Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Fear Is the Lesson

The enraged Exeggutor finally stopped holding back.

Its eyes turned bloodshot as it let out a furious roar.

"Coco—! Coco—!"

Blinding white light burst from the leaves atop its head, condensing into solid psychic waves that surged toward Gengar.

Pure rage filled the attack.

Watching Exeggutor completely lose control, Gengar's grin only grew wider.

This was exactly what it wanted.

The angrier its opponent became, the happier Gengar felt.

Rage… then fear.

Those dramatic emotional shifts were what Gengar lived for.

Now Exeggutor had reached peak rage.

Next came fear.

A cruel smile spread across Gengar's face.

Raising both hands, it casually launched a Shadow Ball.

The psychic shockwave shattered the instant it collided with the dark sphere.

The difference in power wasn't even close.

"Coco—! Coco—!"

Exeggutor hadn't grown three heads for nothing.

Seeing its full-power psychic attack destroyed so effortlessly, it finally realized that the opponent before it was far beyond its league.

"Coco… coco… coco…!"

The three heads began arguing loudly among themselves.

Fight?

Run?

Surrender?

Their voices overlapped chaotically, echoing across the battlefield.

The noise grated on Sam's nerves.

He shot Gengar a glance, clearly telling it to end this quickly.

Gengar felt a bit disappointed—it hadn't played enough yet—but since Sam had spoken, it obeyed.

"Shadow Punch."

Gengar's figure faded into nothingness.

When it reappeared, it was already right in front of Exeggutor.

Dark energy wrapped tightly around its fists, radiating pure menace.

Faced with Gengar's sudden appearance, Exeggutor's heart trembled.

In the face of absolute danger, the three heads finally reached consensus.

Surrender.

"—"

But how could Gengar allow that?

After playing with Exeggutor for so long, it was waiting for this exact moment—the instant true fear appeared.

Now that harvest time had come, surrender was not an option.

The Shadow Punch smashed into all three heads at once, forcibly knocking the unspoken plea for mercy straight back down its throat.

"Kehehehehe~!"

Gengar's laughter echoed across the field.

Fear.

Despair.

Those emotions would become its nourishment.

As Exeggutor was beaten senseless in the middle of the battlefield, Yuko finally panicked and tried to sneak away.

She hadn't expected even Exeggutor to lose so badly.

Tch! What a useless Pokémon, she cursed inwardly.

After silently hurling insults at Sam in her heart, she turned and tried to leave as quietly as possible.

Step by step.

Just a few more steps…

She lifted her right foot—

—and froze.

No matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't put it down.

"What… what's happening?! Why can't I move?!" Yuko screamed in panic.

A cold voice spoke from behind her.

"Leaving already? Our business isn't finished yet."

Sam's voice was calm—but chilling.

Yuko's heart sank straight to the bottom.

Forcing herself to suppress the fear, she shouted, "What do you want to do?! Do you know who I am?!"

Her identity.

Sam almost laughed.

The woman in front of him was still clinging to the hollow glory of the past, refusing to wake up.

Maybe her identity had once meant something—decades, even centuries ago.

But times had changed.

"What do I want to do?" Sam chuckled softly, a hint of madness seeping into his voice.

"My dear lady… what I want doesn't matter."

He tilted his head slightly.

"You should ask Gengar. You're the toy he saved for last."

"W—Waaaah!!!"

In sheer desperation, Yuko turned toward Erika.

"Erika—sister! Erika—sister, please help me! Please!"

But Erika didn't move.

She simply watched from the side.

Saving Yuko?

Frankly, Erika felt like slapping her herself.

She had worked hard these past days to build trust with Sam, finally growing closer—only for Yuko to barge in and ruin everything.

Fortunately, Yuko had made a complete fool of herself inside the Rainbow Gym, giving Erika the perfect excuse to cut ties immediately.

Otherwise, even her family would hesitate to offend a promising Trainer like Sam.

"Kehehehehe~!"

Hearing Sam's words, Gengar laughed even more gleefully.

It could already smell fear in the air.

Floating slowly in front of Yuko, Gengar extended its long tongue and gently licked her face.

"Ahhh—! No! Please—please stop! Let me go!" Yuko sobbed hysterically.

How could someone raised in luxury endure such terror?

The numb sensation on her face combined with overwhelming fear pushed her straight to the brink of collapse.

Turning away, Sam smiled lightly.

"Miss Erika, let's head back inside and continue discussing our business."

He had no interest in excessive torture.

If Yuko hadn't crossed the line so thoroughly, he wouldn't have let Gengar enjoy itself like this.

Listening to her screams held no appeal for him.

As she followed Sam, Erika hesitated and whispered, "There won't be any problems… right?"

She didn't mind Yuko being taught a lesson—but she worried Gengar might go too far.

Sam turned and gave her a bright, reassuring smile.

"Don't worry, Erika. My Gengar knows its limits."

Strangely convincing.

Under Sam's urging, the two returned inside to continue discussing Team Rocket.

From time to time, Yuko's pitiful cries echoed faintly from outside.

Overall—

Everything felt strangely harmonious.

"Then that's it for today," Sam said as he prepared to leave.

"We'll continue tomorrow."

The screams outside had stopped.

Gengar's playtime was clearly over.

"See you tomorrow, Sam," Erika replied softly.
