Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: A Trap at the Summit

Ren was momentarily stunned.

While the waiter wasn't paying attention, he quietly tugged on the corner of Erika's sleeve and whispered,

"Miss Erika… are the Rockets really this rich?"

For the first time, Ren felt like he had suffered a massive loss.

If he had known Team Rocket was this wealthy, maybe he should've joined them instead.

Erika ignored the ridiculous thought entirely. She pointed toward a staircase not far away, guarded by two security personnel.

"That should be Team Rocket's base."

"Oh?" Ren grinned. "Then let's get started."

He casually took out two Poké Balls.

"…Shouldn't we discuss a plan first?" Erika asked.

"A plan?" Ren laughed. "The plan is simple—go in recklessly."

"Come out, Scyther. Gengar."

It was time to cause chaos.

---

Erika felt a bit helpless. She hadn't expected the usually composed Ren to have such a… zero-eight-seven personality.

Still, she didn't hesitate.

"Come out, Breloom."

She didn't summon Vileplume. Compared to its slow movements, the agile Breloom was far more suitable for a fast-paced battle like this.

[Pokémon]: Breloom

[Type]: Grass / Fighting

[Strength]: High Gym Leader level

[Potential]: Elite

Ren looked at Breloom in surprise.

He hadn't expected Erika to be hiding something like this.

If his judgment was correct, this Breloom was likely the strongest Pokémon in Erika's team—and it wouldn't be long before it stepped into the Elite tier.

As expected, none of the Gym Leaders were simple.

---

The disturbance caused by summoning Pokémon was impossible to miss.

The security personnel reacted instantly, releasing their own Pokémon as they rushed forward.

"Dear guests, please remain calm," the dealer at the card table said with a practiced smile. "This disturbance will be handled shortly."

The guests weren't particularly frightened—just curious about who would dare cause trouble in the Celadon Game Corner.

"Scyther, take them out," Ren ordered calmly.

He had no time to waste on underlings. His goal was upstairs—the core members of Team Rocket.

Scyther's blade-like wings vibrated violently as it turned into a streak of green lightning.

Wherever it passed, enemies fell.

One by one, the guards were knocked down.

That was when the gamblers finally realized something was seriously wrong. Some timid women began screaming hysterically, and the entire casino erupted into chaos.

"Erika, control the situation here," Ren said quickly. "I'll go upstairs and deal with Team Rocket."

Without waiting for a reply, he dashed toward the staircase.

---

"It really is a different world," Ren muttered as he reached the top floor.

Compared to the luxurious floors below, the Rocket Hideout was stark and utilitarian.

Dozens of computers lined the room, along with various instruments Ren couldn't even identify.

But—

There was no one there.

Team Rocket had already fled.

Ren rubbed his temples, a headache forming.

The Rockets really were well-connected. For such a confidential operation to leak, there had to be insiders within the Alliance.

Now the Rockets were gone.

What was he supposed to do with this mission?

---

Just as Ren was thinking, rapid footsteps echoed through the corridor.

Tap. Tap-tap-tap.

A man wearing a Rocket Executive uniform walked in. He had purple hair, a flashy hairstyle, and an unmistakably vulgar air about him.

Ren's eyes narrowed in surprise.

He hadn't expected to meet an old acquaintance in Celadon City.

"Petrel," Ren said lightly. "Long time no see."

The man froze for a moment before grinning.

The Petrel who had once been driven away in Saffron City was standing right in front of him.

Petrel's smile widened, filled with excitement.

Perfect.

Old grudges and new ones could be settled together tonight.

Unlike the others, Petrel hadn't evacuated. He had stayed behind deliberately—to give the Alliance a "surprise."

"Ren, was it?" Petrel sneered. "You ruined my plans last time, and now you dare storm our base? Looks like you're determined to become an enemy of Team Rocket."

Looking at Petrel's abnormal excitement—like someone staring at a beautiful woman—Ren felt something was very wrong.

And immediately—

He decided to run.

---

Ren knew exactly what Petrel had.

A mid-Elite Gengar.

If Petrel recognized Ren's strength and was still this confident, then he clearly had a way to suppress Gengar.

Tyranitar hadn't awakened yet. If this turned into a direct fight, Ren's chances were grim.

A wise man avoids danger.

Ren shot Scyther a look and bolted without hesitation.

For a split second, Petrel was stunned.

"Run? Don't dream of it."

"Come out—Murkrow. Nidoking."

---

Terrifying energy surged from behind Ren.

If he hadn't sensed the danger and thrown himself to the ground, that attack would have killed him instantly.

Looking at the wall that had been blasted through, Ren's heart sank.

Even now, he forced himself to stay calm and urgently recalled Scyther to guard him.

He sprang back to his feet.

"Detective Eye."

[Pokémon]: Nidoking

[Type]: Poison / Ground

[Strength]: Elite high level

[Potential]: Champion

Ren inhaled sharply.

So Team Rocket was finally retaliating against the Alliance's recent pressure.

An Elite-high Nidoking.

And that familiar aura—

Giovanni.

This Pokémon definitely belonged to him.

What was supposed to be a low-risk mission had suddenly turned lethal.

---

Through their psychic link, Ren contacted Gengar, hiding in the shadows.

Sneak attack Petrel.

This was his only chance.

No matter how unreliable Gengar seemed normally, at critical moments, it had never let him down.

The instant it received the order, Gengar emerged from behind Petrel, its fists overflowing with dark energy.

A lethal blow descended.

Shadow Punch!
