Chapter 2- The elevator incident

Mia rode the elevator to the tenth floor, clutching her bag like a lifeline. She thought the morning collision was over, but as the doors closed, she realized she wasn't alone.

Alexander leaned against the mirrored wall, arms crossed, studying her with an unreadable expression.

"Busy first day," he asked, voice low, teasing.

She swallowed hard. "Yes…and a little overwhelming."

He stepped closer, closer than the small the elevator should allow. Heat radiated from his body, making the pulse race.

"I can help with that," he said softly, letting a strand of hair fall across his forehead.

The elevator jolted slightly, and their shoulders brushed. Mia felt a dangerous thrill, a flutter she shouldn't control.

"You shouldn't be here…not like this," he murmured leaving so near she could feel his breath.

Before she could respond, the elevator dinged and someone else entered, breaking the spell, but leaving her cheeks burning.
