After a desperate gambit to lure her into the parched dunes of Zone B, George's leadership is tested against Giant Scarabs and a towering Sand Colossus. However, the desert also holds secrets; beneath the sands, George encounters the enigmatic Golem Maker, Elijah Xeroxes, who reveals George's destiny as a "Seer" and bestows upon him Ascalon, the legendary Saint's Blade—a weapon that doubles his power but judges his very soul.
The volume culminates in the grey, bone-strewn depths of Zone C. Here, the group faces their greatest nightmare: the Sovereign of Marrow, a methodical Bone Golem that has slaughtered scores of Harvesters.
