Chapter 3 - I'm Not Going

Well that's about it really. Not really, laugh my everloving ass off. I was lying. After that the mental break down ensued leaving Allen a sobbing ball on the floor but after which about two hours he found himself back in his previous 16 year old male body and was able to get it together, uh ah, at least a little bit. Well I won't bore you with the details but after not eating spaghetti that night his mother called him in sick for school the day after.

He was relieved and it was only under her mercy that his loving but somewhat nosyrilla mother hadn't come up to his room when he had sent her a message saying he had an upset stomach and was going to bed early. He had bought time to think.

His BROTHER! That's right. Who else could he talk to about this weird thing? Certainly not his mother... definitely not his best friend... but....

The fact was, in a situation like this even his brother, he didn't want him to know. He had changed into a girl after all. That mental trauma was still very fresh and he didn't want to talk about it. EVER.

"So I just won't talk about it." He decided this very quickly without too much thought. "I'll just say the bear minimum.... or NOT!"

Allen threw on some clothes not bothering to think about sleep or consequences. Life was too short for that after all. With a short glance to his door he walked over, turning the latch to lock it in place. They lived in an older house because his parents liked the authentices they claimed.

Letting go of a deep sigh he turned around facing the window to his bedroom. 'Now I just gotta climb out. How hard can it be? I'm only on the second floor... at least I'm not in the attic.' He thought. Gotta stay optimistic after all.

Truthfully, climbing out was not so hard but he was very hesitant due to nerves. Should he really go? Maybe just pretend it never happened. Maybe it really was a prank? Culprit? Not important. Maybe it won't happen again. Sweat laced his brow at that thought simply because he knew it was a sweet delusion.

"Dammit." He cursed under his breath.

He ran through the sinario of his next move. Climb out the window. Walk to the main city. Ask the good people of the enforcer station to give him a ride. Then. Then. He was there looking at the building in his minds eye. The Hero's Corp. Except it was upside down. How strange.

"Oh wait no, I'm upside-down." The voice was soft but distinguished. Pretty just like earlier.

There outside the building where all sorts of hero's and regular people. Important and unimportant alike mingle outside the building, and there, in the middle was a floating girl. She resembled a ghost, a small floating glowing white figure. She was upside-down but looked right-side up. Without shoes or any possessions in her hands the girl looked truly.... odd, even for this times standards!

'I can't do this!!! Oh, I'm gonna throw up.' He cried internally. Allen only wanted to go back to his room. To his bed and TV and video games. The internet! Sweet comfort. Let's just pretend this never happened.

The weird floating girl shut her eyes tight and when she reopened them she was no longer outside that place but back home looking at her bed. The most comfortable cozy place in the whole wide world but she wasn't in it. Instead she was floating two-three feet above it. She frowned.

"Gross." Her lips moved and she glared hatefully at her spot. 'That's my spot....' Thinking this she couldn't help but be a little upset.

But no matter how hard she tried she could not find a way to float down to "her spot." Instead those thin arms stretched towards the blankets just bearly hooking a finger she was able to grab hold and heave it up and over. Twisting in air unintentionally she wound herself into a burrito, crying herself to sleep.

Woken only by a light knocking did Allen open his eyes. They were red and swollen. He glared hatefully at the door. The person on the other side not letting him wallow in teenaged angst and self pity.

'Yo, Al. You okay in their? Mom said you weren't feeling well, do you need a booster?" The voice could only be my big brother's.

"No!" Without thinking I answered then quickly shut the word hole realizing my mistake. Only it wasn't a mistake because the voice coming out was, thank the Heavens and their toothbrushes, normal!

Getting up I stomped over and unlocked the door, opening it ever so slowly just one eyeball peaking out into the scary judgmental future that could await himself.

His brother raised an eyebrow at this odd behavior. The kid had always been weird but this was over the top. Maybe a fever had melted his brain. Mom had suggested I bring a booster by this morning, despite our advances in health-care and superior technology things like the common cold still struck. As we evolve so do they unfortunately. But luckily we have boosters! Somthing that could fight against almost any illness big or small! Only problem was little bro hated needles.

"Come in." The voice was dark and full of depression. The door opened slowly only allowing the smallest amount of room nessicary for his entry.

Aux shimmied through the opening only to see a burrito shut the door tightly with a soft click behind him. What. Was. Up?

Allen looked at his brother and had made his mind. "I Awakened last night."

Silence.....

A man and burrito gazed at one another lovingly.

Silence.....

Allen couldn't bring himself to break the awkward silence and stared with a new determination at his brother. Aux's mouth then opened as if to speak before promptly closing again.

Silence....

"Hum, well lets go get registered." His brother finally found the words to speak. He didn't ask what this newfound awakening had entailed he didn't want to pry, yet. This was an important moment for everyone and he himself had been a late bloomer, oh nostalgia. Only this late was just embarrassing. Like being a virgin at 30.

Allen nodded, sullen. The fact was everyone had to register when they Awakened no matter what the power was and it was put on file as public record. Well I say public but infact the 'man' in charge tended to gloss over things when needed and these public records were not actually so public.

"Don't tell dad and mom...."

A pause ensued. "Also, I'm not going." The covers flooffed in the air with a flourish as a new, tighter burrito appeared, leaving no more eyeballs visible only a small tuff of blond hair.

Aux's face scrunched into a confused expression then, "Why not?"

He really couldn't understand why his brother wouldn't want to go get registered. Hasn't he been depressed for years when he thought he was going to be a minority??? Unless...

"Don't tell me your powers are that weak?" His jaw dropped it was very normal for people to get useless things in an awakening like stretchy fingers or hair that grows on command. Aux was also a late bloomer but his awaking was a blessing but if it was something lame and 7 years late he probably wouldn't want to register either. That said not registering was illegal and this being his brother could really affect his public image too!

Aux grabbed the burrito, slugging it over his shoulder with an exaggerated humrph. "Lil bro don't be embarrassed im here. Let's do it together, yeah?" He seemed very determined and righteous in his doing.

Allen couldn't see outside his shell but felt that his brother was looking very smug and pleased with himself right about now. He struggled but had wrapped himself in his own grave, damn.
