Chapter 27 - CP:27 Because Of Stones Tantrums??!

The next few days passed in a haze of overprotectiveness, morning sickness, and the slow, relentless realization that Alex's life had become a full-time production of "How Many Ways Can Two Apex Predators Turn Nesting Into An Olympic Sport?"

Naga had taken to sleeping curled entirely around the nest like a living fortress wall—twenty feet of iridescent muscle that made even rolling over feel like negotiating with a python.

Leo, meanwhile, had discovered the ancient art of "lion loafing": sprawling out in a perfect circle of white fur and muscle directly in Alex's path whenever he tried to stand up, golden eyes blinking innocently as if to say "What? I'm just resting. You should rest too."

Alex had threatened, bargained, and once—desperately—attempted to bribe them with kisses.

None of it worked.

He was currently lying on his back in the nest, staring at the cave ceiling, one hand resting on the still-flat plane of his stomach where six tiny serpent babies were apparently plotting world domination from the inside.

"I'm going insane," he announced to no one in particular.

Naga's head appeared above him, upside-down, hair hanging like dark silk curtains.

"You are glowing," he said with reverent seriousness. "Carrying life suits you."

"I'm glowing because I'm sweating through my third shirt of the day, even the system mall is tired of me lending its clothes, now it doesn't even give me discount and I'm pretty sure my hormones are trying to assassinate me."

Leo, lounging nearby with his chin on his paws, rumbled a laugh. "You smell like happiness."

"I smell like nausea and despair, thank you very much."

[Ding! New Main Quest Objective Unlocked!]

The floating cat appeared without warning, tail swishing like it was personally responsible for every bad decision in Alex's life.

Alex groaned. "If this is another surprise pregnancy update, I'm uninstalling you."

[ Better! Or worse? Depends on your perspective. The Black Crystal (Serpent) and Golden Stone (Lion) are resonating. They want their siblings. Specifically, they want the Silver Fang of the Wolf Tribe. The resonance is getting louder every day. If you don't retrieve it soon, the two stones you already have will start destabilizing. ]

[Side effects include: random power surges, uncontrollable glowing, possible spontaneous portal rifts, and—oh yeah—your current pregnancy might get... accelerated.]

Alex sat bolt upright so fast he almost headbutted Naga's chin.

"Accelerated?!"

[System: Yeah. Like, "surprise septuplets or octuplets instead of sextuplets" accelerated. Or "hello, premature labor in week six" accelerated. The stones are impatient. ]

[They're basically cosmic toddlers throwing a tantrum because the toy box is incomplete.]

" So does that mean I can finally go out?? "

Alex said cheerfully, completely ignoring the fact that system just said his babies might increase or his pregnancy might escalate.

" What?!" Naga's coils tightened instinctively around the nest perimeter. His voice dropped to something dangerously quiet.

"You are not going anywhere in your condition."

" But the system said we need to reunite the sacred stones of the Wolf tribe or they might act up. " Alex shrugged his shoulder as if to say ' we have no choice here.'

[ Why twist your word, just say you just wants to get the hell outta here.]

" Shhh. "

Leo's ears flattened. "The Wolf Tribe is... not welcoming to outsiders. Especially not pregnant outsiders. The wolves are—" He hesitated. "—intense. Territorial. And they hate visitors."

Alex stared at both of them.

"But the system said, if I don't go get the wolf stone soon, my pregnancy might fast-forward to the 'push six babies out in the middle of the jungle' stage... "

" What??! No we can't have that. Premature births are dangerous for females. And it's even more dangerous for a male like you. " Naga's furrowed his brows, conflicted by the feeling of protection and the wellbeing of his mate.

Going outside meant his mate might be in danger but staying in the cave also meant his mate might be in danger.

But at the end, the choice was clear.

His hand settled gently on the back of Alex's neck—cool, steady, grounding.

"You will not go alone," he said. "We will go together. All of us."

Leo's tail lashed once. "The wolves will smell the pregnancy from miles away. They'll know you're vulnerable. They'll know you're carrying multiples. And for tribes the more fertile the female the more... irresistible to them."

"But I'm not female," Alex muttered.

"Doesn't matter. Once they know you can give birth, they will come after you regardless of who you are. " Leo said, his voice firm and serious.

" That sounds scary. " Alex dropped his hands and looked between his two mates—really looked.

Naga's eyes were burning with that terrifying mix of devotion and murder. Leo's were conflicted, protective, already calculating routes and escape plans and probably seventeen different ways to body-block an entire wolf pack.

Alex exhaled through his nose, long and slow, like he was trying to breathe out every ounce of panic before it could settle in his bones.

"Okay," he said finally. "Okay. Let's say we do this. We go to Wolf territory. We get the Silver Fang. We prevent magical stone toddler tantrums and me turning into an premature pregnant disaster in week six."

He held up one finger.

"But we do it my way."

Naga's coils twitched—once, sharply—like a snake tasting bad air.

Leo's ears rotated forward, attentive.

Alex pointed at Naga first.

"No charging in, no challenging the Wolves to single combat on sight, no threatening to eat anyone who looks at me funny. We scout. We observe. We figure out what the wolves actually value, what they want, what makes them open to negotiation."

He turned to Leo.

"And no brooding silently while secretly planning 'fight or die' in case things go sideways. If we're doing this as a team, we talk about the plans. Out loud. Before anyone grows a death wish."

Both mates looked mildly offended.

"I do not brood," Leo muttered.

"You literally have Resting Brood Face as your default expression," Alex shot back.

Naga hissed softly—half amusement, half wounded pride.

Alex ignored both of them and kept going.

"Three rules. Non-negotiable."

He held up three fingers.

"One: My body, my pregnancy, my decisions. If I say we abort, we abort. If I say I need to sit down, we sit down. If I say 'that wolf is looking at me like I'm dinner,' we run."

Two fingers.

"Two: No starting wars unless it's literally the only way to survive. I'm not unifying the tribes by leaving a trail of dead Alphas behind us."

One finger left.

"Three…" He hesitated. Swallowed. "If—if—any wolf wants to… negotiate… for me, we hear them out. Politely. No immediate maiming."

The silence that followed was so thick it could've been cut with a claw.

Naga's pupils narrowed to slits.

Leo's tail stopped moving entirely.

Then, very quietly, Naga spoke.

"You would consider accepting another mate?"

Alex met his gaze without flinching.

"I'm saying I would consider hearing someone out before you or Leo turn them into modern art. That's different."

Leo's ears went flat against his skull.

"You would let them court you?"

"I would let them talk," Alex corrected, voice firm. "Because according to the system, that's one of only two ways to get the stone without bloodshed. And I'm not about to let either of you die over a rock just because I'm too stubborn to have a conversation."

He placed both hands protectively over his stomach.

"These six are counting on us to stay alive. All three of us. If that means swallowing my pride and having a civilized discussion with Wolf McStareyFace, then that's what we do."

Naga stared at him for a long moment.

Then—slowly—his coils loosened. Not in defeat. In something closer to… surrender.

"You are braver than any serpent I have ever known," he said quietly. "And more foolish."

Alex gave a crooked smile.

"Same thing, really."

[System: Quest Updated: "The Reluctant Road to Wolf Territory"] [Primary Objective: Retrieve the Silver Fang without triggering premature labor, getting kidnapped, or accidentally starting a pack war] [Secondary Objective: Don't let your scent turn the entire Wolf Tribe into a dating sim] [Estimated Difficulty: ★★★★★]

[Good luck, Host. You're gonna need a lot more than luck.]
