Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Gift of Nine-Tails' Chakra and a Renewed Promise

Chapter 26: The Gift of Nine-Tails' Chakra and a Renewed Promise

Even in its reluctant, resentful compliance, the Kyuubi felt a creeping sense of wrongness. This human whelp was absorbing its chakra at a terrifying, sustained rate. This wasn't a trickle; it was a river. And he wasn't just taking the raw power—he was absorbing the seething hatred woven into every strand of its energy. That malice should have been corrosive, mind-breaking. But the kid just stood there, a serene, almost blissful smile on his face, as if being bathed in soothing sunlight.

What the hell is this? The fox's single eye bulged. Why isn't he going mad? Why isn't his chakra system tearing itself apart?

Confused and unnerved, it kept pumping more chakra into the connection, driven by a mix of spite and morbid curiosity.

Ten minutes later.

"This little monster… his personality is utterly deranged," the Kyuubi grumbled to itself, its body visibly diminished, its fur looking less vibrant. From the moment they'd met in this space, Naruto's attitude had been a whirlwind—blindingly friendly one moment, a crushing tempest of violence the next. It was unpredictable, terrifying. The fox, a creature of ancient, straightforward rage, couldn't comprehend such volatility.

Fear, cold and pragmatic, finally won out. Better to give him what he wants, it reasoned, than risk another one of those… sessions. It consciously increased the flow of chakra again, a peace offering born of pure self-preservation.

Naruto, sensing the shift in the beast's intent—the fear overriding the pride—decided the harvest was sufficient. The torrent of energy within him was a roaring sea, potent and wild, yet held in perfect check by his formidable will and physiology.

"Alright, that's enough," he said, his voice warm, cutting off the flow. The golden chakra cloak that had begun to shimmer around him solidified. "From now on, we're friends. You live in my body, and I'll protect you."

The Kyuubi's jaw went slack. "GRK—!!!"

It was too flabbergasted to even roar. Friends? Protect ME? I live in YOUR body? The sheer, breathtaking audacity of the statements, delivered with such earnest warmth, short-circuited its thought processes. Internally, it was screaming. A ghost wants to be your friend! And who's protecting who here, you pint-sized tyrant!

But beneath the outrage, buried under millennia of bitterness, a tiny, almost imperceptible ember glowed. Friends… The word had been offered more than once. Was there… a sliver of truth to it? The confusion was maddening.

On the sidelines, Kushina was practically vibrating with joy, ready to leap into the air. The nightmare scenario she'd dreaded—her son being overwhelmed—hadn't just been avoided; it had been inverted into a stunning victory. Yatta!

Minato watched, a complex stew of relief and lingering dread swirling within him. Seeing the Kyuubi subdued by his son was a relief beyond measure. But it did nothing to erase the dark picture Naruto had painted of his life. The coming revelation, the "experience" Naruto promised to share, loomed over his paternal pride like a storm cloud.

Naruto turned his focus inward. The Nine-Tails' chakra within him was a dense, viscous ocean of power, thrumming with latent fury and incredible potential. He willed it to the surface.

A thick, radiant cloak of golden chakra erupted from his body. It was like a miniature sun igniting in the gloom of the sewer. Warm, healing energy pulsed outward, washing over the scarred and churned landscape of the seal space. Cracks in the stone smoothed over; the disturbed yellow water grew calm and clear. It was a power of creation, not just destruction.

Naruto's appearance transformed. His spiky blond hair took on a golden sheen. The collar of his black hoodie now bore four swirling tomoe patterns. On his back, a stylized, vortex-like emblem glowed. Dozens of shimmering, golden energy tails fanned out from the waist of his shorts. Coupled with his serene, handsome young face, he looked less like a vessel of a demon and more like a youthful solar deity—a warm, radiant sun.

Kushina could contain herself no longer. With a happy cry, she rushed forward, dropped to her knees, and wrapped Naruto in a tight, fierce embrace. "Naruto…" she breathed, her voice thick with emotion.

