Chapter 23 - Launching into the Universe...

They then began a thorough inspection of their new world. While it contained mountains, rivers, and forests, they discovered a profound silence—there were no other living creatures. So, they set to work.

They caught countless fish from Earth's oceans and rivers to stock their new lakes and seas. They gathered herds of harmless animals to populate the woodlands.

Thus, their private sanctuary was transformed from a beautiful but sterile paradise into a true, breathing microcosm.

Next came the move. They purchased mountains of supplies—furniture, clothing, tools, and non-perishable food—and transported everything into the Ring of Worlds.

Bulma, of course, footed the bill. Considering Son Goku had saved her life more times than she could count, she considered it a minor investment.

After this, they visited the sacred Karin Tower. There, Goku requested and received seeds and cultivation instructions for the miraculous Senzu Beans.

These were carefully planted and tended by the women within the Ring, ensuring a future, self-sustaining supply of the life-restoring beans.

With all preparations complete, three days had passed. However, one experiment proved disappointing.

Hoping to bypass the Dragon Balls' year-long cooldown, Goku had placed the petrified orbs inside the ring's Hyperbolic Time Chamber. When he retrieved them a day later, they remained inert stone.

The energy required to power a wish, it seemed, was drawn from the positive life-force of the primary universe itself.

That energy required a full solar cycle to replenish. No amount of time-dilation could accelerate the process.

With their new home established, Saeko and the others formally moved in. Goku then began teaching them the fundamentals of sensing and manipulating ki, as well as the basics of Bukūjutsu, the art of flight.

Saeko, Yuriko, Rika Minami, Rei, and Kiriko proved to be adept and dedicated students. Saya and Kurumi, however, found the physical and mental discipline too grueling and lost interest quickly. Shizuka gave up after a few amusing but fruitless minutes.

Alice joined in the 'fun' for a couple of days before her childlike attention span drifted elsewhere.

Once his students were on their way, Son Goku began his own training in earnest—training of a far more brutal nature.

He started within the Hyperbolic Time Chamber under ten times Earth's gravity. His body screamed in protest, but he pushed through. The moment he adapted, he doubled it to twenty times.

Each time he reached his absolute physical limit, a single Senzu Bean would restore him completely, and his power would surge forward. In just three days of Chamber-time, he had acclimated to a crushing one hundred times gravity—a feat that had taken the original Goku six.

It was a stark testament to the terrifying potential housed within his new body.

Yet, Goku knew it wasn't enough. To safely navigate the wider universe, he needed the transformative power of a Super Saiyan. It was the key that would unlock his next plateau.

His frustration grew as Chamber-time stretched into months. Despite pushing his body to extremes he hadn't imagined, the golden-haired transformation remained elusive.

Worse, he could feel his progress stalling, his potential hitting a seemingly immovable ceiling. He understood the theory—a severe emotional shock, a surge of pure, righteous rage—but try as he might, he couldn't conjure the necessary catalyst within the sterile, controlled environment of the Chamber.

He ended his seclusion. If the spark wouldn't come in isolation, he would have to seek it among the stars, in battle with true galactic powers.

A spaceship was the first requirement. Goku spent several days locating the small, spherical pod that had carried him to Earth as an infant and delivered it to Dr. Briefs, Bulma's father, with a request for extensive modifications.

During the three-month refit, Goku enjoyed a rare period of domestic calm and romantic pursuit. His attentions eventually turned to Bulma and Kiriko. His methods were… direct, to say the least. Yet, in a twist that spoke volumes of his peculiar charisma, neither woman held lasting resentment. In fact, they found themselves drawn deeper into his orbit.

This development also prompted Bulma to officially drop out of school. With the other women preparing for a grand cosmic adventure, staying behind was unthinkable. Besides, formal education had long been optional for a genius who could out-think her professors in her sleep.

Three months later, the modified ship was complete. The women stared at the massive, polished sphere now resting on the Capsule Corp launch pad.

"Is… is that really a spaceship?" Saya asked, her voice tinged with awe. In her world, this was the stuff of distant dreams.

"It looks like a giant ball!" Shizuka observed, her eyes sparkling with undisguised delight.

"Less gawking, more packing!" Kiriko called out, hefting a large crate of snacks toward the ship's ramp. "We're leaving soon!"

The others jumped into action, forming a chain to load the final supplies—clothing, personal items, and enough comforts of home to last an indefinite journey.

Finally, with the cargo bay sealed, they gathered for farewells.

"Well, Dad… Mom… we're off," Bulma said, a mix of excitement and nervousness in her voice.

Dr. Briefs and his wife smiled warmly at the assembled group. "Goku," Mrs. Briefs said, her tone gentle but firm. "I'm entrusting Bulma to you. You must protect her. Protect all of them."

"You don't even have to ask," Goku replied, his confidence absolute. They were his. Their safety was his foremost priority.

"Ah, to be young again," Dr. Briefs sighed wistfully. "I'd give anything to see the universe with my own eyes."

With final waves and well-wishes, the group boarded the ship. The hatch sealed with a hydraulic hiss.

"Everyone, secure your harnesses!" Bulma announced from the pilot's chair, her fingers dancing over the newly designed console. "Initiation sequence… now!"

A deep hum resonated through the craft, building into a powerful roar.

"Okay! Here we go!" Bulma cried.

Amidst a chorus of excited cheers from the women, the spherical ship lifted gracefully from the ground. It hovered for a moment, then, with a sudden, silent burst of acceleration, it became a streak of light rocketing through the atmosphere, leaving the blue marble of Earth behind as it pierced the black veil of space.
