Chapter 2 - A Taste of Deception

Fan Xiao allowed the disciple to lead him through winding paths, away from Qin Yueliang's pavilion. His eyes scanned the surroundings, calculating escape routes and hidden threats.

"Name's Wei Cheng," the disciple said, trying to keep up with her pace. "And you are...?"

Fan Xiao smiled, a practiced mask. "Xiao. Just a wandering cultivator."

Wei Cheng nodded eagerly. "Wandering cultivators are rare here. What brings you to Yiwei Sect?"

He let his gaze drift, hinting at mystery. "Seeking... balance."

The young disciple seemed to buy it. "We value balance here. Maybe I can show you around?"

Fan Xiao's instincts screamed caution, but his mission required blending in. "I'd like that."

As they walked, Wei Cheng chatted about Yiwei's traditions and Qin Yueliang's legendary kindness. Fan Xiao listened intently, searching for weaknesses.

Fan Xiao's senses flared. This felt off. "Sure," he said, taking a sip.

Wei Cheng's grin grew wider. "Taste like Yiwei's secrets?"

Fan Xiao's hand tightened on his dagger. Had he walked into a trap?
