The Mystery of the Red Cap primary and high school: Chapter 1
Kaito Kobayashi was an ordinary boy, just living his boring life. The fresh morning sunlight was filtering through the window. Kaito quickly put on his school shoes and ran toward the door.
"I'm leaving!" he shouted at the top of his voice to say goodbye to his family.
As soon as he stepped out of the house, he checked his wristwatch. "Damn it! I'm late again!" He started running down the road at full speed. His bag was bouncing on his back.
Just then, at the corner of the street, a girl suddenly stepped out from an old house. Kaito couldn't control his speed.
Thud! A loud collision happened between the two. Kaito managed to steady himself, but the girl fell straight to the ground. Her red cap slipped off her head and fell a distance away. Kaito had heard that a new family had recently moved into that house, but he never imagined the girl would be like this.
As Kaito reached out his hand to help her up, his eyes fell on the girl's head. Two small black horns were sticking out from amidst her beautiful pink hair.
Kaito's heart skipped a beat for a moment. Wait... are those horns? he thought to himself. But the fear of the school bell was overpowering his mind. In his panic, he just said, "Ah! Sorry... I'm running very late!" and he bolted from there. He hadn't even looked at the girl's face properly.
When he reached near his class, he was panting heavily. He opened the classroom door— "Good morning, Sensei!" Yoshina Shinozaki, his teacher, glared at him over her glasses and said, "Kaito! You are late again."
"Forgive me Sensei, there was a small accident on the way," Kaito said, scratching his neck, and went to sit in his favorite seat by the window. He was looking outside, but his mind was still spinning with thoughts of that red cap and those strange horns.
Just then, there was a soft knock on the classroom door.
A girl opened the door and came inside. She was out of breath, as if she too had come running. "Pardon... Please excuse me! I am late!"
Sensei said with a smile, "It's okay, it's your first day today. Class, pay attention, this is your new classmate—Onari Shizumi."
Kaito looks at the girl and says to himself that this is the same girl I bumped into this morning! Then Sensei says, "Come on, Onari dear, go and sit in that empty seat you see over there."
