Chapter 26 - Hope and the End

Lilian crossed the city on a sparkling red bicycle. As soon as she crossed the third corner after the avenue, she saw the burnt— out truck. Accelerating the tires, Lilian raced against time.

"I'm on my way, Natasha, Andrew and Liam. — he thought

As I approached the truck, I was able to walk around the flames and into the vehicle. Removing everyone and putting them on the sidewalk, that's when the truck exploded into several pieces, hitting me squarely. I flew through the air and landed near one of the fire hydrants.

It fell rolling to the floor injuring my face. I get up after a few seconds of lying down a little dizzy.

— What happened? — questioned me

I go close to Natasha and try to wake her up from her hypnotic effect. I waited until everyone could breathe the fresh air.

A few minutes passed and I waited for the effect of the mist to cease, hovering upwards I see that everyone was already returning to normal.

"Lilian, my God. Are you well? asked Natasha. — If I'm fine? And how are you? — I retort the question "I'm a little down, that's all. replied Natasha.

"We'd better get out of here.— Andrew advised.

Liam was still sleeping on the floor surrounded by gasoline. Andrew lifted him onto his shoulders and led him forward.

"Now we're together again.— — said Natasha

— Yes we are. — hugged Lilian

I didn't know that could be the last time I felt happy, I really couldn't imagine what could happen.

— Let's go nearby, there are some cars parked.

"Did you hear that?— asked Lillian.

A drone flew over among the youths, turned around and started shooting in their direction.

We all ran, the bullets hit the ground. Natasha ran forward to get the axe. It was at that moment that everything went dark and the city started to catch fire, the buildings on fire and we were in the middle of it all, smoke and dust rising and punishing the air.

I just saw her, running with her blonde hair neatly tied back in a half— braid. That's when everything went black. The moment I was about to close my eyes,

I just saw her, whispering my name.

— Natalie...

An arrow from the sky pierced her abdomen, causing her to fall to her knees.

Lilian...

I wake up on a hospital gurney, my eyes were so heavy that I almost couldn't open them, I was staring at the ceiling with the LED lights, my neck was in a cast, my leg was broken, I hear footsteps coming towards me, I close my eyes quickly and I wait a few seconds. I feel someone sit on the bed next to me.

I return to open my eyes, it was Andrew with his face slightly bruised and surrounded by gunpowder, his lower lip was cut as well as his forehead. I look at myself affectionately and he gives me a slight smirk, taking his hands gently to smooth the lock of hair in my face.

"Hi, warrior. Andrew said. — Hey. — I answer

All good? Andrew asked.

— Yes, where is Lilian. I want to see her. — I answer "Natasha...— Andrew failed.

"Andrew, tell me what's going on, now!— — shout "I'm sorry...— Andrew cried.

"Don't you dare tell me that..."

Natasha, you need to be strong right now... — Andrew began"Fuck, don't tell me to be strong, Andrew. I want the truth. — I say "Lilian, she's dead.— Andrew said.

I lie motionless, lying there, untouched as my red eyes shed tears.

She was dead.