Naruto returned the hug, sinking into the unfamiliar yet profoundly right feeling. This… this is what it's supposed to be like.

"You were amazing," Kushina whispered into his golden hair, her pride palpable.

Naruto smiled against her shoulder. "Mom is really beautiful. This… is really great."

Kushina pulled back, her violet eyes sparkling. "Thank you, sweetie. You have your father's hair, but this handsome face is all me~" She booped his nose playfully.

Naruto chuckled. "I'm the most handsome in the whole Academy, you know. Thanks for the genes… Ka-chan."

They stayed like that for a long moment, Kushina gently carding her fingers through his radiant hair, her expression one of pure, unadulterated love. But Naruto, hyper-sensitive in his new mode, felt the subtle shift. A shadow passed over her joy, a deep, aching sadness seeping through.

His smile faded. "What… what's wrong?"

Kushina's eyes, already glistening, spilled over. "Naruto… you have to be strong. You have to live a good life, all on your own now. I made you carry such a heavy burden… I can't stay with you anymore… I can't give you any more love… I'm so sorry…" Her voice broke as her form began to flicker, growing translucent. Yet, her gaze never wavered from his face, drinking him in as if to memorize every detail.

The battle and the sustained manifestation had drained the chakra preserving her consciousness. Minato's form was even fainter, a wispy silhouette. He had given most of his allocated energy to Kushina so she could have these precious moments.

"Naruto," Minato's voice was a faint echo, full of regret. "I'm sorry… I may not get to see what you wanted to show me. I'm… so sorry." He watched the poignant scene between mother and son, his own heart breaking with the desire to stay, to be a father.

Seeing their sorrow, Naruto's own composure cracked. The memories of his lonely childhood—their son's lonely childhood—rose up, not with anger now, but with a poignant clarity.

"No!" Naruto said, his voice firm, cutting through the grief. He gently extricated himself from Kushina's fading embrace. "Mom, you don't need to apologize. Yes, being a Jinchuriki… it was hard. Really hard."

Kushina froze, her tear-filled eyes wide.

Naruto took a deep breath, forcing a tone of casual acceptance. "But I don't resent you for it. Honestly… I didn't even know what a mother's or father's love felt like. You've been gone since before I can remember. It was just… a vague, empty feeling. But now I understand. This feeling…" He looked at her, then at Minato. "...it's really, really good."

He stepped towards his fading father. "And Dad… I have a way to keep you here."

Before Minato could process the words, Naruto reached out and placed his small, chakra-glowing hand on Minato's thigh—the highest point he could comfortably reach. A concentrated stream of the vibrant, golden Nine-Tails chakra flowed from Naruto into Minato's spectral form.

In an instant, Minato's flickering, translucent body solidified. Color and substance rushed back into him. Then, a shimmering, red chakra cloak—a Tailed Beast Mode of his own—flared to life around him. The chakra density was immense, even greater than when Kushina had first appeared.

Naruto didn't pause. He turned and repeated the process with Kushina, transferring a generous portion of the Nine-Tails' energy into her. Her form stabilized, glowing with renewed vitality and power.

"This…" Minato stared at his own hands, flexing his fingers, feeling the potent, foreign-yet-familiar energy coursing through his ghostly veins. He was stunned. Using the Bijuu's chakra as a battery for spiritual remnants? It was ingenious, unprecedented. He was momentarily distracted, his tactical mind racing to name this novel technique, before the emotional weight of the moment pulled him back.

The immediate crisis averted, Naruto let out a soft sigh of relief. The gentle sound of dripping water was the only noise in the now-peaceful seal space.

Then, he turned his head. His golden eyes, calm and assessing, settled on the significantly smaller, weary-looking Kyuubi, who was watching the whole affair with a mixture of exhaustion and deep suspicion.

The massive fox flinched under his gaze. "You… I already gave you the chakra! What more do you want now, you little monster?!" it demanded, its voice lacking its earlier thunder, edged with a defensive wariness.
