, Officer." David patted the middle-aged man on the shoulder.

"It's only the difference between 30 seconds and 40 seconds; it's not much trouble."

"When building a house, the most important thing is that the people living there are satisfied."

David's gaze swept across the group of soldiers.

These soldiers had just escaped a life-or-death situation, having experienced betrayal and death.

Moreover, many of them were like Hans, with faces that still held a touch of youthful innocence.

The Middle-aged Officer's lips moved, but in the end, he said nothing more and stood to the side with his hands behind his back.

David turned his gaze back to his work.

It was neat and practical, but he felt something was missing.

Right, it was missing a bit of nature's color.

David took out several saplings and walked to the front of each newly built house, placing a sapling in the soil beside the door.

He took out bonemeal to accelerate their growth.

Trees grew, and flowers broke through the soil.

Bright red Poppy, light purple Violets, and pure white Daisies.

Some soldiers looked bewildered.

Others recognized them. "Those look like flowers; I've seen them in an encyclopedia."

"Alright." David clapped his hands and spread his arms. "Don't just stand there; go check out your new homes."

Cheers erupted again, even more enthusiastic than before.

The soldiers cheered as they flocked toward their own "homes."

Even the Middle-aged Officer's cold, hard expression twitched, a flicker of emotion passing through his eyes.

David stood to the side, listening to the endless praise and watching those radiant faces.

He tried his best to maintain the air of a master, but the corners of his mouth were already uncontrollably curling upward.

Indeed, gold shines wherever it goes; the fact that he was a master builder was beyond doubt.

David then completed the construction of the infinite water and the farmland, which took him about two hours.

After finishing all the construction work, David took out the [blueprint] and completely copied the first building he had completed in Cadia.

[Please name the building]

David's eyes darted around as he typed into the naming bar:

[Transcendent · Both Practical and Aesthetic · Model of Battlefield Living · Light of Cadia · David's First Work]

[Name is too long]

Fine then. David typed again.

[Self-Built Fortress No. 1]

[Naming Successful]

"Hey, David, over here."

Bella poked her head out from the entrance of a dark green tent and waved at the idling David.

Outside the tent sat two large baskets; one was filled with potatoes, and the other held wheat and several heads of cabbage.

"The way your vegetables grow is truly eerie," Bella said as she walked out of the tent. "Even the mutated weeds on the Empire's Agri-Worlds aren't this efficient."

Bella grunted as she dragged the basket of potatoes. "Come on, give me a hand."

David picked up the heavier basket with one hand.

The two of them, one after the other, moved the harvest into the tent.

Thud! Thud!

Two dull sounds as the baskets hit the ground.

"With these, plus the fields you just expanded outside, it'll be enough to feed everyone in this camp."

Bella turned around. "To be honest, seeing what you've done for our camp, I'm suddenly having some regrets."

"Oh?" David crossed his arms.

"You've realized you were asking for too much this morning? What, did your conscience kick in, and you're ready to lower the profit-sharing ratio?"

Cough, cough!

Bella cleared her throat. "As the saying goes, a deal made is like water poured out—how can you take it back?"

She winked at David.

"However, if I didn't show any appreciation at all, it would make me seem a bit heartless."

"So?" David asked with interest.

"So, I plan to make it up to you in another way." Bella smiled mysteriously.

She pulled over a stool taller than herself, vigorously wiped the seat with her sleeve, and then made a gesture of invitation.

David sat down.

Bella produced a piece of linen as if by magic and stood on her tiptoes to tie it around David's neck.

"Are you planning to treat me to a meal?" David looked at the clean dining table in front of him.

It was actually just a thick solid wood board laid across two stacked crates.

"Bingo." Bella snapped her fingers.

As she spoke, she turned around and drew a specially made dagger from a leather sheath at her waist.

It was called a dagger, but it looked more like a kitchen knife, clearly having undergone careful modification.

She raised the special kitchen knife and made a phantom slash in the air, creating a slight whistling sound.

"Well then, next..." Bella took a deep breath, and her entire aura changed.

"Wait a minute." David raised his hand, interrupting Bella.

Seeing Bella's confused look, David said, "I need to make sure—this won't give me diarrhea like that mold soup from this morning, right?"

After getting Bella's reassurance, David finally breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down.

Bella lifted a piece of canvas covering the area in front of her.

Various ingredients were presented before David's eyes.

Besides the potatoes, wheat, and cabbage he was familiar with...

There were also many canned goods he hadn't seen, strange mushrooms, and aromatic herbs.

Bella lit a small stove nearby.

In the next moment, she moved.

With a wave of her arm, the kitchen knife became a blur as it struck the cutting board piled with ingredients.

Thump!

The ingredients on the cutting board were jolted into the air by the force.

Like a game of Fruit Ninja, Bella's wrist flicked with precision in the air, preparing all the side dishes.

"First dish: Creamy Mushroom Soup."

Bella put the sliced mushrooms and animal fat into a small skillet and quickly stir-fried them over the fire.

Then, she took some beast milk from Otis, poured it into the pot, and added a bit of crushed spice powder.

"Inspired by your miraculous beast milk."

The soup gradually thickened, taking on an inviting milky-white color.

"Give it a try."

David picked up a wooden spoon and scooped up a mouthful of the thick soup.

The temperature was just right, the steam carrying a blend of milky aroma and the fresh scent of mushrooms.

"Delicious!" David praised sincerely.

"Second dish, here comes the heavy hitter: Fire-Roasted Ant-Cow Pie."

"Third dish: Fried Cabbage."

"Fourth dish, fifth dish..."
