"Caw, caw, caw!"
The cawing overhead was followed by the sharp sound of something slicing through the air. The foolish crow slammed straight into a branch of the very tree Varkas was hiding in. The racket was so loud that even Varkas was startled.
In the darkness, a pair of amber eyes snapped open, a chilling, icy glint flickering within. Varkas stretched and leapt up swiftly—might as well add something extra to tonight's dinner.
With that thought, he sprang onto the higher branches and immediately spotted a jet-black crow with one wing caught among the dense foliage. The bird's eyes made Varkas deeply uncomfortable—and the color of its feathers irritated him even more.
Why was it so glossy black?! So black it was just like Louis's hair!
Truly irritating, incredibly irritating!
"Mewww!"
Varkas let out a loud cry and leapt straight at it, claws unsheathed from their soft pads, slicing through the night and leaving behind a cold gleam as they shot toward the crow!
