Chapter 1 - "Ordinary Day"

My name is Kirito Asuyama, I'm 16 and attend Kitakasuge High.

In my opinion school isn't anything special.

I wake up, brush my teeth, get into my uniform, have breakfast and run to the train hoping I'm not late.

And being at school isn't much different, I just sleep in class and hope the bell rings, it's boring as hell.

But today was different, I met up with my friends at the school gate and we were just having one of our ordinary conversations.

"Hey Kirito, have you heard the news?" Osuke asks.

"Hmm, news on what?" I replied.

"Apparently there's this group of boys in our school that are taking inappropriate pics of the girls and selling them without their consent." Osuke declares.

"Now where's this coming from Osuke? You know people like to spread rumors, you should try to be less gullible!" replies Jin.

This is clearly some made up rumor, we all know Osuke is kinda gullible.

"Yeah don't believe everything you hear Osuke" I agreed.

Although if I'm being honest, it made me feel a bit uneasy.

Suddenly a loud ring hit my eardrums.

Seems like it's the bell, man I really don't wanna go to class!

"Yooo! Kirito!" Osuke screams from across the hall.

"This guy can't be serious." I thought.

"What!" I reluctantly decide to scream back.

"Remember what I said, if you see anyone suspicious, let me know!" Osuke screams back.

I just turn my head away and continue walking to class.

That guy is such a bother, he always had a knack for believing in any rumor, no matter how ridiculous it sounded.

Like that one time he told us the government was filled with lizard people.

But this rumor is still more believable than anything he's said before, maybe it's true this time.

I'll be on the lookout just in case.

I walked into class and sat down in my seat, as usual, when suddenly someone interrupted me.

"Umm, e-excuse me." the young girl asked in a soft, timid voice.

I looked up at her, she was surprisingly beautiful, from her long, flowing, black hair to the gentle sparkle in her hazelnut eyes.

"Yes, what's the matter?" I replied, I wonder what someone would want from me, especially someone like her?

"I was w-wondering if I c-could sit next to you for this lesson?" she surprisingly stated.

I stared at her for a few seconds, thinking she was joking, but she looked completely serious.

SO SOMEONE WANTS TO SIT NEXT TO ME!? AND IT'S A GIRL NONETHELESS! Something fishy is going on here, I should ask her why.

"Sure you can but, may I ask why?" I questioned.

"I-im a bit embarrassed to admit, but I forgot my textbook, s-so I'll be out of your hair by tomorrow! I promise!"

Well thinking about it I'm the only person in the class that doesn't sit next to anyone, making me the only person she could sit next to.

That's probably why she came to me, oh well it doesn't bother me anyway, I'll just give her my textbook and doze off till the day is over.

That's less stuff for me to worry about.

"Oh don't worry, it's a common mistake so don't be embarrassed." I said with a light smile on my face.

A bit out of character for me though.

"T-thank you, uuhhh-?" she suddenly hit a blank.

"My name is Kirito, Kirito Asuyama." I said realizing she still didn't know my name.

"O-oh well thank you Kirito! My name is Sora, Sora Ahida! " she said with a bright and passionate smile.

Suddenly the class door slowly creaked open, and the classes once loud chatter suddenly dimmed to quietness as the teacher walked in.

Sora quickly but subtly pulled her desk closer to mine, so we could both see the textbook, but I don't think she knows I'm not interested in learning anything right now.

Well I'll just tell her she can just take the textbook, but as I was about to open my mouth to tell her.

"Kirito, why don't you come up and answer the question!" the teacher said in a oddly calm but strict voice.

I looked at the board to witness what seemed to just be scribbles and numbers, I just blurted out an answer, and got it horribly wrong.

I quickly sat back down in my seat.

After that, I didn't feel like mustering up any words or even thoughts anymore.

Suddenly I felt a slight brush against my arm, I turned to my side to see only Sora, she had been sitting closer to me than I realised, close enough for our arms to collide at the slightest movement.

At the realization I suddenly turned a bright red, comparable to a fresh tomato. On the contrary Sora seemed to be deep in thought, not noticing the little distance between us.

She suddenly but clumsily dropped her pen, I quickly picked it up for her, but by now seems to be the time she also realised how close we were to each other.

She turned a bright red and quickly hid her face in her arms.

After a bit she looked up to me.

"I-im truly sorry! I d-didn't realise!" she exclaimed.

I tried my best to avoid eye contact and just nodded in response.

We quickly turned our heads away from each other and sat in silence for a while, but time seemed to be frozen, I couldn't sleep like I usually did, so I was forced to sit still and think about what had happened.

After what felt like an eternity, the bell finally rang and I hurrily ran out the door.

I wanted to forget what happened as soon as possible.

I ran towards Osuke and Jin who had been standing by their lockers talking.

"Yo Kirito! What's got you in such a hurry?" Osuke asks.

"And why are you all red, did someone beat you up?" Jin jokingly asks.

Damn, I ran to my friends hoping they would help me forget but whatever, I'm here now and if I run away it'll make my situation more obvious.
