Chapter 19 - Scouting

Landing effortlessly he a final glace at the three dropping behind him, Noah Pierce, Caleb Wyne and Tamsin Crow. Arthur sighed hoping them to be as efficient as Ethan hyped them.

Before anyone could move a screen flashed before them.

[ You Have Entered A Mini Death zone ]

[ Escape Within 46 Hours ]

[ Or Confrontation Becomes Mandatory ]

"Weird this again." Tamsin said clicking her tongue. ' Even the system knows it's a death zone.' Walking forward Arthur loaded both pistols in possession. "You understand the screen, this is a stealth sweep. Be quick and fast."

Unable to see their responses Arthur move slowly, avoiding sound making. So the only thing with could be heard were the subtle steps of inexperienced youths.

Walking passed the hall, to their right was the dark corridor leading to the physics lab. ' There is nothing there.' Observing the stillness of the place, they didn't go there.

Turning his head to the right, Arthur asked in a whisper. "Which amongst you can shoot a gun accurately." The three glanced at themselves, then Tamsin slowly raised her hand.

"My grandfather was a military veteran, I practice aiming with him but I am still very bad at it." She said. "Very well then, shoot only on these conditions. I tell you, you encounter a zombies in close range or we encounter a horde."

The girl nodded and they continued towards the grade 8 classroom. Before getting their they passed one of the school's huge toilets. It's durable metal door was ripped off it's hinges, and long stream of blood ran from within into the main hallway.

The slanted fallen door limited his vision however he could see the thin stream stretch deep into the dimly lit toilet. "Are we going in." Noah said in a low voice.

" Not yet, Not now." Arthur dismissed and they continued forward, moments later they stood abreast each other. The door to grade 8c stood before them slammed shut. Now they could clearly hear something tap gently on the blood painted window.

Arthur made them stop because another step and another hall way would be at their left. He leaned on a wall and slowly peeped into the next hallway. ' It's empty.' "Everyone take your next step cautiously."

Caleb moved first Arthur watched. As his foot touched the ground, the window before them shattered. A blur lashed at Caleb and he was lifted off the ground.

' Shit.' Noticing what just happened Arthur lunged at the pulsing vein which had gotten hold of Caleb. His palm glowed icy blue and emitted a cold mist.

Before Caleb's neck could be crushed, Arthur slapped the vine with his palm and it's thinner end froze. With a redden face Caleb beat against the dozen part till it shattered and he fell gracelessly to the tiled floor.

Tamsin and Noah rushed to Caleb's side, trying to remove the vine wrapped around his neck. "Don't Follow Me. " Arthur however shoved down the classroom's door with a shoulder and rushed in.

Before he could picture what was attacking, a vine lashed at him. If he had been a second late in activating mobility, he would have been turned into a meat mash.

' Those things are huge.'

All the chairs in the class levitated and shot through the class's outside window. The creature was a plant, one growing at the entire school compound's backyard.

Beyond the class's outside window was a plain of low grass. Beyond that was a gloomy forest, with shadows constantly moving in its outskirts.

That was were the problem began, he could find the main body or bodies of what he was battling. He could only see numerous huge and countless smaller vines stretch into the class.

Watching the chairs get destroyed effortlessly Arthur knew he had to change strategy.

' This fight wouldn't end here, it would end anywhere.' The whiteboard forcefully flew of its position, then came before Arthur and an incoming vine.

The thin material for the white board was supposed to be penetrated easily. However due to force barrier, it took sometime to tear through it. By the time that was done Arthur was already out of the way.

He retrieved the board, crushing it into his most reliable weapon, a spike. Switching to Environmental weaponization, he felt it delivered more power than force manipulation.

And his theory was very accurate, it tore through smaller vines easily. Bigger ones took more effort, more effort meant more time wasted Arthur was left moving around the classroom.

With most of the little vines gone, he dropped his crinkled spike was now an uneven mold of alloy. ' I have to get out of here, or instantly master a new skill at the point of death.'

Due to the loss of most vines Arthur started to notice the increasing intensity in following attacks. He squatted narrowly dodging a swipe and shot himself upward.

Grabbing the ceiling fan he spun with it before diving away, last second to the wall. The bones of his lower half rattled as he pushed himself of the wall and landed.

' I can't keep this up, eight at once. Here goes my mana pool.' Arthur's palms slowly began to release an icy mist. He side stepped evading a vine, unexpectedly it followed in his direction.

Caught of guard he got carried and slammed into the wall. Falling to his knees, he caught a massive vine, one dwarfing the huge vines. " Where did this come from." Arthur groaned.

His ice palms slowly started affecting the huge vines. The ice slowly spread through out the massive vine, however before it could be fully frozen. A vine slammed into Arthur.

His vision instantly became blurry for a moment. ' Why do I feel so weightless, am I flying? ' Noah had rushed in grabbed his collapsing body and zoomed out with inhumane speeds.

Upon exiting the class he a vine whipped him across the back. He threw Arthur as he fell to his knees and palms.

Arthur crashed into the ground, a few meters away, tumbling through the hallway they came from.

Slowly he gained himself and looked at Noah how was on all four panting. Caleb and Tamsin were blocking the doors. ' Noah carried me out. '

Springing to his feet he dashed past Noah and touched the door. It began freezing; Arthur walked back mentally spreading the ice across the class.

Not minding his rapidly emptying mana pool, the ice spread into the classroom. Arthur's face straighted out as he poured full concentration into spreading and generating more ice.

[ Fatigue: +45% ]

For each meter, ten points seeped out of his pool. By the time he had freezed a one quarter of the class, a huge part of his mana was gone. But the forceful banging on the door had stopped.

Sitting on the ground Arthur looked at the following corridor to his left and the following one. Breathing heavily, " The school is built in a rectangular formation with a space in the middle of it.

That space sits just meters away from us, we don't know what waits for us, what is coming or what we would find. So buckle up and let's continue." Arthur commanded.
