Alessandro's lawyer called on a Tuesday morning with news that made his coffee taste like ash.
"Vanessa's filed a countersuit," Martin said. No preamble. No softening the blow. Martin Reeves had been Alessandro's attorney for eight years and had never believed in gentle delivery. "She's claiming financial misconduct. Says you hid assets during the marriage and she's entitled to half of everything you've acquired in the last four years."
Alessandro set down his cup carefully. Too carefully. Like if he moved too fast, something inside him might crack open. "That's insane. We had a prenup. Three lawyers reviewed it. Her family's attorneys practically wrote half the clauses themselves."
