Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Forced Alliance

Sabrina was not angry when she saw Sam running away.

She simply followed him closely.

"Hmph. If you're tired of running, then stop," Sabrina's cold voice echoed in his mind. "You can rest."

Rest your head!

Sam felt utterly miserable. He was nothing more than an innocent passerby who had somehow been dragged into a completely unreasonable disaster.

His stamina was rapidly reaching its limit. His legs felt as heavy as lead, and he knew he couldn't keep running much longer.

Grinding his teeth, Sam finally made a decision.

The Team Rocket member who had been chasing Sabrina had spent a long time without defeating her. That alone proved their strengths were roughly equal. If Sam added Gengar to the fight, they would have a decent chance of winning.

To be honest, if he had any choice at all, Sam would never get involved in this battle.

The longer he lived in this world, the more he understood how terrifying Team Rocket truly was. If possible, he wanted nothing to do with them.

But now, he had no choice.

He was already firmly locked in by Sabrina.

Since he couldn't shake her off, he would inevitably be dragged into this conflict. In that case, it was better to take the initiative.

Sam began using his mental power, carefully searching for Sabrina's position and attempting to communicate.

"…Not exactly Psychic-type energy," he muttered internally. "But it's very similar."

Found her.

"Give me information on our opponent," Sam said directly. "We'll work together and defeat him."

"Hah," Sabrina replied calmly. "Weren't you trying to run away just now?"

Run?

If running worked, Sam would have been gone a long time ago.

Was escape even an option anymore?

Sam was certain that Team Rocket had already noticed him. There was no chance they would kindly let him leave after seeing his face.

"The person chasing me is a Team Rocket executive," Sabrina continued. "His name is Petrel."

Petrel?

That name instantly rang a bell.

If Sam remembered correctly, Petrel was a named character from the games—someone important within Team Rocket.

Just realizing that made Sam's headache worsen.

Anyone who could stand out among Team Rocket's many executives was definitely not ordinary.

Sabrina didn't care what Sam was thinking. She continued calmly:

"Petrel's strength is close to mine. However, he has an Elite four-level Honchkrow. I don't have a good counter for it."

An Evil-type Honchkrow.

At that moment, Sam was fully convinced that Sabrina was deliberately dragging him into the abyss.

Tyranitar was still asleep. The only Pokémon he could rely on was Gengar. But like Psychic-types, Ghost-types were also restrained by Evil-types.

If this weren't a forced alliance, Sam would already be cursing out loud.

The sounds of battle grew closer and closer, and soon Sam finally saw the two Pokémon fighting clearly.

Alakazam.

Honchkrow.

"Detection Eye."

Knowing both oneself and the enemy was the key to victory. Sam didn't dare waste even a second and immediately activated his ability.

[Pokémon]: Alakazam

[Type]: Psychic

[Strength]: Elite four – Beginner

[Potential]: Champion

[Pokémon]: Honchkrow

[Type]: Dark / Flying

[Strength]: Elite four– Beginner

[Potential]: Elite four

Sabrina hadn't lied.

Petrel's strength really was close to hers.

If not for the severe type disadvantage, Sabrina could have handled Petrel on her own.

"If you know what's good for you, surrender now," Petrel's mocking voice rang out as he finally caught up. "I might let you live."

Petrel wore a black uniform, the iconic red R of Team Rocket emblazoned proudly on his chest.

"Surrender?" Sabrina replied coldly, floating in midair. "That's my line. My backup has arrived."

"Backup?" Petrel chuckled. "You mean this kid? Team Rocket is on official business. If the brat knows what's good for him, he'll leave immediately."

Sam's face darkened.

If leaving were an option, he would have done so already.

More importantly, now that Petrel had seen him, there was no way he would be allowed to walk away unharmed.

Attacking the Saffron Gym Leader meant only one thing—Team Rocket was brewing a major conspiracy.

Gym Leaders were effectively officials of the Pokémon League. Attacking one was no different from openly declaring war on the League.

Caught between the Pokémon League and Team Rocket, Sam had no possibility of remaining neutral.

He had to choose a side.

And the choice was obvious.

No matter how powerful Team Rocket was, they were still a criminal organization forced to hide in the shadows under the League's pressure.

Even after Giovanni obtained Mewtwo and his ambitions swelled beyond control, Sam knew the truth.

Team Rocket's rampage would be short-lived.

Mewtwo would soon break free, and once that happened, Team Rocket would lose its greatest weapon.

At that point—

How could they possibly compete with the Pokémon League?

Sam's eyes hardened.

This battle… he had no intention of losing.
